Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lecce, 14th position with 29 points and a negative goal difference of -22
Empoli, 16th position with 28 points and a negative goal difference of -22

Lecce won the battle for salvation in the Serie A Week 32 game on Saturday 13 April 2024 at the Via del Mare Stadium in Lecce, Italy. Lecce reached 32 points in 13th position, 6 points from third-last place. Things are getting complicated for Empoli who instead remain stuck at 28, just two points more from the red zone where many are still stuck on matchday 31.

In the first half, after just 5 minutes, a goal against Empoli was disallowed due to a foul by Caprile at the start of the action. Goalkeeper protagonist on many occasions, especially in the second half with a diving save on Baschirotto. At the end, the newly introduced Pierotti steals the ball from Walukiewicz and serves his teammate Sansone: all alone in front of the goal he makes no mistakes and takes the lead in the 90th minute.

Lecce finally claimed the victory in the 89th minute. The goal by Nicola Sansone defeating Empoli goalkeeper Elia Caprile from very close range with a left-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Santiago Pierotti.

Stats before the game: Lecce and Empoli have drawn four Serie A matches, including the most recent, in the first leg, but have never shared the stakes twice in a row in the competition.  In all four Serie A matches between Lecce and Empoli at the Apulian home ground, both teams scored; 12 goals in total, an average of three per game. Lecce have scored just two goals in their last eight games played in Serie A, remaining without a goal six times in this period and also conceding an average of almost two goals per game in the period (15 goals conceded in eight matches). Lecce have failed to score in all of their last three Serie A home games; the only other team with such a long goalless home run in the competition is Varese (with their last home game played in the competition in 1975). In the last round success against Torino (3-2), Empoli scored three goals after a series of four dry matches in Serie A; the Tuscans are looking for a second consecutive victory in the championship, which has been missing since May 2023, in that case under the technical guidance of Paolo Zanetti.

Italian Soccer Serie A

👉    Hello, my friends. Here are the 2023-2024 Italian Serie A Week 31 RESULTS / Thirty-first Round on Friday 5, Saturday 6, Sunday 7, and Monday 8 April 2024.  Inter is the sole leader with 82 points followed by AC Milan in the 2nd position with  68 points.  Inter have a +14 lead and are closer to the 20th Scudetto in their history.

Inter beat Udinese in the very last minute, the 95th, to conquer the 3 points and just seeing the Scudetto around the corner.  Inter struggled to win after Udinese took the lead but never gave up.

We have only 7 more games and, most likely, Inter will snatch the Scudetto from Napoli the defending Champions.  Inter are on a solo run.  The two-way race for the second position is between AC Milan and Juventus. Milan have a +6 lead over Juventus.

The good news is for Empoli because they left the relegation zone after defeating Torino!!!!! Empoli climbed from the 18th to the 16th position.

Roma are having a “Sunny Day” after winning the Derby della Capitale beating Lazio with a 1-0.  Roma with 55 points remain in the 5th position within the  European zone.  The bad news is for Lazio: they are in the 8th position with 46 points.

Napoli overturned the result claiming this important away victory to try to end the season in the best possible way and, possibly, with qualification for Europe or the Conference League. For Monza, however, the chances of joining the European train probably vanish today but the satisfaction of another season in the top flight.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Juventus, 3rd position with 59 points and a positive goal difference of +20
Fiorentina, 10th position with 43 points and a goal difference of  +8

Juventus with the chance to keep up the race to get back  the second position. Mission accomplished, Juventus won the Serie A Week 31 on Sunday 7 April 2024 at the Allianz Stadium  in Turin, Italy.   Juventus celebrating after the success in the Italian Cup, in the first leg of the semi-finals, the victory also returns in the championship which brings the Bianconeri to 62 points, +4 from Bologna.  Fiorentina remains stuck in tenth place with 43 points.

Juventus returned to victory thanks to Federico Gatti’s goal in the first half, capable of being found in front of goal for the most classic of tap ins. Juventus also saw three goals disallowed, all due to offside, but in the second half it was Fiorentina who increased the pace and came close to scoring the equalizer with Gonzalez hitting a curling shot from the edge of the box onto the crossbar. Fiorentina, after the latest negative results, have lost contact with the European zone and are now in tenth place.

Juentus took the lead in the 21st minute. Federico Gatti defeated Fiorentina goalkeeper from very close range with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner following a corner.

✅  Stats before the game:  Juventus have won the last two matches against Fiorentina in Serie A, without conceding a goal; under the guidance of the same coach, they have already managed to beat Viola three times in a row, always keeping a clean sheet, the most recent between 2017 and 2018 with Massimiliano Allegri. Juventus have won 11 of the last 12 home matches against Fiorentina in Serie A (1P), keeping a clean sheet in four of the last six. Despite having won only two of the last seven matches against Juventus in Serie A (2D, 3L), Fiorentina have never conceded more than one goal per game in this part against the Bianconeri – the last time it happened in the away defeat by 3-0 on 2 February 2020. Considering only the second round, Juventus and Fiorentina would be in the lower part of the Serie A table: the Vecchia Signora 11th with 13 points in 11 games and the Viola 16th with an average of exactly one point per match (10 in 10 games played) . Juventus has a gap of at least 20 points from the top of the table after 30 seasonal matches for the second time in the history of Serie A (Juventus 59 and Inter 79 in 2023/24), after 1955/56 (Juventus 28 points and Fiorentina in 1st place with 48).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Atalanta, 6th position with 50 points and a positive goal difference of +22
Cagliari, 17th position with 27 points and a negative goal difference of -21

