Italian Soccer Serie A

Hello, my friends. Here are the 2022-2023 Italian Serie A Week 21 RESULTS / Twenty-first Round on Saturday 4, Sunday 5, Monday 6, and Tuesday 7 February 2023.   Napoli are the sole leaders having 56 points and + 13 points ahead of second-placed Inter with 43 points.  Inter claimed the 178th Derby di Milano defeating AC Milan.

A highlight of the Round is seeing Federico Baschirotto scoring Lecce’s 600th goal in Serie A (including forfeit results).

Lecce have remained unbeaten in four of their last five Serie A TIM away games (W2, D2), recording three clean sheets in the period.

AS Roma forward Argentinean Paulo Dybala is the first player capable of dishing up two assists in the first six minutes of a Serie A match since 2004/05.

Sassuolo won two games in a row against teams in the top four in the table at the start of the day for the first time in Serie A.

Atalanta have not found success in four of their last five Serie A TIM away games (D2, L2), after having won five of the previous six (D1); in addition, the players from Bergamo have not scored away from home for the first time in this championship. Ouch!

Inter claim the bragging rights to rule Milan.  Inter won the Serie A Week 21 game defeating AC Milan on Sunday 5 February 2023 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy.  Inter continue their sprint race to keep up the race for the Scudetto remaining in the 2nd position with 43 points and -13 points below Napoli with 56 points.  On the other hand, the crisis for Milan is just obvious and falling down.

Inter secured the 178th Derby thanks to the goal by Lautaro Martínez. AC Milan collected the third consecutive defeat in the league. In the next round, Milan will play at home against Torino while Inter will visit Sampdoria.

✅  Stats before the game. Milan have won their last two league derbies against Inter, and it is since the period between November 2002 and February 2004 that the Rossoneri have not achieved more consecutive wins against the Nerazzurri in Serie A (four in that case). After a 3-2 first leg win, AC Milan could win both derbies against Inter in a single Serie A season for the first time since 2010/11 under Massimiliano Allegri. Inter have lost their last two home derbies against Milan in the league (both 1-2), as many as in the previous 16 (W11, D3). No team has conceded fewer goals than Inter in home games this league season: five, equal to Roma. Only Napoli (28) have earned more points than the Nerazzurri in home games in Serie A 2022/23 (24 in 10 matches). Milan have lost their last three matches in all competitions, the Rossoneri could record four defeats in a row for the first time since the period between January and February 2017 under Vincenzo Montella in charge. Inter lead by 67 wins to 54, completing the picture 56 draws – against no team have the Rossoneri suffered more defeats in the top division (67 also against Juventus), while for the Nerazzurri the 56 draws against Milan represent a record in the tournament.

Serie A Standing AFTER the game:
Udinese, 7th position with 29 points and a positive goal difference of +6
Torino, 8th position with 27 points and a negative goal difference of -1

Torino beat Udinese winning the Serie A Week 21 game on Sunday 5 February 2023 at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium in Turin, Italy. Torino overtook Udinese in the standings, moving to seventh place with 30 points, one more than the Friulians. In the event that the winner of the Italian Cup closes the championship in the top six positions, the position now occupied by the Grenade would be worth them access to the Conference League. The streak of consecutive useful results of Juric’s team lengthens to three, while that of the black and whites stop at two.

Torino opened the score in the 49th minute. Yann Karamoh defeated Udinese goalkeeper Marco Silvestri from very close range with a left-footed shot to the high center. The assist is by Ola Aina. The goal is ratifired after a VAR Review.

✅   Stats before the game. Turin and Udinese have not drawn in Serie A since 16 September 2018 (1-1 with goals from De Paul and Meité): since then three Friulian victories and five Granata successes, including that of the first leg (2-1 in Friuli). Torino have won in four of their last five Serie A home matches against Udinese (P1) and kept clean sheets three times in this set. Torino have drawn four of their last six league games (W1, L1), as many draws as those collected in the previous 21 Serie A games; the grenade team has not yet won at home in 2023 (D1, L1). No team has more draws than Udinese in this Serie A (eight like Empoli, Lecce and Cremonese): seven of the eight Friulian “X” signs are however contained in the last 12 league days (W1, L4).

👉 Lineup Torino (3-4-2-1): Milinkovic Savic; Djidji, Schuurs, Buongiorno; Aina, Ricci, Linetty, Vojvoda; Miranchuk, Karamoh; Sanabria.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Spezia, 17th position with 18 points and a negative goal difference of -15
Napoli, 1st position with 53 points and a positive goal difference of +33

Napoli are the sole leader and win the Serie A Week 21 game defeating Speziaon Sunday 5 February 2023 at the Alberto Picco Stadium in Spezia, Italy. Napoli commanding in the second half.  Kvaratskhelia gave the lead after converting a penalty. The doubling comes thanks to Victor Osimhen who takes advantage of the black and white defense’s sleep after a bell tower in the area kicked by Ampadu and heads ahead of Caldara and Dragowski making it 2-0. The third blue goal comes from the high pressure of Spalletti’s team, with Caldara who with a back pass serves in the area Kvaratskhelia who fakes the conclusion and serves Osimhen who only has to deposit in the net with an empty net.

Referee Marco Di Bello gave a penalty to Napoli conceded by Arkadiusz Reca following a handball. In the 46th minute, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia converted the penalty defeating Spezia goalkeeper Dragowski with a right-footed shot to the top right corner.

Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen increased the score in the 69th minute with a headed shot.

Surely, it is a brilliant season for Victor Osimhen! In the 74th minute, Osimhen scored with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. This is his 16th goal remaining top scorer.

✅  Stats before the game. Napoli, on the other hand, are an insatiable machine that produces play and results, with a more than deserved first place in the league. Four consecutive victories against Sampdoria, Juventus, Salernitana and Roma have allowed Spalletti’s team to extend the standings and move to +13 on their pursuers. Today another important opportunity to further extend as today’s evening there will be the Milan derby between Inter and Milan, the main opponents for the Scudetto fight. Spezia comes from two consecutive defeats collected against Bologna and Rome, with four goals conceded (two per match) and zero goals scored. Mbala Nzola’s injury meant a lot in terms of offensive contribution and the Juventus club resorted to the incoming market, inserting the Uzbek Eldor Shomurodov, on loan from Roma, in the squad. Spezia and Napoli have faced each other five times in their history in Serie A, with the precedents in favor of the Azzurri leading by three victories, against the two black and whites. No draw so far, therefore, between the two teams in the top Italian championship.

👉  Lineup Spezia (3-5-2): Dragowski; Ampadu, Caldara, Nikolaou; Amian, Bourabia, Esposito, Agudelo, Reca; Verde, Shomurodov.

👉  Lineup Napoli (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Kim, Mario Rui; Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski; Lozano, Osimhen, Kvaratskhelia.
