Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Empoli, 10th position with 26 points and a negative goal difference of -5
AS Roma, 6th position with 37 points and a positive goal difference of +8

AS Roma with a sprint race to remain within the top 6 positions won the Serie A Week 21 game against Empoli on Saturday 4 February 2023 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. Three points lead the Giallorossi to momentarily catch Inter in the standings in second place at 40 points. Empoli remain with 26 points. Roma wins a game that they liquidated in the first six minutes thanks to two headers from Ibanez and Tammy Abraham. In the second half, Empoli tries to create chances, but crashes against the yellow and red wall. Roma came close to making a trio, but Vicario denied the goal on several occasions.

AS Roma opened the score in the 2nd minute. Ibañez defeated Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with a headed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Paulo Dybala with a cross following a corner conceded by Sebastiano Luperto.

Roma scored in the 6th minute. The assist is again by Paulo Dybala. Forward Tammy Abraham scored from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Dybala following a corner conceded by Fabiano Parisi.

Stats before the game. Roma have not lost against Empoli in Serie A since 17 February 2007 (1-0 at Castellani with a goal from Pozzi): since then three draws and 10 yellow and red victories, including all the last six in chronological order (these six always scoring at least two goals). In the 14 Serie A matches between these two teams at Roma’s home, no less than 12 Capitoline victories and two draws: the Giallorossi is in fact the team against which Empoli have played the most away games in the top tournament without ever winning – Roma always found the goal in these 14 home matches. Roma have won their last two Serie A home games without conceding a goal: the Giallorossi have not had three consecutive home wins in the competition keeping clean sheets since May 2019 (with Ranieri on the bench).  Six consecutive useful results for Empoli (three wins and three draws): the Tuscans have not played at least seven games in a row in Serie A, remaining unbeaten since March 2015 (eight in that case, with Maurizio Sarri on the bench).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Atalanta, 4th position with 18 points and a positive goal difference of +16
Sassuolo, 16th position with 20 points and a negative goal difference of +8

👉 Atalanta losing precious points. Sassuolo won the Serie A Week 21 game stopping Atalanta’s race on Saturday 4 February 2023 at the Mapei Stadium in Sassuolo, Italy. Sassuolo, after clearing the San Siro, Dionisi’s men secured their second consecutive win thanks to Armand Laurienté’s goal in the second half. Atalanta, which interrupts the streak of consecutive useful results at 5, does not approach the match well and thanks to the numerical inferiority caused by Mæhle almost never becomes dangerous. At the end Muriel is also expelled for being too nervous.

In the next round of the championship, Atalanta will play away against Lazio while Sassuolo will visit Udinese.

Sassuolo opened the score in the 55th minute. Armand Laurienté defeated Atalanta goalkeeper

Stats before the game.  Only against Juventus (14), have Sassuolo racked up more defeats in Serie A than those accumulated against Atalanta (11 in 19 matches): the Bergamo players have won 10 of their last 13 games against the neroverdi in the top division ( 2D, 1L). Sassuolo won their last home match in Serie A against Atalanta (2-1 last season with Dionisi on the bench): their only other home win against the nerazzurri was obtained in the first meeting with the Dea at Mapei Stadium (24 November 2013) – four Bergamo victories and three draws in the other seven matches in Reggio Emilia. Sassuolo have lost their last two Serie A home games and have not collected three knockouts in a row at home since October 2019 with De Zerbi on the bench (one of those three defeats against Atalanta). Only Napoli (12) have collected more points than Atalanta (11) since the beginning of 2023 in Serie A; Gasperini’s team is – with Monza and Empoli – one of the three teams still unbeaten in the league this calendar year, as well as the one that has scored the most goals (17).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lecce, 15th position with 20 points and a negative goal difference of -5
Cremonese, 20th position with 8 points and a negative goal difference of -20

This is a wake-up call for Cremonese losing the Serie A Week 21 game against Lecce on Saturday 4 February 2023 at the Giovanni Zini Stadium in Cremona, Italy.  Lecce returned to victory thanks to second-half goals from Federico Baschirotto and Gabriel Strefezza. Cremonese is still knocked out and remained in the last position with only 8 points.  Just wondering when will it be the awakening time.

