Tough situation for Salernitana still in the last position.  Empoli won the Serie A Week 24 game on Friday 9 February 2024 at the Arechi Stadium in Salerno, Italy.  It is a tough defeat for Salernitana seeing their dream for salvation a mirage.

Tris for Empoli, Salernitana knocked out at home. The score broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute, with an own goal by Zanoli. Inzaghi’s team equalized in the 69th minute with a header from Weissman. Empoli ahead at the end of the match. Fazzini earned a penalty, converted by Niang (88′). Cancellieri on the counterattack (assisted by Niang) closes the score in the 94th minute.

In the next round, Salernitana will play the away match against Inter, Empoli will face Fiorentina at home.

What a bad luck! Empoli opened the score in the 23rd minute with an own goal by Alessandro Zanoli defeating his goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

Salernitana equalized in the 69th minute. Shon Weissman scored with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Antonio Candreva.

Empoli sealed the game in the 94th minute. Matteo Cancellieri scored with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by M’Baye Niang.

Stats before the game: The next match will be the eighth match in Serie A between Salernitana and Empoli, with the Granata having won only once previously (3D, 3P): 3-2 success, signed by a hat-trick from Marco Di Vaio, on 14 February 1999 – goals by Cerbone and Bonomi for the Azzurri. The seven matches between Salernitana and Empoli in Serie A saw both teams score on six occasions – with only the first leg being an exception, which the Tuscans won 1-0 – and recorded an average of 3.3 goals scored per game. Salernitana have drawn two of their three home games against Empoli in Serie A (1P) – conceding 2.3 goals per game on average in these matches -, including the most recent: 2-2 on 5 September 2022, under the guidance of current coach of the Azzurri, Davide Nicola. Salernitana have lost their last three home games and only once have they suffered multiple home defeats in a row in Serie A: six consecutive defeats between October 2021 and January 2022, under the guidance of Stefano Colantuono; Furthermore, the Granata are one of the three teams (with Augsburg and Hoffenheim) in the big-5 European leagues still without a clean sheet at home in 2023/24. Empoli are unbeaten in the three games played under Davide Nicola in Serie A (1W, 2D); among the six teams trained in the top flight before the Tuscans (Livorno, Crotone, Udinese, Genoa, Turin and Salernitana), only with one did the Azzurri coach avoid defeat in all the first four benches in the championship, with Torino between January and February 2021 (series reached five).

Stats before the game: Inter is the team that Juventus has beaten the most times in Serie A, on 87 occasions, with 46 draws and 48 Nerazzurri successes to complete the tally. After the 1-1 draw in the first leg, Inter and Juventus could draw both of their two league matches of the season for the first time since 2001/02 (goalless draw in the first leg at Delle Alpi and 2-2 in the return leg at the home of the Nerazzurri). Juventus won the last match played at Inter’s home in Serie A, without conceding a goal, and have not achieved two victories away from home in a row with a clean sheet against the Nerazzurri in the competition since 1977, when on the bench of the Piedmontese team Giovanni Trapattoni was there.   In 2024, Inter won each of the five matches played counting all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in the last three: in general, the Nerazzurri team has not won the first six matches played in a single calendar year since 2007, in that case with Roberto Mancini on the bench. Inter – already scoring in each of the first 21 matches played in this Serie A – could become only the second team to score at least one goal in the first 22 matches played in a single top-flight season after Juventus (who managed this in four occasions, in 1957/58, in 2005/06, in 2013/14 and in 2018/19). Juventus have won 53 points after the first 22 matches in this Serie A (16W, 5N, 1L), in all the previous 10 occasions in which the Bianconeri have collected at least as many points at this point of the major tournament they have always closed the championship on first place, the most recent in 2019/20 (always counting three points per victory). Inter (13) and Juventus (12) are the two teams that have collected the highest number of clean sheets and that, in general, have conceded fewer shots on target (60 for the Nerazzurri, 61 for the Bianconeri) and fewer goals (10 the hosts, 13 the guests) in this Serie A.

👉 INTER (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, Acerbi, Bastoni; Darmian, Barella, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; Thuram, Lautaro Martinez.

