Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Monza, 12th position with 28 points and a negative goal difference of -7
Udinese, 17th position with 18 points and a negative goal difference of -14

Udinese are under pressure to win the Serie A Week 23 game against Monza on Saturday 3 February 2024 at the Dacia Arena in Udine, Italy.  After two consecutive defeats, Udinese returns to move up the table, moving away from Empoli and, momentarily, also from Cagliari and Verona, moving one point ahead of the relegation zone. However, Monza remains in twelfth place alongside Genoa, achieving their second consecutive clean sheet, and remaining in the mid-table.

In the first half the Bianconeri became dangerous with Lucca, whose two shots were both brilliantly blocked by Di Gregorio, with Payero, with a right-footed shot that missed the target, and with Thauvin, who first failed to find he takes it with a precise left foot from an excellent position and is then stopped by another great save from the Monza goalkeeper. In the second half, opportunities were lacking until the 90th minute, when Marì headed Ciurria’s corner and Lovric saved on the line, avoiding defeat for the home team.

✅   Stats before the game: Among the teams currently in Serie A, Monza is the only one against which Udinese has never lost: a Friulian success in the first match, followed by two draws. Furthermore, in all three previous matches in the tournament, both teams have always scored. Udinese have won only one of their last 11 league matches (5N, 5L): a 3-0 success against Bologna. Furthermore, the Friulians have lost their most recent two matches and in the 2023/24 Serie A they have not yet recorded three defeats in a row. Monza won the most recent match against Sassuolo, only once in this championship have the Brianza players achieved two successes in a row: in October against Sassuolo and Salernitana. Only Salernitana (24) have conceded more goals than Udinese (19) in home matches in the 2023/24 Serie A. The Friulians have so far won only one of the 11 matches at the Bluenergy Stadium in this championship (6N, 4L), in their history in Serie A they have always recorded at least two successes after 12 home games of the season. Monza has never repeated the same result in two games in a row in the last 10 away games in the championship (3W, 3D, 4L), losing the most recent one 3-0 at Empoli.

Lecce won in grand style the Serie A Week 23 game on Friday 2 February 2024 at the Via del Mare Stadium in Lecce, Italy. A thriller ending. Lecce with a late winner goal moving into 13th position. In the 90th minute, Lecce still believed in it and overturned the result in the space of a few minutes, going from 1-2 to 3-2 with Dorgu’s final goal, his first this season. The Via del Mare explodes with all the players and the coach under the curve celebrating. Fiorentina stopped in seventh place. Fiorentina have not won in the league since 29 December against Torino.

Pietro Terracciano with a left-footed free-kick shot to the bottom left corner.

Stats before the game: Lecce have won nine of the 31 matches against Fiorentina in Serie A (11N, 11L), only against Udinese (11) have the Giallorossi achieved more successes in the top flight. Lecce and Fiorentina drew the first leg 2-2 on August 27th, only once have the two teams drawn both matches in a single Serie A season: in 1988/89, Carlo was at the helm of the Salento team Mazzone while the Viola coach was Sven-Göran Eriksson. Fiorentina have remained unbeaten in their last three away games against Lecce in Serie A (W2, D1), the Viola have never recorded four away matches without defeat against the Salento team in the tournament. Lecce have gained just one point in their last six league matches, losing all three of the most recent ones – the Giallorossi have not lost consecutive matches in Serie A since the period between February and April (six in that case). Fiorentina did not win any of the first five matches of 2024 in all competitions (2N, 3L), in the previous 20 calendar years only in 2013 had the Viola not achieved any success in the first five matches. The last time Fiorentina did not record victories in the first six matches of a single calendar year across all competitions dates back to 2002.

Inter regained the top spot after defeating Fiorentina with 54 points. It is the “iconic Toro Bull” Argentinean Lautaro Martinez to score the only goal of the match to claim the full 3 points.

Juventus stepped down to the second place with 53 points after their 1-1 draw against Empoli.  The first half saw the direct expulsion of Milik for a harsh challenge on Cerri. In the second half, Vlahovic finds the goal in front of goal, but Baldanzi freezes the Stadium with a shot from the edge of the area. Coach Davide Nicola continues his treatment, 4 points in two games, and Empoli is just one point behind Cagliari, now fourth from last.

