Sunday 14 July 2024 ‧ UEFA European Championship – Final
Spain 2 – 1 England
47′ Nico Williams 73′ Cole Palmer
87′ Mikel Oyarzabal
Spain won their most important battle winning the UEFA EURO FINAL on Sunday 14 July 2024 at the Olympiastadion Stadium in Munich, Germany. Spain conquered the EURO and crowned as Champions! With this historic triumph, Spain became the first national team in history to win four different editions of the European Championships: 1964, 2008, 2012 and 2024. Yet another bitter pill for England, who lost their second consecutive final after the one in 2021 against ‘Italy.
Surely, it was an extraordinary second half. Nico Williams converts an assist after Yamal’s kiss, then Cole Palmer puts things right again with a splendid backheel from Bellingham. And just when the match seemed headed for extra time, voila, in the 86th minute Mikel Oyarzabal came off the bench and arrived first of all on a perfect through ball from Cucurella and handed the trophy to Spain. What else to say? Congratulations Spain, you did it, you earned it, you deserved it.
This was the third match between Spain and England at the European Championships: the Three Lions won 2-1 in the 1980 group stage and went through the penalty shootout (4-2) after the 0-0 draw in the quarter-finals of 1996.
✅ New records: Spain first team to win all 7 games in a single EURO. Spain player Lamine Yamal, 17 years old, becomes the youngster ever male player to feature in a World Cup or Euros final. He’s surpassed Pele’s record, which was set back in the 1958 World Cup. Another record, Lamine Yamal (aged 17) and England’s Kobbie Mainoo (aged 19) both starting the #EURO2024 final, two teenagers are featuring in the final of a EURO or World Cup final for the very first time.

England did not score in three of the four European and World Cup matches against Spain, and the last two matches between the two national teams in these two tournaments both ended 0-0 (World Cup 1982, EURO 1996). Spain have won all six matches so far at EURO 2024, already a record for most successes in a single edition of the European Championships. Since the introduction of the group stage in 1980, only France in 1984 (5/5) have lifted the trophy with a 100% win rate.

Spain took the lead in the 47th minute, just starting the second half. Nico Williams defeated England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. A fantastic assist from Lamine Yamal, the fourth in this European Championship, who opens perfectly in the area on the left for the Basque winger.

England equalized in the 73rd minute. What a decisive substitution! Imagine, Cole Palmer substituted Kobbie Mainoo in the 70th minute. Three minutes later, BANG! VOILA! Palmer equalized the score defeating Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Jude Bellingham. Definitely, this was a lethal counterattack by the English.

✅ Stats before the game: Spain have lost just four of their last 14 matches against England in all competitions (W7 D3), having recorded seven defeats in a row against the Three Lions. England won 3-2 the last time they faced Spain in the Nations League in October 2018; The Three Lions have not won two consecutive matches against La Roja since a series of seven between 1960 and 1980. Spain has won the last three European and World Cup finals: EURO 2008, EURO 2012 and the 2010 World Cup. No European national team has ever won four consecutive European and World Cup finals. This will be the fifth European Championship final for Spain: three successes (1964, 2008, 2012) and one defeat (1984). La Roja could become the first national team to win the competition four times.
England have reached the final of the European Championships in two consecutive editions. The Three Lions have in fact reached more European and World Cup finals with Gareth Southgate at the helm (two in four editions), compared to the first 23 participations combined between the World Cup/European Championships (one) before his arrival. This will be England’s first European and World Cup final played outside of England, in fact both the 1966 World Cup final and the EURO 2020 final were at Wembley. The Three Lions have never lost in Berlin in six games (W4, D2), only in Helsinki (8), Amsterdam (7) and Sunderland (7) have they played more matches in a single city without ever recording a defeat.
Stats: Spain vs England 27 games showing England 13 wins, Spain 10 wins, and 4 draws.

