Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Salernitana, 20th position with 13 points and a negative goal difference of -31
Monza, 11th position with 33 points and a negative goal difference of -5

Salernitana might be booking early their pass to Serie B next season. Salernitana lost the Serie A Week 26 game on Saturday 24 February 2024 at the Arechi Stadium in Salerno, Italy. What else to say about Salernitana and their performance? Salernitana have not won any of their last six home league matches (1N, 5P) and have always conceded at least two goals in the half: in their history in Serie A, they have never conceded more than one goal in consecutive home matches.

Salernitana are just living a nightmare.  The fifth consecutive useful result and the second victory in a row for Monza after defeating AC Milan last week. Monza also found their fourth clean sheet in the last five matches and rose to 36 points in the standings, catching Torino in tenth place (who will play at Roma on Monday). A second defeat in two matches as coach of Salernitana, however, for Fabio Liverani, with the Granata team collecting the seventh defeat in eight matches in 2024 and thus remaining seven points from the safety zone, also risking seeing the margin increase in the event of victory of Cagliari (tomorrow on the pitch against Cagliari).

Everything happened in five minutes, with Monza scoring the two decisive goals for the victory between the 78th and 83rd minutes. Raffaele Palladino’s team also started strong in the first half, hitting the post after two minutes with Djuric and coming close to taking the lead in the 6th minute with Izzo, whose deflection from close range was blocked by Ochoa. The Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was also the protagonist in the second half, when, in the 56th minute, he saved a shot from two steps by Gagliardini. Salernitana only became dangerous in the 77th minute with substitute Tchaouna, who twice had his shots blocked by Di Gregorio. A minute later, Maldini (another substitute) asks for a one-two from Gagliardini, receives the return touch in space and beats Ochoa with a right-footed shot to the far post. In the 83rd minute, Pessina also scored the final 0-2, doing well to put Di Gregorio’s clearance into the net with a lob, pushed by Djuric.

Monza opened the score in the 78th minute. Daniele Maldini defeated Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Roberto Gagliardini.

Image

The second goal happened in the 83rd minute. Matteo Pessina with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The headed assist is by Milan Djuric.

✅  Stats before the game: Monza has won four of the last five championship matches against Salernitana (1P) and in each of these successes they have scored exactly three goals; However, the Granata’s success in this partial came in the only away match played by the Brianza team in Serie A against the Campania team. Salernitana won the only previous home match played against Monza in Serie A, 3-0 on 26 February 2023; the Campania team has faced several times at home, always finding success in the competition only against Venice and Vicenza (2/2 in both cases). Monza won against Salernitana in both Serie A, Serie B and Serie C; in particular, with a success, that Campania team can become the first opponent against which the Brianza team records at least three victories both in the top championship and in the lower division. Monza have not found the net in four of their last five Serie A away games, as many games without a goal as in their previous 19 away games in the competition; in general, no team has finished more away matches in the current tournament without scoring than the Brianza team (seven, tied with Salernitana). Salernitana have lost 16 of their first 25 seasonal matches in two of the last three Serie A championships; the previous occasion, 2021/22, amounts to one of only five instances in the competition’s history where a team has avoided relegation after recording so many defeats at this point in the tournament.

Genoa and Udinese are in a safety zone. Genoa won the Serie A Week 26 game on Saturday 24 February 2024 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy. Genoa have +10 points over Udinese. Genoa reached to 33 points, 13 above the safety quota, 8 from the Europe zone. Udinese just 3 points from Hellas Verona and from the relegation zone.

Genoa closed the match in the first half with goals from Mateo Retegui and Mattia Bani. In the second half, Udinese found themselves with 10 men since the 48th minute after Thomas Thiesson Kristensen got a second yellow card.

