Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Sampdoria, 15th position with 26 points and a negative goal difference of -11
Udinese, 14th position with 26 points and a negative goal difference of -10

Udinese with an important victory win the Serie A Week 28 game defeating Sampdoria on Saturday 5 March 2022 at the Dacia Arena in Udine, Italy.  Udinese finally winning after 4 years against Sampdoria, previously have lost their last two home games against Sampdoria in Serie A, having won three of the previous four (1D); the last time the Friulians recorded more home defeats against this opponent in the competition was between 1992 and 1997 (four). Udinese found victory after a month of fasting by playing proactive football and managing the advantage well in the second half.   In the next round, Udinese will play again at the Dacia Arena against Roma while Sampdoria will play at home with Juventus.

Udinese opened the score with a flash goal in the 4th minute. It is Gerard Deulofeu to defeat Sampdoria goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone with a right-footed shot to the high center. The assist is by Roberto Pereyra.

Udinese with a sprint race scored a second goal in the 11th minute. Iyenoma Udogie slammed the bottom left corner with a left-footed shot.

Sampdoria reacted in the 13th minute shortening the distance for the 2-1. It is Francesco Caputo to defeat Udinese goalkeeper Marco Silvestri with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Maya Yoshida.

Stats before the game.  Before drawing 3-3 in the first leg of this championship, Sampdoria had won all five previous Serie A games against Udinese, with an aggregate score of 12-3.  This duel promises to be spectacular given that in the 81 Serie A matches between Udinese and Sampdoria 258 goals were scored (3.2 on average): it is the match between two teams with the highest average goal in the top league among those with at least 35 precedents.    Although there were a total of 27 draws in Serie A in 2022, Sampdoria are the only side that did not impact any matches in the period (2W, 6L).

Stats before the game.  Inter and Salernitana have never drawn in Serie A: in five previous Nerazzurri wins (including 5-0 in the first leg) and two Salernitana.  Inter have won both previous home games 2-1 against Salernitana in the league, the most recent of these on 29 November 1998 (Diego Simeone and Javier Zanetti responded to David Di Michele’s opening advantage).  Salernitana drew all the last four league games, already a record for Campania in Serie A; the last newly-promoted formation that recorded more consecutive “X” in the competition was Parma, between April and May 2019 (five). Inter have lost their last two home games in the league (against Milan and Sassuolo): the last time they failed to find success in three consecutive Serie A home matches was in April 2019 (four, against Lazio, Atalanta, Rome, and Juventus), while it has not recorded three KOs in a row in home matches since April 2013 (Bologna, Juventus and Atalanta with Stramaccioni on the bench).  Salernitana has conceded goals in all of her 12 away games in this league: only between September 1998 and March 1999 did she concede goals in several consecutive away games during a Serie A season (13).

We have new leaders!!!    Napoli overtook the first position after winning the Serie A Week 27 game against Lazio at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium.   Napoli won in extremis, in the 94th minute with the goal by Fabián Ruiz.  Napoli and AC Milan have 57 points each. Napoli took the first position for having a better goal difference +30 compared to Milan with +24.  Lazio stepped down to the 7th position with 43 points.

AC Milan lost focus failing to win against Udinese at the San Siro Stadium.   Milan with a somber performance, Udinese snatch a deserved point with a convincing recovery.  AC Milan had the lead and then let it go.  The draw is more a victory for Udinese while for Milan a total flop on their quest to increase the gap in the leadership.   On the twenty-eighth day, Milan will play against Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona while Udinese will face Sampdoria.

Inter with a flop ending the game against Genoa with a goalless draw at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.  Inter (55 points)  wasted a chance to take back the first position remaining with -2 points below AC Milan having 57 points(Iner with one game in hand).  For the moment, Inter stepped down to the 3rd position.

Salernitana ended with a draw against Bologna at the Arechi Stadium in Salerno, Italy.   The draw is not the expected result for Salernitana remaining in the last position.   Salernitana drew the fourth consecutive game for the first time in its history in Serie A.

Juventus with a sprint race defeated Empoli at the Carlo Castellani Stadium.  Juventus must climb to the top 3 positions to remain within the Champions League zone.  Empoli have not won in ten Serie A games, their longest unsuccessful streak since November 2018 (10, again under the guidance of Andreazzoli).

