Result Netherlands vs Japan, Sunday, 14 June 2026, World Cup Group F
The Netherlands and Japan played to a 2-2 draw in their opening Group F match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. It was a disappointing outcome for the Dutch, who were favored to win. On the other hand, for Japan, it felt almost like a victory since they managed to equalize after trailing in the game.
Simply put, the Netherlands couldn't secure a win against Japan (2-2), as they equalized twice after falling behind: Nakamura and Kamada responded to goals from Van Dijk and Summerville.
The Netherlands, under the management of Ronald Koeman, comes in as a solid and technically skilled group. Unfortunately, they will miss Jurriën Timber and their first-choice goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, both of whom sustained injuries before the tournament. Memphis Depay continues to be their main offensive threat.
Japan's strength is rooted in their teamwork and disciplined tactical approach. However, they faced a major setback with the retirement of veteran midfielder Wataru Endo. Ayase Ueda is set to be the key player in their attack after an impressive qualifying campaign.