Stats before the game: Udinese have remained unbeaten in their last 13 matches against Genoa in the top flight (6W, 7D): it is the longest unbeaten streak ever for the Friulians against a single opponent in Serie A. Genoa have not won any of the last 13 Serie A matches against Udinese (7N, 6P), drawing all the most recent four; the last longest series of consecutive matches for the Grifone without finding success was against Roma, between 2014 and 2022 (16), while they have not had five matches in a row against a single opponent in the competition since 1990, against Florentine. Genoa have won only one of the last nine home matches against Udinese in Serie A, compared to six draws and two defeats – the success in this part came on 21 February 2016, 2-1 with goals from Alessio Cerci and Diego Laxalt (Ali Adnan for the Friulians), under the management of Gian Piero Gasperini. Udinese have not won any of their last five Serie A away matches against opponents on the right side of the table at the start of the day (D3, L2) – their last away win against these teams dates back to 11 March 2023, 1-0 against Empoli, thanks to a goal by Rodrigo Becão. Genoa have lost only one of their last 10 championship games (W3, D6): 1-4 against Atalanta on February 11th, in the most recent one played at Ferraris.

Bologna dreaming of remaining within the European zone by winning the  Serie A Week 26 game at the Renato Dall’Ara in Bologna, Italy. Smell of Champions League for Thiago Motta’s surprising Bologna. Fifth consecutive victory for Bologna, Verona, on the other hand, reaches their sixth match in a row without success.

Bologna temporarily moves into fourth place thanks to a 2-0 win over Verona. The absolute protagonist was Giovanni Fabbian who first broke the deadlock with a deflection in front of goal following a corner kick, and in the second half he served the ball to Freuler to make it 2-0. In the final great save by Skorupski on Henry.

✅     Stats before the game: Verona has not lost any of the last four matches against Bologna in Serie A (2W, 2D), even if, more generally, five of the last nine meetings between these two teams have ended in draws (two successes for part). Bologna is unbeaten in five consecutive home matches against Hellas Verona in Serie A (W3, D2), although in the most recent four they have scored just one goal per game; the last away success of the gialloblù against the rossoblù in the competition dates back to 4 April 2016, a 1-0 scored by Samir. Verona won only two of the six matches played in Serie A on Friday (4P), precisely on the two occasions in which they faced Bologna on this day of the week: 2-1 both on 21 January 2022 and on 21 April 2023. Bologna have won each of their last four league matches; the last time they recorded a longer streak of consecutive successes in Serie A dates back to May 1967, when they reached six under the management of Luis Carniglia.

Italian Soccer Serie A

👉    Hello, my friends. Here are the 2023-2024 Italian Serie A Week 25 RESULTS / Twenty-fifth Round on Friday 16, Saturday 17, and Sunday 18 February 2024. Without a doubt, Inter are having a great season!  Inter is the sole leader with 63 points after crushing Salernitana with a 4-0.  Salernitana are in the last position with only 13 points.

It seems Inter are running alone at high speed.  Juventus wasted their chance to keep up the race for the Scudetto after another draw against Hellas Verona.  Juventus risk losing the third position too. Juve are -9 points below Inter and just +2 above AC Milan in the 3rd position.  Another flop was for AC Milan who could have taken the 2nd position, yet, they lost the away game against Monza.  Good job for Monza showing character and playing without fear.  Milan played with 10 players since the 52nd minute after Luka Jovic got a red card. Still, no excuse.

Atalanta consolidated the fourth place with 45 points after beating Sassuolo. On the other hand,  Sassuolo, caught by Hellas Verona after the draw against Juventus, is now in third to last place with 20 points.

===============
Torino have kept 12 clean sheets this season in 24 games, the last time Torio had recorded at least 12 clean sheets after 24 Serie A games this season was in 1991/92 (13 in that case and third place in the standings at the end of the championship). Ivan Juric’s 100th bench with Torino in Serie A TIM, the Croatian coach is the seventh Granata coach with the most benches in the top flight.

Lautaro Martínez is the third player to score at least 20 goals for three seasons in a row in Serie A with Inter, after Giuseppe Meazza (five – from 1929/30 to 1933/34) and Stefano Nyers (four – from 1948/49 to 1951/52). Before Carlos Augusto, the last Inter defender to provide two assists in a Serie A TIM match was Yuto Nagatomo on 21 December 2011.

Considering the last two Serie A TIM seasons, Giovanni Di Lorenzo is the defender who has provided the most assists in the top flight (nine).

Genoa remained unbeaten in their first four away games of a calendar year in Serie A for the first time in the three points per win era (the last precedent dates back to 1993/94).

After three defeats in a row at the Bentegodi, Verona remained unbeaten in six of the last seven home league matches: two wins and four draws in the partial (1P).

