Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Empoli, 14th position with 42 points and a negative goal difference of -10
Hellas Verona, 18th position with 30 points and a negative goal difference of -26

Hellas Verona struggling in the relegation zone ended the Serie A Week 37 game with a draw on Sunday 28 May 2023 at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy. Everything will be decided in the last 90 minutes: Hellas will face the away game at San Siro against AC Milan, while the direct contender for a place in Serie A, Spezia, will go to the Olimpico against Roma. For Empoli, the 38th matchday will be at home against Lazio, already certain of a place in the Champions League.

Verona therefore wastes the opportunity to get out of the relegation zone. The Ligurians, at 31 points like Hellas, have direct clashes on their side. Incredible, 90 seconds from the end, Verona throws away the opportunity to stretch on Spezia. The cold shower falls among the Gialloblù players at the end of the match between those who leave in tears and those who desperately remain on the ground with their hands on their faces. After many chances created in the first half, with Ngonge as protagonist with 5 dangerous actions, Gaich comes on from the bench and after less than two minutes he finds the winning flicker to send it into the net. In the final, Verona lost confidence, closing everything in their own area and after several shots promptly blocked by Montipò, gave way in the 96th minute allowing the opponents to equalize: the decisive deflection from a Stojanović shot was by Magnani.

Hellas Verona opened the score in the 61st minute. The goal by Adolfo Gaich defeated Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner.

Empoli equalized in the agonizing 96th minute. A goal by Petar Stojanovic defeated Hellas Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Emanuel Vignato.

Stats before the game: Great balance in the 11 matches between Verona and Empoli in Serie A: four wins for each side and three draws, including two “X” signs in the two most recent matches (both with the score 1-1). Verona have won four of their five previous home games (L1) in Serie A against Empoli, or 80% of those games; among the opponents faced at least five times within the walls of friends in the top division, the scaligers have recorded a higher percentage of victories only against Pisa (83% – five wins in six previous matches). Verona and Empoli earned the same points in 2023 in Serie A: 25 both, in 21 matches (W6, D7, L8); however, the Tuscans scored seven more goals than the Venetians in the period (24v17). Verona have lost their last two league matches; the Scala family have not suffered consecutive defeats in Serie A since the period between September and November 2022 (10 in that case). Empoli is the team that scored the most points in Serie A in May: 10, the result of three wins and a draw. Furthermore, only Inter scored more goals (13) than the Tuscans (10) in the period – between February and April Paolo Zanetti’s team was instead the one that had collected the fewest points (six) and scored the fewest goals (seven). .

👉 Lineup Hellas Verona (3-4-2-1): Montipò; Magnani, Hien, Cabal; Terracciano, Sulemana, Veloso, Depaoli; Ngonge, Tameze; Djuric

👉 Lineup Empoli (4-2-3-1): Vicario; Ebuehi, Ismajli, Luperto, Cacace; Grassi, Haas; Akpa Akpro, Fazzini, Cambiaghi; Piccoli
