Sassuolo, 19th position with 26 points and a negative goal difference of -23

Sassuolo running out of time for salvation and failed to win the Serie A Week 33 game against Lecce on Sunday 21 April 2024 at the Mapei Stadium in Sassulo, Italy. Lecce conquered the Mapei reaching to 35 points and could be worth a good chunk of survival. Sassuolo collects their 19th knockout. in the championship and thus remains second to last in the standings, with only 26 points.

Since Luca Gotti’s arrival, Lecce have kept a clean sheet in three out of four matches, while they had only obtained two clean sheets in the previous 28 matches with Roberto D’Aversa on the bench this championship.

In the next round of the championship, Sassuolo will be guests of Fiorentina and Lecce will host Monza.

Lecce opened the score in the 11th minute. Valentin Gendrey defeated Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli with a headed shot to the center. The assist is by Remi Oudin.

Lecce doubled the score in the 15th minute. Patrick Dorgu scored with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Antonino Gallo.

Total chaos for Sassuolo. Lecce with another goal in the 61st minute, a goal by Roberto Piccoli with a left footed shot to the center. The assist is by Nikola Krstovic.

Stats before the game: Sassuolo have achieved three wins and two draws in five Serie A matches against Lecce and in the competition they have only faced SPAL more often (6: 4W, 2D) among the teams against which they have never lost. Sassuolo won their first two Serie A home matches against Lecce, who could become the fourth team beaten by the neroverdi in their first three home matches in the competition, after Crotone, Empoli and Milan. Sassuolo have drawn their last three Serie A matches, as many times as in the previous 19 league matches (W3, L13); only once have they achieved four draws in a row in the competition (April 2018 – the third against Milan in that case too). Sassuolo have remained unbeaten in their last three Serie A home games (W1, D2) and have not done better in the competition since last May (W4, D2) – in particular Davide Ballardini could become the first coach to remain unbeaten in his first four games in home in the top league on the black-green bench.
