Italian Soccer Serie A
Empoli 1 – 0 Lecce
62’ Francesco Caputo (pen)
🟥 Red Card: 90′ Lorenzo Tonelli
Empoli won the Serie A Week 28 game defeating Lecce on Monday 3 April 2023 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. This is a very important victory for Empoli who hadn’t brought home the three points since January 23 against Inter. Zanetti’s team can therefore detach in the standings and climb to 31 points, three more than Salernitana, just behind. Lecce, on the other hand, has to deal with a bad period: today there are five consecutive defeats in the league, all without scoring a single goal. It, therefore, stops at 27, two more than La Spezia.
Difficult upcoming matches for both teams: for Empoli it will be the turn of the trip to San Siro, fresh from the great performance against Napoli. Lecce will meet Spalletti’s team on the twenty-ninth day of Serie A.
Empoli opened the score in the 62nd minute. Referee Michael Fabbri granted a penalty to Empoli conceded by Morten Hjulmand after a foul on Fabiano Parisi. Francesco Caputto converted the penalty defeating Lecce gaolkeeper with a right-footed shot to the center.
Caputo equals Antonio Di Natale in 5th place of the club’s top scorers in the tournament.