Cagliari won the Serie A Week 31 game beating Atalanta on Sunday 7 April 2024 at the Sardegna Arena in Cagliari, Italy. Ranieri’s team moves to +4 from the relegation zone, overcoming four teams (Hellas Verona, Empoli, Udinese and Lecce). Atalanta, on the other hand, moves away from the fifth place defended by Roma, with five points now dividing the two teams.

The match breaks the deadlock in the 13th minute when Lookman crosses low towards the center from the left-handed lane where Scamacca anticipates Scuffet with his tip, putting a dig into the net. Cagliari responded in the 42nd, with Shomurodov catching Augello in the area, who finished first-time with the left-footed shot, beating Carnesecchi centrally. In the second half the match saw the balance prevail but in the final, precisely in the 88th minute, Viola displaces Carnesecchi with a header towards the left post. The goal from Cagliari’s number 10 is the one that is worth the three points.

Atalanta took the lead in the 13th minute. Gianluca Scamacca defeated Cagliari goalkeeper with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Ademola Lookman.

Cagliari equalized in the 40th minute. Tommaso Augello defeated Atalanta goalkeeper Carnesecchi with a left footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Eldor Shomurodov.

Cagliari sealed the victory in the 88th minute. The goal by Nicolas Viola with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Zito Luvumbo.

Stats before the game: Atalanta have won five of the last six matches against Cagliari in Serie A (1P), scoring exactly two goals on average per game in this part, for an aggregate score of 12-5. Atalanta have won each of their last four away matches against Cagliari in Serie A – all under the guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini – and in their history in the top flight they have never achieved five away successes in a row against a single opponent. Cagliari have lost only one of their last six games in Serie A (2W, 3D), after a series of four consecutive defeats in which they had conceded an average of three goals per game, dropping to one goal per match in the next six matches. The match against Cagliari will be the third consecutive away match faced by Atalanta in Serie A, after the 2-2 against Juventus and the 3-0 success in Naples; since the beginning of 2024, the Dea have only lost away from home at Inter on 28 February (2W, 3N complete the partial).

👉 Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Monza, 11th position with 42 points and a negative goal difference of -5
Napoli, 8th position with 45 points and a positive goal difference of +8

Monza humiliated after losing the Serie A Week 31 game against Napoli on Sunday 7 April 2024 at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, Italy. Monza had the lead and could not hold the victory. Napoli overturned the result claiming this important away victory in order to try to end the season in the best possible way and, possibly, with qualification for Europe or the Conference League. For Monza, however, the chances of joining the European train probably vanish today but the satisfaction of another season in the top flight.

A sensational second half for Napoli after equalizing with an imperious break from Victor Osimhen in the 55th minute and took the lead two minutes later with a left-footed volley from Matteo Politano. Piotr Zielinski scores the hat trick in the 61st minute with another left-footed shot from the edge a minute before Andrea Colpani made it 2-3. After a very good chance for Osimhen, stopped by Di Gregorio, Raspadori took care of closing the match with a tap-in after a shot by Di Lorenzo, 21 seconds after entering the pitch. In the final the pace drops on both sides and the Campania team get three points which they had lacked in the league since March 3 against Juventus.

Monza took the lead in the 9th minute. Milan Djuric defeated Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Alessio Zerbin.

Napoli equalized in the 55th minute. Forward Victor Osimhen defeated Monza goalkeeper with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Frank Anguissa.

Mamma Mia! Napoli overturning the result and took the lead in the 57th minute. Matteo Politano scored with a left footed shot to the top right corner.

Surely, Napoli woke up! Just few minutes after Politano’s goal, there you go…. In the 61st minute, Piotr Zielinski scored with a left footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Monza shortened the distance again in the 62nd minute. Andrea Colpani scored with a left footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Samuele Birindelli.

The final coup! Napoli with a poker in the 68th minute. Giacomo Raspadori scored from very close range with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner.

✅   Stats before the game: In the three matches played so far in Serie A, Monza and Napoli have never repeated the same result: a home win each and a draw, which came in the first leg (0-0, 29 December 2023). After never having beaten Napoli in the first six home matches (D3, L3), played between Serie B and the Italian Cup between 1962 and 1999, Monza won the most recent home match in Serie A: 2-0 on the 14th May 2023, with goals from Dany Mota and Andrea Petagna. Monza have won four of their last six matches in Serie A (2L), collecting the same successes achieved in the previous 16 matches played in the league (6N, 6P) – however, they lost the most recent match, on the pitch of Torino (0- 1).  Napoli have obtained 45 points after 30 seasonal matches in Serie A, they had not had such a poor performance at this point in the championship since the 2009/10 season, when with exactly the same haul of points as this year they closed the tournament in sixth place.