AC Milan failed to claim the home victory ending with a draw. A brace from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and two penalties conceded by Referee Davide Massa and missed by Olivier Giroud and Theo Hernandez were not enough. Bologna snatched a point thanks to Zirkzee and a penalty from Orsolini in full injury time – awarded by VAR for a hold by the debutant Terracciano on Kristansen.

Atalanta’s overtaking mission is done after defeating Udinese. Temporarily, Atalanta are within the European zone after having achieved the fourth victory in the five matches played in 2024. Third defeat in the last four matches, however, for Udinese who thus remain just one point ahead of the relegation zone, in which they risk ending up.

The favorable moment continues for Genoa with their second consecutive victory, after the one in Salerno. Lecce, on the other hand, is suffering its third consecutive defeat and is unable to emerge from this negative period. Lecce first missed a penalty with Nikola Krstovic saved by goalkeeper Joseph Martinez. The redemption moment arrived for Krstovic scoring later the opening goal.

The pressure increased for Napoli who are out of the European zone. Lazio and Napoli ended with a goalless draw. One point for each team failed to get closer to the fourth place occupied by Atalanta. Lazio interrupted their streak of four consecutive victories in the league and moved within two points of the Champions League zone, while Mazzarri’s team catches up with Roma on 32 points, but remains in ninth place in the standings.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Inter, 2nd position with 51 points and a positive goal difference of +39
Fiorentina, 5th position with 34 points and a positive goal difference of +8

Inter took back the first position after winning the Serie A Week 22 game against Fiorentina on Sunday 28 January 2024 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy.  Inter reached 54 points followed by Juventus with 53 points in the second position.  Two matches without a win for a Fiorentina team that hasn’t won here at the Franchi since 29 December.

Inter are now motivated to face the direct clash next Sunday with Juventus as leaders in seven days despite one game less. The Nerazzurri have never lost away this season, the only knockout being the one at the hands of Sassuolo last September 26th at San Siro remains.

Inter won the first four matches played in 2024 (two in the league and two in the Super Cup): they had not started a calendar year with four wins in the first four matches since 2017 (with Stefano Pioli on the bench), when they reached five.

Inter opened the score in the 14th minute. The one and only “El Toro” Lautaro Martínez defeated Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano with a headed shot to the high center. The assist is by Kristjan Asllani with a cross following a corner conceded by Davide Faraoni.

✅     Stats before the game: Only against Milan (56), have Inter drawn more matches in Serie A than against Fiorentina (55) – 71 Nerazzurri victories and 45 Viola victories in 171 matches in the tournament complete the balance. Fiorentina have won only one of the last 13 matches against Inter in Serie A (5N, 7P): 1-0 at the Meazza on 1 April 2023, thanks to a goal from Giacomo Bonaventura; dry in the first leg (0-4), the Viola have not gone without scoring in two matches in a row against the Nerazzurri in Serie A since the 2011/12 season (0-2 and 0-0), with Delio Rossi at the helm. Inter have remained unbeaten in their last six away games against Fiorentina in Serie A: three draws which were followed by three wins; the Nerazzurri have never won four away matches in a row against the Viola in the top division. Fiorentina have not found the net in three of the last four matches played in all competitions (one of which lasted 120 minutes, against Bologna in the Italian Cup), as many matches without scoring as in the previous 14 played by the Viola. Inter have gained at least 51 points after 20 matches of the season for only the second time in their history in Serie A, the first in 2006/07 (54 in that case) – in that season the Nerazzurri also won their 21st championship match .

👉 Lineup Fiorentina (4-2-3-1): Terracciano; Faraoni, Martinez Quarta, Ranieri, Parisi; Arthur, Duncan; Ikone, Bonaventura, Nzola; Beltran.

👉 Lineup Inter (3-5-2): Sommer; Pavard, De Vrij, Bastoni; Darmian, Frattesi, Asllani, Mkhitaryan, Carlos Augusto; Thuram, Lautaro.
