Sassuolo and Empoli a direct clash to avoid falling down to the relegation zone. Empoli won the Serie A Week 26 game on Saturday 24 February 2024 at the Mapei Stadium in Sassuolo, Italy. No team has obtained fewer points in Serie A than Sassuolo from the beginning of December to today: just five (like Frosinone and Salernitana); however, considering only home matches, the neroverdi have avoided defeat in four of the last six championship matches (W1, D3).

Sassuolo’s negative moment therefore continues as they have not won in the league since January 6th against Fiorentina and, above all, remain tied with Verona on 20 points, now also risking being caught or overtaken by Cagliari. Empoli, on the other hand, makes a great leap forward, reaching 25 points with the simultaneous overtaking, albeit momentary, of Frosinone, Udinese and Lecce. Davide Nicola is managing yet another miracle after taking over during the current season.

Empoli extends their streak of useful results by taking their third victory in the last six championship matches, Sassuolo remains in the tunnel and now risks a lot in terms of survival. The match was decided by Simone Bastoni, perfect in the header that condemned the neroverdi in injury time of a pyrotechnic second half. After the first half, which was closed by the guests thanks to Luperto’s goal, Pinamonti equalized from a penalty, then Niang brought the Tuscans back ahead, again from the spot, but Ferrari regained the equalizer in the 77th minute before the denouement in favor of Nicola’s men.


✅Stats before the game: Empoli have lost each of their last two Serie A matches against Sassuolo, after having won three of the previous four (1P); in particular, after the 3-4 defeat in the first leg of this championship, the Tuscans could find defeat in both seasonal matches in the tournament against the Neroverdi for the first time since 2016/17. The match between Empoli and Sassuolo is the match that has occurred the most times in the history of Serie A without ever seeing a draw: in 13 previous matches there have been eight successes for the black-greens against five in favor of the blues. Sassuolo have won five of their previous six home matches against Empoli in Serie A (1P); only against Genoa (six) have they found more home successes in the competition. Empoli have lost only two of their last seven Serie A away games (2W, 3D) and in particular they won the most recent one, against Salernitana – the last time the Tuscans found success in two away matches in a row in the competition dates back to October 2021, when the first was against Salernitana and the second against Sassuolo.
