 Venezia on a sprint race failed to win the Serie A Week 28 game to dream with salvation on Sunday 6 March 2022 at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium in Venice, Italy.  A festival all for Sassuolo conquering Venezia thanks to three penalties (Domenico Berardi’s brace and Gianluca Scamacca’s goal from 11 meters) in a match punctuated by refereeing episodes that infuriated Venezia. Raspadori in goal after two minutes without being able to reverse the trend (the goals of Fiordilino and Nsame canceled for offside, penalty missed by Aramu). In the twenty-ninth round, Venezia will be protagonists of the postponement at Lazio’s home while Dionisi’s team will visit Salernitana.

Venezia have never found success in the last eight matches at Penzo in Serie A (3D, 5L), the Venetians have been unsuccessful only once in at least nine consecutive top league home games: in 1966 (11 in that case).

Sassuolo with a flash goal in the 2nd minute. It is Giacomo Raspadori to defeat Venezia goalkeeper Sergio Romero with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner.

Referee Luca Pairetto gave a penalty to Sassuolo conceded by Mattia Aramu following a handball inside the penalty area. It is forward Domenico Berardi to convert the penalty in the 17th minute with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Venezia reacted in the 39th minute. Thomas Henry defeated Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Ales Mateju. Great debut for Mateju.

It’s raining penalties… Another penalty to Sassuolo conceded by Michael Svoboda after a foul on Raspadori. In the 71st minute, Domenico Berardi converted the penalty with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner.

Venezia with a bad luck. In the 85th minute, Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli saved the penalty by Mattia Aramu.

✅   Stats before the game.  The only precedent, considering Serie A, Serie B and Coppa Italia, between Venice and Sassuolo is that of the first leg, which ended 3-1 for the neroverdi.  Sassuolo have won all their last five away games against newly promoted teams in Serie A, including the only one played so far in this league against Empoli (5-1): for the neroverdi 14 goals scored in this set. Venezia have only won one of the last 13 games played in Serie A (in February with Torino), from the 14th matchday of this championship onwards, the Venetian team is the one that has collected the fewest points in Serie A: only seven in 13 games ( 1W, 4D, 8L). Two consecutive victories for Sassuolo, which however in this championship have not yet managed to reach three successes in a row in Serie A. The Emilians, who beat Inter 2-0 in Milan in the last away match, are unable to obtain two clean sheets in a row away from home in the top division since December 2020 (three in that case).

Fiorentina failed to win the Serie A Week 28 home game against Hellas Verona ending with a draw on Sunday 6 March 2022 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy.  A balanced game that saw both teams attack a lot, with dangerous opportunities on both sides.  In the 10th minute Mr. Pum Pum Pum Piatek takes advantage of a rebound and in the area strikes Montipò for the lead, but the draw comes after ten minutes with Kevin Lasagna earning the penalty that is converted by Gianluca Caprari.

Genoa failed to win the Serie A Week 28 game against Empoli to dream with salvation on Sunday 6 March 2022 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy.  Genoa’s salvation race is therefore difficult, 18 points in the standings and Cagliari’s salvation at 25. Genoa’s victory dream then slams into the crossbar, after a powerful conclusion from Manolo Portanova touched by goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. A decidedly generous Genoa cannot find the goal and the victory: Empoli defending himself well, with a Vicar on the day.

Previously, Genoa have won four of their last six Serie A games against Empoli (2D), after not having achieved any success in the previous five (3D, 2L).  Empoli and Genoa are the only two teams that have not achieved success in the new calendar year in Serie A – in particular, there are four points for the Tuscans in 2022, fewer than any other team (six for the Ligurians).

Referee Gianluca Aureliano gave a yellow card to Genoa Coach Alexander Blessin after protesting for a penalty not granted in the 34th minute. Portanova went down in the Empoli area.  Yet, for Aureliano there are no reason s for a penalty. Mister Blassin protests and is booked.

✅  Stats before the game.  Genoa have scored at least two goals in each of their last four games against Empoli in Serie A: the last time they scored more than one goal in multiple matches in a row against a single opponent in the competition was against Lecce between the 1994 and 2011 (five). Genoa have won two of their three previous Serie A matches in which they faced Empoli with fewer points in the standings at the start of the day, drawing the remaining match (2-2 at Castellani on 5 November).  Genoa have not won any of their last eight Serie A matches played early on Sunday (2N, 6P), their last success in a lunch match dates back to March 17, 2019, 2-0 against Juventus.  Empoli have lost their last two Serie A matches; the last time he had more consecutive defeats in the competition was in December 2018 (four, against Fiorentina, Sampdoria, Torino and Inter).  Alexander Blessin is the second manager who drew all his first five games ever in Serie A in the era of three points to win, after Sinisa Mihajlovic in 2008, who won the sixth; the last coach to have impacted six consecutive games in the top league was Leonardo Semplici (between March and April 2018 with SPAL), while only once in the competition Genoa recorded six “Xs” in a row, between September and October 1992 .

Cagliari failed to win the Serie A Week 28 game defeated by Lazio on Saturday 5 March 2022 at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, Italy.  This defeat is a slap for Cagliari on their quest to get away from the relegation zone.  On the other hand, for Lazio it is a great away victory because they jumped to the 6th position to be in the European zone.  Immobile at 19′ unlocks the result on a penalty kick, at 42′ Luis Alberto, and in the second half, Felipe Anderson sealed the victory. ✅  Stats before the game.  Lazio are unbeaten in 15 Serie A matches against Cagliari (12,W 3D), for Lazio it is the longest open series without defeats against a single opponent currently in the competition.
