A historic and surprising result unfolded at Kansas City Stadium on Saturday, 20 June 2026.    Curacao held Ecuador to a 0-0 draw, earning their first-ever point in World Cup history.    This achievement was largely due to the remarkable saves made by Room, who was the standout player of the evening, significantly complicating Ecuador's path to the knockout stage.

In this match, there was only one player from Serie A. AC Milan's defender Pervis Estupiñán participated until the 71st minute before being substituted by Nilson Angulo. Estupinan plays for the Ecuador national team. Both teams were eager for a victory after losing their initial matches. Ecuador faced a close 1-0 loss against Ivory Coast, whereas World Cup newcomer Curaçao was beaten 7-1 by Germany.

In the closing moments,  Ecuador intensified its offensive efforts, fielding three strikers and maintaining a constant presence in Curacao's half. However, Room's extraordinary performance and Advocaat's defensive resilience thwarted any attempts to secure a winning goal.

Ecuador and Curacao will meet again on Thursday, June 25, facing Germany and Ivory Coast, respectively. Both teams will need to secure a victory to keep their hopes alive for advancing to the tournament's round of 16, with Germany already assured a spot in this group.
