This match was memorable for Cape Verde as they made World Cup history by scoring their first-ever tournament goal, while Uruguay fought back in the second half to secure a point.

Definitely, it was a thrilling match! Cape Verde took the lead in the 21st minute when Kevin Pina scored, marking the tiny island nation's first-ever World Cup goal following a counter-attack. Just before halftime, in the 44th minute, Uruguay equalized with a goal from Maximiliano Araújo for 1-1. Then, in the 45'+6' minute, Uruguay took the lead with a goal from Agustín Canobbio during first-half stoppage time. However, Cape Verde responded and equalized by taking advantage of a defensive mistake from Uruguay's backline, famously finding the equalizer (2-2) .

Ugarte sent a threatening cross into the box, where Bentancur rose to head the ball towards the goal. His shot bounced off Cabral and struck the right post, leaving goalkeeper Vozinha helpless in his position, and the loose ball was seized by Araujo, who scored with a diving header!!

⚽️ In the 61st minute, Cape Verde leveled the score with a goal from Rete di Hélio Varela. A careless throw-in by Uruguay allowed the Maccabi Tel Aviv forward to break through and get past goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, who had ventured off his line.
