Serie A Standing BEFORE the game
AC Milan, 2nd position with 74 points and a positive goal difference of +29
Torino, 10th position with 50 points and a positive goal difference of +1

Torino won the Serie A Week 37 on Saturday 18 May 2024 at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium in Turin, Italy. The great news for Torino because they overtakook Napoli in ninth place, just one point behind Fiorentina who however has one match less than the Granata. If Juric’s men fail to overtake the Viola, to participate in the next Conference League they will have to hope for the victory of the Italian team in the final of the same competition, scheduled for May 29th. Milan remains at 74 points but second place was already certain before today’s match.

Toro scored the hat trick in the very first moments of the second half thanks to Ricardo Rodriguez’s gem and effectively closes the match at the Olimpico. Milan shortened in the 55th minute with Bennacer on a penalty kick awarded by Pulisic but then failed to fully return to the match, even after the entry of Leao and Giroud. The hope of qualifying for the next Conference League therefore remains alive for the Granata, while Milan instead suffered their seventh defeat in the championship.

Torino took the lead in the 26th minute. Duván Zapata defeated AC Milan goalkeeper with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Ricardo Rodríguez. Zapata has scored the joint-most headed goals in the big-5 European leagues this season: eight (along with Harry Kane).

Chaos for Milan. Torino scored another goal in the 40th minute. Ivan Ilic scored with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Raoul Bellanova.

Torino are having a great time. In the 46th minute, Ricardo Rodríguez scored with a left footed shot from outside the box to the top left corner.

AC Milan shortened the distance in the 55th minute. Ismaël Bennacer defeated Torino goalkeeper after converting a penalty with a left footed shot to the bottom right corner. The penalty was conceded by Adam Masina after a foul on Christian Pulisic.

✅   Stats before the game: Milan have won six of their last eight Serie A matches against Torino (N1, L1), as many successes as in the previous 17 matches against the Granata in the tournament (N9, L2). In general, the balance of the 155 matches between the two teams in the competition is 65 victories for the Rossoneri against 34 for the Granata and 56 draws. Torino have won three of their last five home matches against Milan in Serie A (1N, 1L), as many victories as in the previous 24 home matches against this opponent in the competition (16N, 5L). After four consecutive league matches without a goal, Torino scored two in the last round of Serie A, winning 2-1 against Hellas Verona; the granata could win two matches in a row in the tournament by scoring at least two goals for the first time since October 2022 (two in that case, the second of which against Milan). Since the beginning of 2024, Milan have scored at least three goals in nine of the 18 matches played in Serie A: only Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal (10) have scored three goals more times in separate matches compared to the Rossoneri (nine) in this period in top five European championships. Milan have drawn their last two away games in Serie A and have not achieved three consecutive “X” signs in the competition since the period between November and December 2018, in that case three with Gennaro Gattuso on the bench.

Italian Soccer Serie A

👉    Hello, my friends. Here are the 2023-2024 Italian Serie A Week 36 RESULTS / Thirty-sixth Round on Friday 10, Saturday 11, Sunday 12, and Monday 13 May 2024.

Inter won the 2023-2024 Italy’s Champions winning the Scudetto last week after defeating AC Milan in the Milan Derby.   Inter’s 20th Italian league title and earn the Nerazzurri a second star on their shirts.

Frosinone was crushed and humiliated.    Inter recovered after losing last week against Sassuolo.  Frosinone remains just two points ahead of the relegation zone, awaiting the matches of their direct competitors. Di Francesco’s team will play for salvation in the last two matches against Monza and Udinese.   Inter reached 92 points.

AC Milan crushed Cagliari with a 5-1 in San Siro.   This is a delicate moment for Milan despite the arithmetic placement in the Champions League having already arrived a few weeks ago.   Even today the fans did not support the team as a sign of protest asking for investments for the near future. One of the banners displayed read: “We demand and deserve a strong and winning club Anything but a trivial match for Cagliari failed to find oxygen to save themselves. The rossoblù are floating in 15th place with 33 points, only 3 more than Udinese who are currently the team to take as a reference for the relegation zone.

One of the upsets is Napoli losing the home game against Bologna. It is the eighth consecutive useful result for Bologna, who are ever closer to qualifying for the Champions League, which would be mathematical if Roma were unable to beat Atalanta. However, Napoli’s negative period continues, as they suffer their second defeat in the last four games and risk being overtaken in the standings by Fiorentina, a point behind but with two games less.

The good news is also for Udinese because after defeating Lecce they abandoned the relegation zone. Udinese climbed from the 18th to the 15th position with 33 points.  The bad news here is for Empoli because they lost the game with Lazio and went down to the relegation zone in the 18th position.

The balance in the tournament between the two teams leans in favor of the Giallorossi with 54 successes against the 30 of the Bergamo players, complete with 39 draws. After the 1-1 draw in the first leg last January 7, Atalanta and Roma could draw both seasonal Serie A matches for the second time in the three points per win era, after 2018/19. Atalanta have won three of the last four home matches against Roma in the league (1P), as many successes for the Dea as in the previous 11 home matches against the Giallorossi in Serie A (3W, 3D, 5L).
Atalanta have gained 35 points in 16 matches at the Gewiss Stadium in this championship (11W, 2D, 3L), always considering the three points for a victory, only in 1947/48 (36) did they do better after as many home games in a season of Serie A (39 points in that case after the 17th home match).

Juventus failed to win the Serie A Week 36 game against Salernitana ending with a draw on Sunday 12 May 2024 at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, Italy. Salernitana has now arithmetically been relegated to Serie B, but is trying to close this championship to the best of its ability. Juventus will now have to wait for the result of this evening’s match between Atalanta and Roma. If the Giallorossi did not win in Bergamo, the Bianconeri would automatically qualify for the Champions League.

Salernitana ended the first half with the lead thanks to Pierozzi’s goal, who headed the ball into the net from the corner taken by Sambia. Juventus attempted a comeback in the second half, finding the equalizer in full injury time. Corner by Iling-Junior towards the near post where Locatelli extends with his heel: on the second Rabiot emerges and scores with the left-footed winger.

Salernitana surprised Juventus by opening the score in the 27th minute. Niccolò Pierozzi defeated Juventus goalkeeper with a headed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Junior Sambia with a cross following a corner conceded by Daniele Rugani.

Juventus equalized in the 92nd minute. Adrien Rabiot scored with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Manuel Locatelli following a corner conceded by Federico Fazio.

✅   Stats before the game: Juventus have won six of the nine matches against Salernitana in Serie A (2N, 1P), including the two most recent; the Bianconeri have never achieved three successes in a row against the Campania region in the tournament. Juventus is unbeaten in the four home games against Salernitana in Serie A (3W, 1D), with an overall score of 9-2; however, the most recent match between the two teams at the Allianz Stadium ended 2-2, on 11 September 2022. In case of victory against Salernitana, Juventus will be arithmetically qualified for the next edition of the Champions League. In that case, the Bianconeri will participate in their 24th different Champions League season, at least three more than any other Italian team (Milan 21, including 2024/25). In 2024, only Heidenheim (nine) have drawn more matches than Juventus (eight out of 17) in Europe’s top five leagues. The Bianconeri are coming off a streak of four draws in a row in Serie A, the last time they recorded a longer draw in the tournament dates back to the period between April and May 2009, with Claudio Ranieri as coach.
