Genoa failed to win their Serie A Week 8 match against Bologna on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa. The action wraps up with a draw means both teams walk away with a point in the overall standings.

The first half was dominated by one side, with Orsolini scoring in the 37th minute to put his team ahead. However, the second half brought a flurry of excitement with three additional goals. In the 56th minute, Odgaard increased the lead with a stunning left-footed volley, making it 0-2. But Genoa fought back, with Pinamonti stepping up to lead his team. First, he capitalized on a mistake by Casale in the 73rd minute to score, and then in the 85th minute, he delivered a spectacular shot from 15 meters that left the Genoa goalkeeper stunned. In the four minutes of added time, both teams pushed for a winning goal but couldn’t find it. This gripping contest in Liguria concluded at the 94-minute mark.

Gilardino and Italiano’s squads will be preparing for their next matches, with one team traveling to face Lazio and the other hosting Milan.

Genoa are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 Serie A matches against Bologna (W5 D4). The Emilians’ only win in that period came on 21 May 2022 (1-0 at the Ferraris).

Bologna gained the advantage in the 37th minute when Riccardo Orsolini found the back of the net with a stunning left-footed shot into the top right corner, assisted by Nikola Moro.

Genoa faced a whirlwind of events. In the 56th minute, Bologna pushed their advantage further when Jens Odgaard scored with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner, taking advantage of a corner conceded by Morten Frendrup.

In the 73rd minute, Genoa closed the gap with a goal from Andrea Pinamonti. He fired a right-footed shot from outside the box, finding the bottom right corner, thanks to an assist from Jeff Ekhator.

What a thrilling game! Andrea Pinamonti leveled the score at 2-2 with a brilliant header in the 85th minute, placing it perfectly in the top left corner. The assist came from Aarón Martín.

Stats before the game:

The last nine matches at the Ferraris between Genoa and Bologna in Serie A have been very evenly matched: three wins each and three draws – the Grifone won 2-0 in the most recent one, on 24 May.

Genoa have lost four of their last five league matches (D1), including the three most recent. The last time they recorded four defeats in a row in Serie A dates back to December 2021, with Andriy Shevchenko as coach.

In the calendar year 2024, only Juventus (14) have drawn more matches than Bologna (12) in the top five European leagues. More specifically, no team has drawn more games in percentage terms than Bologna this season in the Big-5 European leagues: 71%, tied with Lens (5 out of 7 both).

Bologna could draw six of their first eight games of the season for only the second time in their history in Serie A, after 1989/90.

Genoa are the team that have conceded the most goals in this championship: 15, 12 of which in the second half (another negative record). Only three times in their history in Serie A have the Grifone conceded more goals after the first seven games of the season: 16 in 2021/22, 17 in 1957/58 and 16 in 1939/40.

Genoa is the only team that has no player with more than one goal this Serie A season: five different scorers all with one goal: Vogliacco, Messias, Pinamonti, De Winter and Ekhator.