Dušan Vlahović scored seven goals in six games played in 2024; in the last 30 seasons (since 1994/95), only one Juventus player has done better than the Serbian in his first six matches of a single calendar year in Serie A TIM: Cristiano Ronaldo with 10, in 2019/20.

Atalanta have won all of their last five matches played in Serie A TIM: this is the longest streak of consecutive victories for the Dea since the one recorded between November and December 2021 (six in that case).

In the last three seasons, Mario Pašalić (22) and Teun Koopmeiners (21) are the two midfielders who have scored the most goals in Serie A TIM.

Bologna have scored 45 points in the first 25 games of a Serie A season for the first time in the three points per win era (since 1994/95).

Felipe Anderson played his 100th consecutive Serie A TIM match since his return to Lazio in 2021/22: he is the only player to always appear in the competition in the last three seasons.

M’Baye Niang is the first Empoli player capable of scoring in his first two appearances for the Tuscan club in Serie A in the three points for a win era.

Empoli for the first time remained unbeaten at home against Fiorentina for four consecutive matches (W2, D2) in Serie A. 1-1 is the most frequent score between these two teams in the competition (six times).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AC Milan, 3rd position with 52 points and a positive goal difference of +20
Monza, 11th position with 30 points and a negative goal difference of -7

What a flop for AC Milan wasted the chance to take the 2nd position.  Monza with a prestigious victory won the Serie A Week 25 game freezing Milan on Sunday 18 February 2024 at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, Italy.

Everything worked in favor for Monza who took the lead at the end of the first half with the penalty converted by Matteo Pessina. Dany Mota’s curling shot which gave Monza a double lead at half-time. At the beginning of the second half, the Rossoneri remained with ten men due to the expulsion of Luka Jovic in the 52nd minute. A ray of hope appeared when Milan got back into the game with the new arrivals: first Olivier Giroud shortens in a split and then Christian Pulisic finds the equalizer. Monza, however, did not give up and took the lead again with Warren Bondo’s first goal in Serie A. In the final, Milan rushed forward but also conceded a fourth goal on the counterattack by Lorenzo Colombo. BAM! Way to go for Monza and a big flop for Milan.

Monza took the lead in the 45th minute. Matteo Pessina converted a penalty with a left-footed shot. The penalty was conceded by Malick Thiaw.

Wow, what a headache for the Rossoneri. Monza scored another goal before ending the first half. Dany Mota scored with a right-footed shot
to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Andrea Colpani.

Milan shortened the distance in the 64th minute. Forward Olivier Giroud defeated Monza goalkeeper Alessandro Sorrentino with a leftleft-footed footed shot to the bottom left corner. The headed assist is by Christian Pulisic.

Christian Pulisic equalized for the 2-2 in the 88th minute.

A cold shower for Milan and party for Monza. In the 89th minute, there it is a winning goal by Warren Bondo delighting the local fans.

Monza sealed the victory in the 95th minute. Lorenzo Colombo just put the words “the end” scoring with a right oted shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Matteo Pessina.

Stats before the game: Milan have won each of the first three matches against Monza in Serie A: in their history in the competition they have finished with success every time first four matches only against Ancona, Cremonese, Messina and Pro Vercelli. Milan is, together with Atalanta, one of the two teams against which Monza has not yet collected any points in Serie A (three defeats out of three against both). Monza is the only team that has not yet managed to find victory in this Serie A against opponents currently in the top half of the table: for the Brianza team four points in these matches, the result of four draws and seven defeats. Milan have scored exactly three goals in each of their last three league away games, against Empoli, Udinese and Frosinone: the Rossoneri have never scored more than two goals in four away games in a row during a Serie A season (in general , in their entire history they succeeded in 1964, but between two separate tournaments). Monza have kept a clean sheet in each of their last three league games (the last two of which were 0-0 draws against Udinese and Hellas Verona) and have never recorded a longer run of consecutive clean sheets in Serie A.

👉 Lineup MONZA (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio; Birindelli, Izzo, Marí, Carboni A.; Gagliardini, Pessina; Carboni V., Colpani, Mota; Đurić.

👉 Lineup AC MILAN (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Florenzi, Thiaw, Gabbia, Hernández; Bennacer, Adli; Chukwueze, Loftus-Cheek, Okafor; Jović.
