Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lecce, 15th position with 3 points and a negative goal difference of -5
Torino, 3rd position with 7 points and a positive goal difference of +2

The Serie A Week 4 match between Torino and Lecce concluded with a 0-0 draw on Sunday, September 15, 2024, held at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium in Turin, Italy.   On a positive note, Torino has been on a roll, winning their last four Serie A encounters against Lecce without letting in a single goal. This is quite a turnaround from their earlier record, where they managed only one win in the last eight meetings with Lecce (D3 L4). Will today be the day that changes? Can Lecce secure a win or at least a draw?

✅   Stats before the game:

Torino have won each of their last four Serie A games against Lecce without conceding a goal, after having obtained just one win in their previous eight matches against this opponent (D3 L4); the Granata have managed to record more consecutive wins while keeping a clean sheet in their history in the competition only against Brescia (six, between 1967 and 1970).
Lecce have won only two of their 10 away games against Torino in Serie A (D2 L6), both with a score of 2-1: on 9 January 2000 and 16 September 2019, in two of the last four occasions in which they have played at home to the Granata during the first half of the season of the top flight.
Torino have scored in 16 of their last 17 games against Lecce in the top flight (26 goals in the process, an average of 1.5 per game) – the only exception being a 0-4 defeat for the Apulians on 2 February 2020, with goals from Alessandro Deiola, Antonin Barak, Filippo Falco and Gianluca Lapadula.

Lecce have remained unbeaten in four of their six Serie A away games with Luca Gotti on the bench (2W, 2D) – however, the Apulian team’s last away success against an opponent who starts the league day in the top five in the standings dates back to 19 February 2023 – 2-1 against Atalanta, with Marco Baroni on the bench.

Torino have obtained at least seven points in their first three games in a Serie A season for the fourth time in the three points for a win era, after 2015/16, 2017/18 and 2022/23 – however, only in the first of these have they managed to find success also in the fourth seasonal appointment (on that occasion 2-0 against Sampdoria).
Not since 1979/80 had Juventus and Torino jointly occupied first place in the Serie A standings after the first three games played (with Inter in that case, with Inter and Udinese instead this year).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Fiorentina, 12th position with 3 points and a positive goal difference of “0”
Atalanta, 13th position with 3 points and a negative goal difference of -1

Atalanta won the Serie A Week 4 beating Fiorentina on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy. Atalanta secured a crucial home win, marking their second victory of the season. Unfortunately for Fiorentina, they started strong but ultimately fell short. They remain winless this season, with three draws and one loss to their name.

Fiorentina had a successful run against Atalanta last season, winning both matches 3-2. Despite this, the Viola have not achieved back-to-back wins against Atalanta in Serie A since their impressive streak from 2012 to 2016, during which they won eight straight games.

The beginning of the match…

Fiorentina grabbed the advantage in the 15th minute when Lucas Martínez Quarta found the back of the net with a left-footed shot from close range, capitalizing on a corner given away by Matteo Ruggeri.

Atalanta leveled the score in the 21st minute when Mateo Retegui found the net with a header directed into the bottom left corner. Ademola Lookman provided the assist with a well-placed cross.

Fiorentina regained the lead in the 32nd minute when Moise Kean found the back of the net with a close-range right-footed shot into the bottom right corner, thanks to an assist from Robin Gosens.

Charles De Ketelaere brought Atalanta level at 2-2 with a close-range header that found the top center of the net, thanks to an assist from Éderson.

Atalanta took the lead just before ending the first half. In the 45+1′, Ademola Lookman scored with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Charles De Ketelaere.

✅  Stats before the game.

Perfect balance in the last nine matches between Atalanta and Fiorentina at the Goddess’ home in Serie A: three wins each and three draws (Viola won in the most recent one on 2 June).
Atalanta have lost three of their last four league games (1W), as many as in the previous 20 (13W, 4D), including the last two; Atalanta have not lost three games in a row in Serie A since November 2022. After the win against Lecce and the two defeats against Torino and Inter, Atalanta could lose three of their first four Serie A games of the season for only the second time in the Gasperini era, after 2016/17 (the first championship of the Piedmontese coach at the helm of the Goddess).
Fiorentina have drawn all of their first five games of the season in all competitions for the first time in their history. More specifically, the Viola have drawn all of their first three games of the season in Serie A for the second time, after 1936/37 and have never managed four draws out of four in the top flight.Fiorentina are unbeaten in 10 of their last 11 Serie A games (5W, 5D), the only defeat in the period coming against Hellas Verona on May 5.
Starting from last season, Fiorentina is the team that has scored the most headed goals in Serie A: 19, including the most recent one by Robin Gosens against Monza; considering the top five European championships, no team has done better with this fundamental (19 also Bayern Munich).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Genoa, 11th position with 4 points and a negative goal difference of -1
AS Roma, 17th position with 2 points and a negative goal difference of -1

The Serie A Week 4 clash between Genoa and Roma concluded in a 1-1 stalemate on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy. Artem Dovbyk opened the scoring for Roma in the first half, but Koni De Winter found the equalizer just moments before the final whistle. As a result, Roma’s quest for their first victory of the season continues, leaving them with three points, while Genoa climbs to five.

This season marks just the fourth occasion in Roma’s history where they have failed to win any of their first four Serie A matches, a situation reminiscent of 2010/11, 1984/85, and 1974/75. Something needs to change. Will Coach Daniele De Rossi step up?

Before the game, Roma has been quite dominant, remaining unbeaten in 17 of their last 18 encounters with Genoa in Serie A (with 13 wins and 4 draws), and they’ve managed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five meetings. The only time Genoa triumphed during this stretch was on September 28, 2023, when they won 4-1 at the Ferraris.

