Serie A Standing AFTER the game:
Udinese, 10th position with 8 points and a negative goal difference of -1
Lecce, 18th position with 5 points and a negative goal difference of -8

Udinese won the Serie A Week 7 game on Saturday 5 October 2024 at the Dacia Arena in Udine, Italy. In a match that was both intense and well-balanced, Udinese emerged victorious against Lecce with a brilliant free kick from Zemura. Lecce’s attacking strategy, led by Gotti, proved ineffective, as they rarely threatened the organized and sharp Bianconeri defense. This result means another away defeat for the Giallorossi, who couldn’t score, while Udinese gained three vital points.

Udinese have a win percentage higher than 50% against only nine opponents in Serie A and among these, Lecce is the one faced most often: with 18 wins in 32 matches (3D, 11P) the win percentage is 56%.

Next up in Serie A, Udinese will challenge Milan, and Lecce will face Fiorentina.

Here is the situation.  Udinese and Lecce have drawn their last two matches on Friulian soil in Serie A, after having won 11 home matches and three away matches in the previous 14 meetings at the home of the Bianconeri.

✅   Stats before the game:

From the 2008/09 season onwards, Lecce is the team that has been faced most often by Udinese among those against whom the Bianconeri have always remained unbeaten in the first half of the season in Serie A: the Friulian team has in fact obtained three wins and three draws in six matches in the period against the Apulians in the first part of the championship.

Udinese have lost by conceding at least three goals in two consecutive Serie A games for the first time since October 2019 and have only twice had three consecutive games in the competition (1957 and 2014) – however, the Bianconeri have won three of their first six games of this campaign and have only done better in their first seven on six occasions (most recently in 2022/23 with five wins).

Buy Serie A tickets

Udinese lost their last home league game, having won their previous two; the Bianconeri have therefore won two of their last three Serie A home games, as many as in their previous 23 (D12 L9).

Lecce have failed to score in their last four away games in Serie A and have only done worse on two occasions, in 1990 (six consecutive away games without a goal in that case) and 2005 (five).

Lecce have the worst conversion rate in Serie A 2024/25 (3%): with 98 shots taken (second best in the league after Roma), only three goals scored (worst attack in the tournament).

Stats about players

Lorenzo Lucca has scored three goals in his last five Serie A appearances, as many as in his previous 22 – the Udinese striker has already scored against Lecce in the top flight, in the 2-0 win on May 13.

Nikola Krstrovic, who has scored his last two goals in Serie A in home games, has not scored away since May 5 against Cagliari, which was also his team’s last away goal in the competition.

Kialonda Gaspar is the second defender in the league for duels won (43, behind only Yerri Mina with 48), second for aerial duels won (27, behind only Rrhamani with 30) and third for defensive headed clearances (18, behind Ismajli with 31 and Udinese’s Jaka Bijol with 20).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Inter, 4th position with 11 points and a positive goal difference of +6
Torino, 5th position with 11 points and a positive goal difference of +2

Inter won the Serie A Week 7 match on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy.  Inter secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Torino, thanks to a stunning hat trick from Marcus Thuram.  Torino had a tough time, finishing the game with just 10 players after Guillermo Maripán received a red card in the 20th minute.  Thuram opened the scoring in the 25th minute and added another in the 35th. Just a minute later, Zapata found the net for Torino. Thuram completed his hat trick with a goal

in the 60th minute. Vlasic managed to score from the penalty spot in the 86th minute, narrowing the deficit. Unfortunately, Zapata picked up an injury during the match. In the upcoming round, Inter will travel to face Roma, while Torino will take on Cagliari away.

In the first six rounds of the Serie A 23/24 season, Inter only allowed three goals and achieved four clean sheets. However, in the ongoing 24/25 season, they’ve already conceded more than double that number, with seven goals against and only two clean sheets, both at home.

What an incredible match for Marcus Thuram, who netted a hat trick against Torino! He found the back of the net in the 25th, 35th, and 60th minutes. It’s definitely a day he’ll cherish, especially as he takes the ball home as a keepsake.  On a brighter note, Inter continues to secure victories, but unfortunately, Vanoli will be without Zapata due to an injury.

Stats before the game:

Inter have won their last four Serie A games against Torino without conceding a goal; the only teams against whom the Nerazzurri have found more successes with consecutive clean sheets are Atalanta (five between September 1951 and September 1953) and Genoa (seven between November 2018 and August 2021).

