Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Cagliari, 16th position with 24 points and a negative goal difference of -15
Genoa, 12th position with 31 points and a negative goal difference of -10

Cagliari and Genoa ended the Serie A Week 28 with a draw on Friday, March 7, 2025, at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, Italy.  A result that favors Genoa, who now sits at 32 points. Cagliari, on the other hand, has 26 points, tying with Verona and establishing a 4-point gap from the relegation zone. Nicolas Viola scored first for the home team in the first half, but Cornet brought the guests level early in the second half. The game remained tightly contested, with both teams unable to find a winning goal.

Genoa comes to Sardinia in a more secure position, sitting nine points clear of the relegation zone. A win today could be vital for their survival hopes. On the other hand, Cagliari, with only one point from their last three outings, is looking to bounce back and pull away from the relegation danger that looms just three points behind.

The match …

Cagliari opened the scoring in the 18th minute when Nicolas Viola found the back of the net with a left-footed strike into the bottom right corner. The setup came from Roberto Piccoli. The Sardinians quickly got back into action, with Piccoli maneuvering the ball in the attacking third before passing it to Viola, who expertly controlled it and finished with a well-placed left-footed shot that caught Leali off guard.

Genoa found the equalizer just after halftime in the 47th minute. Maxwel Cornet scored with a precise left-footed shot aimed at the center of the goal. The setup came from Caleb Ekuban, who cleverly intercepted the ball from Luperto and delivered a well-placed pass into the box. Cornet made a swift move to the far post and calmly slotted it into the net, leaving goalkeeper Elia Caprile with no chance to respond.

Stats before the game

Cagliari and Genoa are set to face off for the 50th time in Serie A.  The current record showing 17 wins for Cagliari, 19 for Genoa, and 13 draws. Following their 2-2 draw in the first leg, it’s possible that both matches this season could end in draws. Hence, marking a first since the three-point win system was established. Historically, these teams have only recorded two instances of consecutive draws in Serie A: a series from May 1991 to April 1992 and another in the 1993/94 season.

Cagliari have lost both of their last two league matches.  They have yet to record three defeats in a row in the tournament since the start of 2025. Overall, in the current Serie A, since the start of the new calendar year the Sardinians have earned almost half a point more on average per game (+0.44) than they did in 2024: 1.22 points per game since the start of January, compared to 0.78 in the first 18 matchdays.

Patrick Vieira made his debut as Genoa coach in Serie A in the 13th round of this championship against Cagliari and, since then, Genoa has won 68% of its total points in the current tournament (21/31): in percentage terms, only Roma (70% – 30/43) has obtained more points than the Grifone in this phase of the championship.  With 21 points in 15 league games at the helm of Genoa, Patrick Vieira is the Grifone coach with the best points average in the era of three points for a win in Serie A: 1.40 per game.

🇮🇹👉  AC Milan lost the Serie A Week 27 game on Sunday 2 March 2025 at San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy.  Milan has stumbled again, suffering their third consecutive defeat in the league. This may signal the end of their hopes to reach the 4th position.

This was a key match for the Rossoneri and Biancocelesti. The road to Europe runs through tonight’s encounter at San Siro. After losing to Bologna, Conceiçao’s squad is facing one of their final opportunities to reach fourth place, which is currently eight points away. For Baroni’s team, winning tonight is crucial to briefly surpass Juventus and create pressure on their direct rivals for a spot in the Champions League.

Lazio have drawn their last two league matches and have not recorded consecutive draws in Serie A since the period between November and December 2018 (four in that case, including a 1-1 against Milan on 25 November 2018 at the Olimpico).

The match …

⚪️🔵 Lazio struck first in the 28th minute when Mattia Zaccagni found the back of the net with a close-range left-footed shot. After Tchaouna set up Marusic, who challenged Maignan, the ball rebounded off the French keeper, allowing Zaccagni to capitalize and score with his left foot. Lazio takes the lead at San Siro!

In the 85th minute, AC Milan leveled the score at 1-1. Samuel Chukwueze found the back of the net with a powerful header into the top right corner, thanks to an assist from Rafael Leão. Leão delivered a gentle cross to the far post, and Chukwueze, unmarked by Nuno Tavares, expertly headed it home to equalize!