In the 37th minute, Roma gained the upper hand. Artem Dovbyk found the net with a right-footed shot aimed at the bottom left corner after a set piece. The goal was confirmed after a VAR review. This marks Dovbyk’s first goal for Roma!

Wow, what an exciting match! Genoa managed to level the score in the 96th minute, making it 1-1. Koni De Winter found the back of the net with a powerful header from a great cross by Vítinha.

Stats before the game:

After the 4-1 success in the last home match against Roma in the league, Genoa could win at least two games in a row at the Ferraris against the Giallorossi in Serie A for the first time since the period between 2008 and 2011 (four in that case).  After the defeat against Hellas Verona in the most recent match, Genoa could lose two home games in a row in the same Serie A season for the first time since the period between November and December 2021 (three, one of which against Roma).
Following the draws against Cagliari and Juventus and the defeat against Empoli, Roma could fail to win any of their first four Serie A games of the season for only the fourth time in their history, after 2010/11, 1984/85 and 1974/75.
AS Roma have won only one of their last 10 games in all competitions (5D, 4L): 1-0 against Genoa on May 19 in the league, at the Olimpico.

Roma are the team that have recorded the most offensive recoveries (30) in this start of the championship, exactly double that of Genoa (12th with 15). Roma is the opponent against which Andrea Pinamonti has scored the most goals in Serie A: five (with four different shirts – Frosinone, Genoa, Empoli and Sassuolo). Since his first goal against the Giallorossi in the tournament (February 2019), only João Pedro (six) has scored more goals than the 1999-born player against Roma in the league.

Players stats

Paulo Dybala has scored nine goals against Genoa in Serie A, only against Udinese (11) has he done better in the tournament. Furthermore, only three foreign players have scored double figures against the Grifone in the history of Serie A: Kurt Roland Hamrin (17), Gunnar Nordahl (15) and John Hansen (10).

Stephan El Shaarawy (16 years and 55 days on 21/12/2008 v Chievo) is still the third youngest player to have played in Serie A with the Genoa shirt (three appearances in total for him in the tournament), after Pietro Pellegri (15 years and 280 days) and Eddie Salcedo (15 years and 323 days). The 1992-born player also scored four goals against the Grifone in the top league, the three with the Roma shirt all came at the Ferraris (between 2016 and 2019).

AC Milan celebrated a decisive victory in Serie A Week 4, overpowering Venezia on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the iconic San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. This win marks Milan’s first of the season, bringing their points total to 5 and temporarily placing them in eighth position in the standings, just three points shy of the league leaders,

Juventus, at least for the night as they await the results of tomorrow’s matches. Meanwhile, Venezia finds itself at the bottom of the table, enduring its third loss of the season and struggling to find the back of the net once again.

Venezia, on the other hand, is feeling the heat, sitting at the bottom of the table with just 1 point.

The beginning of the match…

AC Milan got off to a fantastic start, taking the lead just 2 minutes into the match. Theo Hernández found the back of the net with a precise left-footed shot into the bottom left corner, thanks to an assist from Rafael Leão.

AC Milan boosted their scoreline in the 17th minute, as Matteo Gabbia netted a goal from just a few feet away with a right-footed strike, following a corner that Jay Idzes had conceded.

In the 25th minute, Captain America Christian Pulisic scored a penalty for AC Milan, striking it with his right foot straight down the middle to make it 3-0. The penalty was awarded after Jesse Joronen fouled Tammy Abraham.

Image

In a thrilling moment, Tammy Abraham netted his first goal for AC Milan by converting a penalty with a precise right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The foul on Rafael Leão by Joël Schingtienne led to the penalty being awarded.

Stats before the game:

Milan has triumphed in 10 out of their last 13 Serie A matches against Venezia, including a default 2-0 victory in 1963 (with 2 draws and 1 loss). The sole victory for Venezia during this stretch occurred on March 19, 2000, when they won 1-0 at Penzo thanks to a goal from Filippo Maniero. At home, Milan has been unbeaten in 12 of their 13 encounters with Venezia in Serie A, boasting 8 wins and 4 draws. To sum it up, the only time Venezia managed to win away against the Rossoneri in this league was on November 15, 1942, when they secured a 2-1 victory at the Arena Civica, with goals from Puppo and Pernigo.

Milan have not won any of their last five league games (D3 L2).  The Rossoneri have not recorded a longer streak without a win in Serie A since the period between March and April 2018 (six in that case, with Gennaro Gattuso as coach).  After draws against Torino and Lazio and a defeat against Parma, Milan could fail to win any of their first four Serie A games of the season for the second time in the last 65 years, after 1997/98 (D2 L2 in that case).

After losing 10 games in a row in Serie A, Venezia are unbeaten in four of their last six matches in the tournament (W1 D3).   Since the start of last season (since 2023/24), Rafael Leão is the only player to have reached double figures for both goals (10) and assists (10). Against Venezia, the Portuguese has already provided two assists, both in the match on January 9, 2022 at Penzo.

The Serie A Week 4 clash between Empoli and Juventus concluded in a stalemate on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. The match ended in a 0-0 draw, largely due to an outstanding display by Gatti. The Bianconeri managed to keep their goal safe, while Empoli held firm against a rather ineffective attack from Motta’s side. Both teams walked away with a point.

Empoli are coming off a 1-1 draw away to Bologna, while Juventus are coming off a 0-0 draw at home to Roma.

Juventus have won six of their last seven away games against Empoli in Serie A (1D), scoring 16 goals in the process (2.3 goals on average) and conceding exactly half (eight).
Empoli and Juventus drew their last league match (1-1 at the Allianz Stadium on 27 January), only once have the Tuscans remained unbeaten in two consecutive matches against the Bianconeri in Serie A: in 1998/99 (1W, 1D).
