Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AC Milan, 4th position with 38 points and a positive goal difference of +11
Sassuolo, 17th position with 17 points and a negative goal difference of -11

Sassuolo humiliated AC Milan and won the Serie A Week 20 game on Sunday 29 January 2023 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. Sassuolo confirmed themselves as Milan’s bete noire, once again beating San Siro after last season’s 3-1 win. This time the victory is even clearer and takes on the tone of a feat for the neroverdi. Milan collapsed in front of their fans. After the first half finished 3-1, Laurentié on penalties and Matheus Henrique rounded off the score making useless Origi’s great goal which fixed the result at 2-5. Dionisi’s team therefore finds the first victory of 2023 and certifies the crisis of Milan, jammed at 2-0 in the match against Roma and never again able to reverse the course. After the Super Cup lost against Inter, the exit from the Italian Cup against Turin and the only five points won in the league, a very black January ended in the worst possible way for Pioli’s men.

In the next round, Milan are called to react immediately against Inter, perhaps the best opportunity to rediscover enthusiasm and results. For Sassuolo, however, Atalanta is at home.

A special game for AC Milan Captain Davide Calabria making his 200th appearance with Milan

The game started with a disallowed goal for AC Milan in the 9th minute. Referee Antonio Giua disallowed Olivier Giroud’s goal after consulting the VAR.

Sassuolo opened the score in the 18th minute. Gregoire Defrel defeated AC Milan goalkeeper Tătăruşanu

Problems for AC Milan with Sassuolo increasing the score in the 20th minute.  Davide Fratesi scored with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Domenico Berardi.

AC Milan shortened the distance in the 24th minute. Forward Olivier Giroud defeated Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli with a headed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Davide Calabria.

Another slap for Milan. Sassuolo scored in the 30th minute. Forward Domenico Berardi with a headed shot to the high center. The assist is by Hamed Traorè following a corner conceded by Theo Hernández.

Poker for Sassuolo! In the 47th minute, Armand Laurienté converted a penalty for Sassuolo with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The penalty is conceded by Davide Calabria.

Sassuolo ruling in San Siro. In the 79th minute, the goal by Matheus Henrique with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Domenico Berardi.

AC Milan scored in the 81st minute. Divock Origi scored with a right-footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Junior Messias.

✅ Stats before the game. Milan have gone unbeaten in their last two matches against Sassuolo in Serie A (W1, D1) without conceding a goal – the Rossoneri have never obtained three clean sheets in a row against the neroverdi in the top flight. After the 0-0 draw on August 30, Milan and Sassuolo could draw two consecutive matches for the first time in Serie A. Sassuolo have won both of their last two away games against Milan in the league, only against Verona (four) and SPAL (three) do the neroverdi have a longer open streak away from home in Serie A. Sassuolo have recorded two draws and six defeats in their last eight league games: only once have they gone nine straight games without a win in Serie A, between December 2017 and March 2018 with Iachini on the bench.

👉  Lineup AC MILAN (4-2-3-1): Tătăruşanu; Calabria, Gabbia, Kalulu, Hernández; Tonali, Krunić; Saelemaekers, De Ketelaere, Rebić; Giroud.