Inter have won all of their last five Serie A home games against Torino, after having found only two successes in the previous eight (D4, L2).

In their first six games of this championship, Inter have won only three times (D2, L1) and have not had three wins in their first seven since 2020/21 (W3, D3, L1), a season which however ended with the Scudetto.

Inter lost their last home game in Serie A, after an unbeaten run of 17 home games (W13, D4); the Nerazzurri have not lost two consecutive home games in the tournament since a run of three between March and April 2023.

Buy Serie A tickets

Inter have conceded at least two goals in three games in this championship, already more times than in the entire first half of last season (two); they have also conceded at least two goals in their last two games and have not reached three in a row with more than one goal conceded since May 2023.

Torino have won three games in their first six matchdays of this championship (D2, L1).  They have not achieved four wins in their first seven games of the season in Serie A since 2015/16 (W4, D1, L2)

Torino have remained unbeaten in their first three away games of this championship (W2, D1) and in Serie A in the era of three points for a win they have only twice not suffered a defeat in their first four away games of the season (2012/13 and 2018/19, in both cases one win and three draws).

⚽️  The Serie A Top Scorers feature a group of five players, all with four goals to their name: Dušan Vlahović (J), Patrick Cutrone (C), Christian Pulisic (M), Marcus Thuram (I), and Mateo Retegui (A).

✅  We have new leaders!  Napoli keeps up their winning streak, achieving their third straight clean sheet.  Napoli beat Monza and also become the sole leaders with 13 points for the first time since the final matchday of Serie A 2022/23!    It has been 16 months since Napoli held the top spot in the league. This moment coincides with the presence of former coach Luciano Spalletti, who was in the stands at the Maradona for the match against Monza.

Meanwhile, Monza is struggling, still searching for their first victory in the league this season.  The outcome of the match between Napoli and Monza was determined in the first half. The Azzurri took the lead with a left-footed strike from Matteo Politano and quickly extended their advantage with Kvaratskhelia’s close-range effort following a rebound from McTominay’s shot.

Juventus is right behind in second place with 12 points after a solid 0-3 victory against Genoa. They capitalized on Torino’s slip-up, as their city rivals fell from the top after losing to Lazio.

Torino faced a tough defeat against Lazio at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium.  This defeat marks Torino’s first setback in the championship, which is certainly disappointing for the team. As a result, they dropped from 1st to 4th place in the standings, now sitting at 11 points. Their upcoming game will be at San Siro, where they will take on Simone Inzaghi’s Inter.  Sadly, Torino have not been alone at the top of the Serie A standings at the end of the day since the 1976/77 season, after 17 games played (29 points, considering two points for a win)

AC Milan defeated Lecce in San Siro Stadium.   Milan climbs to the top of the standings alongside Torino, both teams now boasting 11 points, while Lecce remains at 5 points. The match started off quite uneventful for the first half hour, but everything changed just before halftime. Milan scored three quick goals from Morata, Theo Hernandez, and Pulisic, sealing the game.

Roma secured a thrilling victory. The match saw Roma stage a comeback after falling behind in the first half when Joel Pohjanpalo put Venezia ahead. However, in the second half, Bryan Cristante leveled the score, and the young talent Niccolò Pisilli netted the winning goal.  With this win, the Giallorossi climbed to 9 points in the standings, temporarily matching Empoli. Unfortunately for Venezia, they remain at 4 points and feeling the heat as they sit in 18th place.

The highly anticipated Tuscan derby ended without any goals. The game struggled to find its rhythm, with a lackluster first half, but the home team showed more energy at the beginning of the second half. Fiorentina attempted to make an impact through Kean, but neither side could find the back of the net. Both teams earned a point, with Empoli remaining unbeaten and rising to 10 points, while Fiorentina climbed to 7 points.

👉 Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Monza, 19th position with 3 points and a negative goal difference of -2
Napoli, 5th position with 10 points and a positive goal difference of +5

Napoli triumphed in the Serie A Week 6 match on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Napoli, Italy. The Azzurri continue their impressive form, marking their third consecutive clean sheet. Not only did they secure a win against Monza, but they also claimed the top position in the league with 13 points for the first time since the last matchday of the Serie A 2022/23 season! It’s hard to believe that it has been 16 months since Napoli last occupied the league’s summit. On the other hand, Monza is having a tough time.  They are still on the hunt for their first win of the season.

