✅    Canada won the Copa America Quarterfinals defeating Venezuela on Friday 5 July 2024 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Debutant Canada faced Venezuela in its first-ever Copa America quarterfinal and they won after penalty shootouts. Canada qualified for the Semifinals and will play against Argentina. Venezuela and Canada have met just twice before their quarterfinal match in the Copa America: In 2007, an International Friendly match with a 2-2 draw. They played out a 1-1 draw in another friendly match three years later.

Netherlands won the UEFA EURO 2024 Round of 16 on Tuesday 2 July 2024 at the Allianz Stadium in Munich, Germany. The Netherlands reached its first European Championship quarterfinal in 16 years.  Great performance from the Netherlands who went through thanks to Cody Gakpo’s goal and Donyell Malen’s brace.   After taking the lead in the first half, they  consolidated the result by continuing to make plays and dangerous moves forward, both from the right wing, Dumfries above all.

Romania has won only once in 14 past meetings against the Netherlands, losing 10. Romania only success was a Euro 2008 qualifier, won 1-0 in Constanta.

Stats before the game: This will be only the second ever meeting in a major tournament (World Cup/EURO) between Romania and the Netherlands, after the Dutch won 2-0 in the group stage of EURO 2008. Romania have won just one of 14 matches against the Netherlands in all competitions (D3, L10), losing their last four after winning 1-0 in European Championship qualifying in October 2007. Romania also won scored only three goals in these 14 matches, conceding 29. Romania reached the knockout stage of a major tournament (World Cup/EURO) for the first time since EURO 2000, when it was eliminated by Italy in the quarter-finals; only once did the Romanian national team make it past a knockout round in major competitions, beating Argentina 3-2 in the round of 16 of the 1994 World Cup. The Netherlands have lost their last three matches played in the knockout phase of the European Championship, against Portugal (1-2 in the 2004 semi-final), Russia (1-3 in the 2008 quarter-final) and the Czech Republic (0-2 in the 2020 round of 16); the Dutch could become the second team to lose four knockout games in a row in the history of the tournament, after Yugoslavia between 1968 and 2000. This will be Romania’s 20th match at the European Championships, making it the 16th team to reach this milestone; they have won just two of their previous 19 games (D6, L12) and even if they win the next one, it would already be a new low for wins for a team in their first 20 games in the competition – previously belonging to Switzerland, who won four of their first 20 races played.

✅    Venezuela won the Copa America Group Stage Group A Matchday 3 game crushing Jamaica on Sunday 30 June 2024 at the Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas.  This is a great victory for Venezuela advancing to the Quarterfinals as Group Leaders with 9 points while Jamaica is eliminated without points.  In the second place qualifying to the Quarterfinals is Ecuador ending with a goalless draw against Mexico.

Venezuela coach Fernando Batista was absent in this game after being suspended by CONMEBOL. Batista got a one-match ban after Venezuela’s late arrival to the field of play in their 1-0 win over Mexico.

✅    Venezuela conquered an important victory winning the Copa America Group Stage Group B Matchday 2 against on Wednesday 26 June 2024 at the SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California.  Incredible, Venezuela fans are celebrating not only they proved they could beat Mexico, but a team considered the underdog ranked #54 by FIFA beat Mexico ranked in the #15.

Venezuela are leading Group B with six points and will be moving on to the quarterfinals after its match Sunday against Jamaica. Ecuador is currently second in the group with three points after their win against Jamaica 3-1. Mexico needs a win on Sunday against Ecuador to move into second and into the quarterfinals.

The penalty was conceded by Julián Quiñones after a foul in the penalty area on Jon Aramburu. Ironically, Salomón plays for the Mexican League (Pachuca).

Mexico had a chance to level the score. In the 87th minute, Venezuela goalkeeper Rafael Romo saved a penalty denying Orbelín Pineda to shout a goal. The penalty was conceded by Miguel Navarro after a hand ball in the penalty area.

Hungary won the UEFA EURO 2024 Matchday 3 on Sunday 23 June 2024 at the Stuttgart Arena in Stuttgart, Germany. Despite the victory, Hungary and Scotland are out of the competition.  In Group A, Germany and Switzerland qualified to the Round of 16.  This is the first official match between Scotland and Hungary. In fact, all the previous nine have been in international friendlies (3 wins for Scotland, 4 for Hungary, 2 draws).

Scotland could reach the knockout stages of the European Championship for the first time.