👉JUVENTUS (3-5-2): Szczesny; Gatti, Bremer, Danilo; Cambiaso, McKennie, Locatelli, Rabiot, Kostic; Vlahovic, Yildiz.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AC Milan, 3rd position with 46 points and a positive goal difference of +18
Frosinone, 14th position with 23 points and a negative goal difference of -12

AC Milan still dream of becoming a main contender for the SCudetto. AC Milan won the Serie A Week 23 game on Saturday 3 February 2024 in Frosinone, Italy. We migh say it was a much suffered victory thanks. Milan overturned the result and take home the three points. Frosinone delude themselves with Mazzitelli who mocks a surprised Maignan, Gabbia equalizes from a corner , Jovic comes off the bench and decides the result with a bird of prey goal after a carom in the area.

On the twenty-fourth matchday, Di Francesco’s team will visit Fiorentina while Pioli’s boys will face Napoli.

AC Milan opened the score in the 17th minute. Forward Olivier Giroud defeated Frosinone goalkeeper with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Rafael Leão.

Frosinone equalized in the 24th minute thanks to the penalty converted by Matías Soulé with a left-footed shot to the top left corner. The penalty was conceded by Rafael Leão following a handball.

Frosinone took the lead in the 65th minute. Luca Mazzitelli scored with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Matías Soulé.

Milan equalized in the 73rd minute. Matteo Gabbia scored from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Olivier Giroud following a corner.

Milan took back the lead in the 81st minute. Luka Jovic scored with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Stats before the game: Milan are unbeaten against Frosinone in Serie A (W3, D2), only against Pisa (12), Crotone and Lecco (both six) have the Rossoneri played more matches without ever losing in the top flight. Milan have scored twice as many goals as Frosinone in five matches against the Ciociari in the top flight: 12 to six. After five defeats in a row, Frosinone remained undefeated in the last two league matches (1W, 1D), the Ciociari have not recorded a longer streak of matches without defeat in Serie A since the period between August and September last year (five in that case ). Frosinone has collected 20 points in 11 home games this championship; adding the performance in the first 11 matches of both of the Ciociari’s previous seasons in Serie A, the points were 19 (14 in 2015/16 and five in 2018/19). Frosinone has scored 29 goals in 22 matches in this championship, exactly as many as it counted at the end of its last season in Serie A (29 goals in 38 days in 2018/19) – in fact, in 2015/16 alone (35) the Ciociari have scored the most goals in a single Serie A championship. Milan have won their last two away games in the championship, the Rossoneri have not achieved three successes away from home in a row in the same Serie A season since the period between September and October 2022 (against Sampdoria, Empoli and Verona in that case).

👉 Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Empoli, 19th position with 17 points and a negative goal difference of -21
Genoa, 11th position with 28 points and a negative goal difference of -2

Empoli are running out of time and the dream for salvation is a must. Empoli are in the 19th positionafter the Serie A Week 23 ended with a draw against Genoa on Saturday 3 February 2024 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. Empoli extend their streak of consecutive useful results to three and rise to 18 points in the standings, temporarily catching both Cagliari and Verona. For Genoa another useful result (the eighth in a row) but also a wasted opportunity from a European perspective. In fact, Genoa reaches 29 points in the standings, but could see its direct opponents extend its lead for a place in the 2024-25 European cups.

In the next round of the championship, Empoli will visit Salernitana during the match scheduled for Friday 9 February 2024. Genoa will instead find their friendly fans at Marassi again, hosting Atalanta in a match that will be played on Sunday 11 February 2024.

Stats before the game.  Genoa are unbeaten in eight matches against Empoli in Serie A (4W, 4D), only against Lucchese (14) and Ascoli (10) does Grifone have a longer open streak without defeat in the tournament. Empoli and Genoa have drawn their last three matches in Serie A, the Tuscans have never recorded more draws in a row against a single opponent in the top division. Genoa remained unbeaten in five of the six away matches against Empoli in Serie A (2W, 3D), the only success of the Tuscans at the Castellani against the Ligurians in the tournament dates back to 24 October 2015 (2-0, with Marco Giampaolo in bench). Since the arrival of Davide Nicola, Empoli have collected four points in two matches, only one coach remained unbeaten in all his first three matches at the helm of the Tuscan club in Serie A: Giuseppe Iachini between November and December 2018 (four in that case).Genoa have won two games in a row in Serie A for the first time since the period between January and February 2021, a streak of three consecutive victories with Davide Ballardini on the bench. The Ligurians could also score at least two goals in three consecutive Serie A matches for the first time since April-May 2021.
