Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Empoli, 10th position with 26 points and a negative goal difference of -5
AS Roma, 6th position with 37 points and a positive goal difference of +8

AS Roma with a sprint race to remain within the top 6 positions won the Serie A Week 21 game against Empoli on Saturday 4 February 2023 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. Three points lead the Giallorossi to momentarily catch Inter in the standings in second place at 40 points. Empoli remain with 26 points. Roma wins a game that they liquidated in the first six minutes thanks to two headers from Ibanez and Tammy Abraham. In the second half, Empoli tries to create chances, but crashes against the yellow and red wall. Roma came close to making a trio, but Vicario denied the goal on several occasions.

AS Roma opened the score in the 2nd minute. Ibañez defeated Empoli goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with a headed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Paulo Dybala with a cross following a corner conceded by Sebastiano Luperto.

Roma scored in the 6th minute. The assist is again by Paulo Dybala. Forward Tammy Abraham scored from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Dybala following a corner conceded by Fabiano Parisi.

Stats before the game. Roma have not lost against Empoli in Serie A since 17 February 2007 (1-0 at Castellani with a goal from Pozzi): since then three draws and 10 yellow and red victories, including all the last six in chronological order (these six always scoring at least two goals). In the 14 Serie A matches between these two teams at Roma’s home, no less than 12 Capitoline victories and two draws: the Giallorossi is in fact the team against which Empoli have played the most away games in the top tournament without ever winning – Roma always found the goal in these 14 home matches. Roma have won their last two Serie A home games without conceding a goal: the Giallorossi have not had three consecutive home wins in the competition keeping clean sheets since May 2019 (with Ranieri on the bench).  Six consecutive useful results for Empoli (three wins and three draws): the Tuscans have not played at least seven games in a row in Serie A, remaining unbeaten since March 2015 (eight in that case, with Maurizio Sarri on the bench).