Wed 10 July 2024 ‧ UEFA European Championship – Semifinals
Netherlands 1 – 2 England
7′ Xavi Simons 18′ Harry Kane (pen)
. 91′ Ollie Watkins
🏆👉 England won the UEFA EURO Semifinal defeating Netherlands on Wednesday 10 July 2024 at the Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund, Germany. England got their pass to the Final thanks to the winner goal in extremis, 91st minute, scored by Ollie Watkins. The final will be played on Sunday 14 July.
England reached their second consecutive European Championship final. The Netherlands took the lead after just seven minutes with a great goal from Simons, but England did not falter and found the equalizer with Kane from a penalty and, during the first half, created two potential scoring opportunities with Foden. In the second half, the pace was slower and chances struggled to arrive, with both teams slow in turning the ball over. Just when the 90th minute was about to start, Palmer serves Watkins deep who controls it and with his right foot manages to beat an innocent Verbruggen to the far post. The Aston Villa striker’s goal is the last emotion of a hard-fought match which in the end saw the team he created most prevail over the course of the 90 minutes.
This is the fourth meeting between England and Holland in a major international tournament (World Cup/European Championship); The Netherlands won 3-1 at EURO 1988 (Marco van Basten hat-trick), a goalless draw at the 1990 World Cup, and England’s 4-1 success at EURO 1996.

✅ Stats before the game: England have won just one of their last nine matches against the Netherlands in all competitions (D4 L4), a success achieved in a friendly in Amsterdam in March 2018 (1-0). This is the fourth meeting between England and Holland in a major international tournament (World Cup/European Championship); The Orange won 3-1 at EURO 1988 (Marco van Basten hat-trick), a goalless draw at the 1990 World Cup, and England’s 4-1 success at EURO 1996. Of all the nations they have faced at least 20 times in their history, only against Brazil (15%) do England have a lower win percentage than they record against the Netherlands (27% – 6W, 9N, 7L). This is England’s fourth appearance in the semi-finals of a European Championship; after being eliminated in the first two matches of this type, in 1968 (against Yugoslavia) and 1996 (against Germany), the Three Lions reached the final of the competition in the most recent one played at EURO 2020 (2-1 v Denmark). The Netherlands have been eliminated in four of the five semi-finals played at the European Championships, the last in chronological order at EURO 2004. The only exception, the 2-1 victory against hosts Germany in 1988, a tournament which then ended with victory of the title. England reached the final at EURO 2020 – there have been five occasions where a team has reached the final in consecutive editions of the European Championship; USSR (1960/1964), Germany (1972/1976, 1976/1980, 1992/1996) and Spain (2008/2012).

Spain won the UEFA EURO 2024 Semifinal defeating France on Tuesday 9 July 2024 at the Allianz Stadium in Munich, Germany. Spain continuing its great European Championship (six wins out of six) and earning a spot for the final for Sunday against the winner of the other semifinal between Holland and England. France returns home, having arrived in the top four but never fully convincing in this European campaign.
Spain comes from behind to beat France and become the first finalists of EURO 2024. An intense and enjoyable match broken by Kolo Muani at the start and then decided midway through the first half by two Spanish goals scored by Lamine Yamal and Danni Olmo.
This is a match between a very dynamic Spain, the only team in this European Championship to have won all the matches played, and France, who arrived among the best four after a decidedly more complicated path (second place in the group, narrow success against Belgium in the round of 16 and passing through on penalties against Portugal in the quarterfinals).

In the 21st minute, Spain equalized for the 1-1. Lamine Yamal scored with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Álvaro Morata.
✅ Stats before the game: This is the sixth meeting between Spain and France in a major tournament (World Cup/EURO). France have won three matches (2-0 in the final of EURO 1984, 2-1 in the quarterfinals of EURO 2000, 3-1 in the round of 16 of the 2006 World Cup), while Spain won the most recent one, 2-0 in the quarterfinals of EURO 2012. The other match was a 1-1 draw during the group stage of EURO 1996. Facing each other in the semi-finals and having already met in the group stage (1996), round of 16 (2006), quarterfinals (2000 and 2012) and final (1984) of major tournaments (World Cup/EURO), Spain-France will be only the third challenge staged in each phase of the World Cup and European Championships, together with Italy-Spain and England-Germany. Spain is the only team to have won every match played at EURO 2024. No team in the history of the European Championships has ever won six matches in a single tournament and none has ever won six matches in a row in the European Championships. France could reach its fourth European Championship final (1984, 2000 and 2016), only the second of which would not be played in France (after EURO 2000 in the Netherlands). Spain, on the other hand, is aiming to reach its fifth final, with only Germany having played more (6). The Spaniards advanced to four out of five semi-finals, going out at EURO 2020 on penalties against eventual winners Italy. As of the start of 2023, Spain is the European team with the highest winning percentage, winning 15 of 19 matches under Luis de la Fuente (79%); the Spaniards have won their last seven games in a row and have not recorded a longer streak since June 2009-June 2010 (12 consecutive wins).