Atalanta humiliating Sampdoria with a poker at the Gewiss Stadium.  It is a fundamental victory for Gasperini’s men who had not managed to win three points in Serie A since last January 9 (6-2 against Udinese). Then three draws (against Inter, Lazio and Juve) and two defeats (with Cagliari and Fiorentina) had slowed down Atalanta’s Champions race but the victory against Sampdoria allows the Nerazzurri to move to -3 from Juve, now in fourth place ( and the Nerazzurri will have to recover the match against Turin).

Sassuolo defeated Fiorentina at the Mapei Stadium.   A superb victory for Sassuolo grabbing the winning goal in the 94th minute.  Sassuolo have lost only one of their last eight Serie A matches against Fiorentina (1-2 in October 2019)

Cagliari defeated Torino at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium.  Cagliari needed these precious 3 points to avoid falling down in the relegation zone.   Fresh from one victory and three draws, Cagliari’s big blow at the Olimpico, won with a score of 2-1 thanks to the goals by Raoul Bellanova and Alessandro Deiola. Torino failed to win the home game breaking their previous unbeaten record in 12 of their last 14 matches (7W, 5D) against Cagliari in Serie A. Cagliari provisionally goes to +3 on the relegation zone. Torino remain firm in eleventh place with 33 points collected in 26 games.

Hellas Verona won the Derby del Veneto in grand style defeating Venezia at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium.  The hero is Argentinean forward Giovanni Simeone “the Cholito” who returns to scoring after two and a half months and does it great with a hat-trick!   Simeone scoring now a total of 15 goals this season (his A record), becoming the Argentine footballer who has scored the most goals in the five major European leagues.   Venezia, the negative streak continues, with only 1 win in the last 13 games.

Spezia needed to win the game against at the Alberto Picco Stadium.  The victory for Roma helped them to climb towards the European zone.   Forward Tammy Abraham converted a penalty in the 99th minute to claim all 3 points.  With Mourinho disqualified in the stands, Roma in numerical superiority since the 45th minute, they waste a lot, hit four poles, but in the end, they bring home the three points and hook Atalanta in fifth place (two games less) at 44 points. Spezia remain with 26 points.   In the next round, Roma-Atalanta and Juventus-Spezia.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Atalanta, 6th position with 44 points and a positive goal difference of +16
Sampdoria, 15th position with 26 points and a negative goal difference of -7

Atalanta win the Serie A Week 27 game humiliating Sampdoria with a poker on Monday 28 February 2022 at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy. For Sampdoria, on the other hand, it is a heavy knockout in terms of salvation: Marco Giampaolo’s team, in fact, remains stationary at 26 points in the standings, together with Udinese and Spezia and +4 over Venezia in third last place (and with the match against the Salernitana still to be played).

Atalanta opened the score in the 6th minute. Mario Pašalić defeated Sampdoria goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone with a headed shot to the center. The assist is by Remo Freuler.

It’s party time! The Birthday Boy Teun Koopmeiners celebrating his birthday with a goal for the 2-0 with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Matteo Pessina.

Atalanta just humiliated Sampdoria with a poker in the 86th minute. Aleksey Miranchuk with a left-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Remo Freuler.

Stats before the game.  This is the 100th match between Atalanta and Sampdoria in Serie A; the blucerchiati have won 39 games against the Goddess (31D, 29L): only against Roma do they have more successes (40) in the tournament.  Atalanta have won four of their last six matches (1D, 1L) against Sampdoria in Serie A, after having only won one in the previous six (1D, 4L). In the last 13 Serie A matches between Atalanta and Sampdoria, at the home of the Bergamo side, there was only one draw: 0-0 in March 2013; seven successes of the Goddess, against five of the Sampdoria complete the set. However, Sampdoria have won three of the four most recent away matches (1L) of the league against Atalanta. After a series of six wins in a row in the league, Atalanta have won only one of their last eight Serie A games (4N, 3P): 6-2, against Udinese in January; the Goddess could also record at least six consecutive unsuccessful matches in the tournament for the first time since October 2018 (seven in that case). Sampdoria have lost their last three away games in the league, without scoring any goals: since February 2011 they have not had a longer series of consecutive defeats away from home in Serie A, remaining without goals (five in that case).

👉Lineup Atalanta (3-4-2-1): Musso; Toloi, Palomino, De Roon; Hateboer, Koopmeiners, Freuler, Zappacosta; Pessina; Malinovskyi, Boga.

👉Lineup Sampdoria (3-4-1-2): Falcone; Ferrari, Magnani, Colley; Conti, Thorsby, Eldal, Murru; Sensi; Quagliarella, Caputo