Lazio clinched the victory in the dying moments of the match, scoring in the 98th minute. Pedro sealed the win for Lazio by successfully converting a penalty with his right foot. The penalty was awarded after Mike Maignan committed a foul on Gustav Isaksen inside the box.

Congratulations to Theo Hernández on his 250th match with AC Milan and to Mike Maignan for his impressive 150 appearances! Forza Rossoneri! These are fantastic milestones for both of them!

✅   Stats before the game:

Milan are unbeaten in six of their last seven league matches against Lazio (W5 D1).  The Biancocelesti’s only win in that period dating back to 24 January 2023 (4-0 at the Olimpico).

After the 2-2 draw in the first leg on 31 August, Milan and Lazio could draw both of their Serie A matches this season for the first time since 2013/14.

Milan are unbeaten in 33 of their last 34 home matches against Lazio in Serie A (W22 D11).  Lazio’s only away win against the Rossoneri in that period dating back to 3 November 2019 (2-1 with goals from Immobile and Correa).

Milan have won seven of their last eight league matches at the Meazza against Lazio (L1), including all four of the most recent ones.  Only once have the Rossoneri achieved five consecutive home wins against the Biancocelesti in Serie A: between December 1956 and January 1961.

After the defeats against Torino and Bologna, Milan could lose three games in a row in Serie A for the first time since the period between January and February 2023.  This is a run that began with a defeat against Lazio (0-4, 24 January 2023).
Milan won their last home game in Serie A (1-0 vs Hellas Verona) and only once in this championship have they won at least two home games in a row, between September and October (a run of three).

👉🟡🔴 AS Roma won the Serie A Week 27game on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. In an exciting match, Roma came from behind to defeat Como 2-1, marking their fourth consecutive victory. Da Cunha put Como ahead just before halftime in the 44th minute.

The second half saw Saelemaekers level the score in the 61st minute. Como’s situation worsened when Kempf was shown a second yellow card and sent off in the 63rd minute. Dovbyk then scored the crucial goal in the 76th minute, thanks to an assist from Rensch. Vojvoda nearly equalized for Como, hitting the post in the 88th minute.

Roma’s next challenge is an away game against Empoli, while Como will take on Venezia at home.

Roma found the equalizer in the 61st minute when Alexis Saelemaekers scored with a right-footed shot aimed at the top center of the goal. Zeki Çelik provided the assist, and Saelemaekers managed to get past Butez with a shot that was deflected by Goldaniga, hitting the crossbar.

In the 76th minute, Roma changed the tide of the match. Artem Dovbyk scored with a left-footed shot from very close range, sending the ball into the bottom left corner, assisted by Devyne Rensch.
Roma 2 – 1 Como.

✅  Stats before the game.

Roma has faced defeat in their last two Serie A matches against Como, losing 0-2 on both January 25, 2003, and December 15. This marks a record streak for the Lombardy team against the Capitoline side in the top flight. That is especially considering that Roma had previously enjoyed five straight victories over Como in this competition. Following the 0-2 loss in the first leg against Como, Roma is at risk of losing both matches in a season against a newly promoted team for the first time since the 1995/96 season against Atalanta.

Como have won only one away match against Roma in Serie A.  The first against the Giallorossi in the tournament (on April 23, 1950 by 1-0), since then in 11 matches at the Giallorossi’s home in the tournament, seven Capitoline victories (including all of the last three) and four draws.

Roma have won their last three league matches without conceding a goal.  The Giallorossi have not achieved four consecutive wins in Serie A since July-August 2020. The Capitoline team could record four consecutive clean sheets for the first time since May-August 2018. Como have won their last two league games (against Fiorentina and Napoli), the Lariani could record three consecutive wins in Serie A for the first time since May-June 1952 with Robert Winkler as coach.

After the away win against Fiorentina, Como could achieve two consecutive away wins for only the second time in their history in Serie A after the period between April-May 1950 (three with Mario Varglien at the helm). Roma are both the team that has earned the most points in Serie A in 2025 (20).  In addition, the only unbeaten team in the tournament in the new calendar year (6W, 2D).