In the standings, Leccei leap to 23, who temporarily put ten points above the relegation zone.   In the next round, Lecce will face Romea and  Cremonese will play the away game against Napoli at the DIego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Lecce opened the score in the 58th minute. Federico Baschirotto defeated Cremonese goalkeeper from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Morten Hjulmand with a cross following a corner conceded by Vlad Chiriches.

Cremonese unable to react. In the 69th minute, Gabriel Strefezza scored for Lecce with a left-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Joan Gonzàlez.

✅  Stats before the game. There are five precedents in Serie A between Cremonese and Lecce: a yellow and red victory in the first-ever match in the top tournament (2-1 in Salento dated 19 November 1989), two gray and red successes and two draws, including the 1-1 in the match d ‘gone. In the two Serie A home matches, a 1-1 draw on 18 March 1990 and a 2-1 victory for Lombardy on 7 November 1993; Cremonese also won their last home match in order of time in Serie B against Lecce: 3-0 on 22 August 2021 with goals from Valzania, Buonaiuto and Valeri. Cremonese has not yet won in these first 20 rounds: only one newly promoted team in the history of Serie A has missed the appointment with victory in all the first 21 days played in a top division, Ancona in 2003/04 (six draws and 15 losses in that case). Lecce have lost their last two league games and have not collected three consecutive knockouts in the same Serie A tournament since their run of six with Liverani on the bench between February and July 2020; in fact, this season the Apulians have never lost three league games in a row.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AS Roma, 6th position with 37 points and a positive goal difference of +9
Napoli, 1st position with 50 points and a positive goal difference of +32

Napoli are dominating the league.  Napoli keep the leadership after winning the Serie A Week 20 game against Roma on Sunday 29 January 2023 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Napoli, Italy.   Napoli won narrowly and climbed to 53 points, remaining firmly at the top of the standings. Spalletti’s team ended the first half ahead thanks to a goal from Osimhen, but let the Giallorossi recover in the second half thanks to El Shaarawy’s flash. Simeone takes care of deciding the match five minutes from the 90th minute with a surgical shot to electrocute Rui Patricio. Napoli conquers the fourth consecutive victory and moves to +13 from Inter, Roma instead stops its run after two successes in a row.
In the next round of the championship, Roma will host Empoli while Napoli will visit Spezia.

The challenge between the two best defenses in the second half of this championship: only seven goals conceded by Napoli and Roma in the second 45 minutes of the game so far; among these for the Giallorossi is that of Osimhen in the first leg match.

Napoli opened the score in the 17th minute. Forward Victor Osimhen defeated AS Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio with a right-footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

AS Roma equalized in the 75th minute. Forward Stephan El Shaarawy defeated Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret with a right-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Nicola Zalewski.

Napoli took the lead again in the 86th minute. Forward Giovanni “EL Cholito” Simeone with a left footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Piotr Zielinski.

✅  Stats before the game. Napoli have remained unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches against Roma in the league (W5, D3), the last success of the Giallorossi against the Neapolitans in Serie A dates back to 2 November 2019 (2-1 at the Olimpico). Napoli are unbeaten in their last four home league games against Roma (W2, D2) and have not obtained at least five consecutive useful home results against the Giallorossi in Serie A since the period 1989-1995 (seven in that case). Excluding the two years of Calciopoli, this is only the fifth time in history that a team has won at least 16 of the first 19 games played in a Serie A championship: Napoli 2022/23, Juventus 2018/19, Juventus 2013/ 14, Inter 2006/07 and Juventus 1949/50.  Considering all competitions since the beginning of 2023, only Nantes (five out of five) have obtained more clean sheets than Roma among the teams in the top five European leagues: four games out of five with clean sheets for the Giallorossi. Of the 10 managers he has met at least four times in Serie A, Luciano Spalletti is the one against whom José Mourinho has the worst win percentage (20%): only one win in five matches for the Portuguese, in the first match on 19 October 2008 (D3 , 1P).