The outcome of the match between Napoli and Monza was determined in the first half. The Azzurri took the lead with a left-footed strike from Politano and quickly extended their advantage with Kvaratskhelia’s close-range effort following a rebound from McTominay’s shot. In the second half, Monza attempted to push forward and create opportunities, but they struggled to find the finishing touch in the final third, leaving Caprile with little to do. Towards the end, substitutes Neres and Raspadori nearly added to the scoreline.

After a shocking 3-0 defeat to Verona at the Bentegodi, Antonio Conte’s Napoli has rallied with three consecutive wins and a draw against Juventus just a week ago. The Azzurri are firmly back in the Scudetto race and have also moved forward in the Coppa Italia, dominating Palermo with a 5-1 win at the Maradona.

Monza, under the guidance of Alessandro Nesta, is yet to secure their first league win, but they did manage to draw with Inter a couple of weeks ago. The team from Brianza has faced two draws and two losses in the championship, but they have made it to the next round of the Coppa Italia after defeating Brescia 3-1 this week.

The beginning…

Napoli opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, thanks to Matteo Politano, who scored with a left-footed shot right down the middle.

Napoli extended their lead in the 33rd minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia found the back of the net with a right-footed shot aimed at the center. Scott McTominay provided the assist.

✅  Stats before the game:

Napoli have won by scoring exactly four goals in two of their four Serie A matches against Monza; however, they have drawn and lost in the remaining two, without finding the back of the net.

Monza have remained unbeaten in five of their seven away matches against Napoli between Serie A and B (2W, 3D), however the two defeats have come on the only two of these occasions in which the two teams faced each other at the home of the Neapolitans before October: 5-0 in the cadet tournament on 20 September 1964 and 4-0 in the top flight on 21 August 2022.

Napoli have obtained 10 points in the first five matchdays of this championship: with a win against Monza they would rise to 13, a milestone that in the first six games of the season they have reached or exceeded six times in the previous eight Serie A tournaments, more than any other team in the period.

Of the teams currently in Serie A, Monza are the ones who have been waiting for a win for the longest number of league rounds: 14 (D6, L8); the last non-promoted Lombard team to have recorded a longer streak of consecutive matches in the top flight without a win was Atalanta, in 1994 (16).

Napoli have won their first two home league games with Antonio Conte on the bench, who could become the sixth Italian coach to find success in each of the first three home games with the Neapolitans in Serie A, after Paolo Iodice (in 1939), Luis Vinicio (in 1973), Alberto Bigon (in 1989), Carlo Ancelotti (in 2018) and Luciano Spalletti (in 2021).

Monza have drawn in four of their last six league away games (L2), as many times as in the previous 17; in addition, after the 0-0 against Empoli and the 2-2 against Fiorentina, they could draw three away games in a row for the first time in Serie A.

Fiorentina, 13th position with 6 points and a positive goal difference of “0”

Empoli and Fiorentina played to a scoreless draw in their Serie A Week 6 match on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy.

Stats before the game:

Empoli have drawn three of their last four league games against Fiorentina (L1), after not recording a draw in their previous seven Serie A games against the Viola (W3 L4).

Fiorentina have won just one of their last six Serie A away games against Empoli (D2 L3) – 4-0 on 20 November 2016 – after having won four of their previous five (D1).

This is only the third time that Empoli have faced Fiorentina in Serie A with more points in the table going into the matchday: in the previous two, the Viola obtained a win (2-1 on 15 October 2006) and a draw (1-1 on 19 February 2023). Empoli are unbeaten in their first five Serie A games of a season for the first time in the competition (W2 D3); overall, the only Tuscan team to have played without losing the first six games of a single top-flight championship in the last 40 years was Fiorentina in 2007/08.

Fiorentina have won three of their last six away games in Serie A (D1 L2), after having recorded no wins in the previous six; however, the Viola have started this tournament, under Raffaele Palladino, with a draw and a defeat away from home: the last coach to fail to win any of his first three away games in the competition with this team was Vincenzo Montella, in 2012/13.

Three of Empoli’s last four home games in Serie A have ended 0-0, including the two most recent: only twice in their history in the competition have they recorded more home games in a row without goals scored or conceded, in April 1987 (three) and January 2015 (four).
