Fiorentina is on a fast track to secure a spot in the European zone. Yet, the Serie A Week 21 ended with a draw on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy. Fiorentina found themselves tied at 1-1 with Torino, even with an extra player after Ali Dembele’s red card. Moise Kean initially put Torino ahead, but Gineitis managed to level the score following a significant mistake by Comuzzo, who lost possession during the build-up.

Torino Coach Vanoli suspended, Godinho on the bench.

Torino is down to 10 players now. In the 33rd minute, Ali Dembélé received his second yellow card for a foul on Michael Folorunsho.

Fiorentina went ahead in the 38th minute when Moise Kean found the net with a powerful header into the top right corner. Colpani delivered a fantastic volley into the box, and while Milinkovic Savic managed to stop Torino’s efforts, he was helpless against the Italian international’s headed finish!

Torino leveled the score at 1-1 in the 70th minute when Gvidas Gineitis found the back of the net with a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner. It was a glaring mistake by the Fiorentina defense, as Comuzzo misplayed the ball just outside the area, allowing the granata to capitalize and score!  Gineitis, a Lithuanian midfielder born in 2004, scored his first goal in Serie A and as a professional player. He was brought to Italy by Ruggero Ludergnani, who was a skilled youth sector manager at Spal.

✅ Stats before the game

Torino has achieved 50 victories against Fiorentina in Serie A (D51 L50), making them the team with the most wins in this matchup. However, the Granata have only managed to secure two wins in their last 10 encounters with the Viola (D3 L5). On the other hand, Fiorentina has successfully kept a clean sheet in their last three Serie A matches against Torino (W2 D1), matching the number of clean sheets they had in the previous 14 games.

The Viola hasn’t recorded four consecutive clean sheets against the Granata since the period from February 1968 to October 1969. After an impressive streak of eight straight Serie A victories (as seen in 1960), Fiorentina is currently without a win in their last five league matches (D1 L4), marking their worst performance since January to February 2023, when they went six games without a win (four losses and a draw).

Additionally, Fiorentina has lost their last two home Serie A matches, equaling the number of defeats they had in their previous 21 games (W13 D6), and they haven’t experienced a worse home stretch since suffering three consecutive losses between January and February 2005.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Napoli, 1st position with 47 points and a positive goal difference of +20
Atalanta, 3rd position with 43 points and a positive goal difference of +23

Napoli triumphed over Atalanta with a score of 3-2 in the Serie A Week 21 match held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy. This victory marks Napoli’s sixth straight win in the league, solidifying their top position with 50 points, while Atalanta remains in third place with 43 points. Napoli is clearly leading the charge for the Scudetto, leaving the other teams trailing behind.

Retegui opened the scoring in the 16th minute, followed by Politano’s goal in the 27th minute, and McTominay extended the lead in the 40th minute. In the second half, Lookman leveled the score with a brilliant individual effort in the 55th minute, but Lukaku netted the winning goal with a header in the 78th minute, assisted twice by Anguissa.

Looking ahead, Atalanta will travel to Como for their next match, while Napoli will host Juventus.

The action starts…

Atalanta opened the scoring in the 16th minute when Mateo Retegui found the back of the net with a powerful left-footed shot into the top left corner. Napoli’s goalkeeper, Alex Meret, had no chance to stop it. The ball came to Retegui after a rebound, and he skillfully placed it under the crossbar from inside the area.

Napoli leveled the score at 1-1 in the 27th minute. Matteo Politano found the back of the net with a powerful left-footed shot aimed at the upper center. After a cross from Neres was deflected by Djimsiti, Politano skillfully controlled the ball in the box and struck it past goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi with a left-footed effort just beneath the crossbar.

Napoli turned the game around to take the advantage. In the 40th minute, Scott McTominay found the net with a powerful right-footed shot aimed at the top center. Frank Anguissa provided the assist. The play began with a clever backheel from Neres, followed by Anguissa’s setup, allowing McTominay to score past Carnesecchi from the heart of the box.

Amazing! The game is heating up once more. Atalanta has leveled the score to 2-2 in the 55th minute. Ademola Lookman found the net with a left-footed strike into the bottom right corner. Lookman showcased his skills by dancing past Di Lorenzo, making his way into the box, and firing a left-footed shot into the corner, leaving Meret with no opportunity to save it.

Bim, bam, boom! Napoli has done it again, turning the game around in the 78th minute. Romelu Lukaku, the Belgian forward, found the back of the net with a powerful header right in the center. The assist came from Frank Anguissa, who delivered a perfect cross for Lukaku to nod in from just a few steps away from the goal.

Stats before the game

Atalanta has secured victories in their last two Serie A encounters with Napoli, both ending in a 3–0 scoreline. The last time the Bergamo side managed to win three consecutive matches against the Partenopei was from April 1997 to February 1998, when they achieved three straight 1–0 victories under coach Emiliano Mondonico. However, Atalanta has faced challenges at home, losing their last three Serie A matches against Napoli, marking the longest losing streak at home against a single opponent in this competition.

The last time they experienced four or more consecutive home losses was against Juventus, spanning from January 2005 to March 2016, totaling nine defeats before Gian Piero Gasperini took charge.

Buy Serie A tickets

Atalanta are unbeaten in their last 15 league matches (11W, 4D), but have drawn all of their last three; only between January and July 2020 have the Bergamo team collected more consecutive games without defeat (17 in that case – 13W, 4D) and they have not drawn four consecutive games since the period between April and May 2015.

Atalanta have scored in all of their last 25 home games in Serie A (63 goals, 2.5 on average per game), already a record streak for the Bergamo team in the competition; only Inter (32) have a longer open streak of home games with goals.

Napoli have won their last five Serie A games, the three most recent without conceding a goal; under Antonio Conte, the Neapolitans have never gone beyond three clean sheets in a row, nor beyond five consecutive wins.

Napoli have won seven of their first 10 away games this season (D2 L1) and have only twice won more than seven of their first 11 away games of the season: 10 in 2017/18, when they finished in second place, and nine in 2022/23, the season they won their last Scudetto.

Player Stats

Mateo Retegui has made quite an impact in Serie A, netting 20 goals since he started competing last season, which is the highest tally for any Italian player during that time. Specifically, he has scored 13 goals in just 18 matches this season. The last Atalanta player to achieve a better single-season record was Cristiano Doni back in 2001/02, who scored 16 goals.

Meanwhile, in his last two league matches, Romelu Lukaku has contributed one goal against Fiorentina and assisted two others—one against Fiorentina and another against Hellas Verona. Notably, the Napoli striker has only managed to score in three consecutive Serie A games once before, during February and March 2021 with Inter, where he set a personal best of four.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Genoa, 11th position with 23 points and a negative goal difference of -10
AS Roma, 10th position with 24 points and a positive goal difference of +2

Roma won the Serie A Week 21 on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy. The Giallorossi triumphed thanks to goals from Dovbyk, El Shaarawy, and Leali, while Masini managed to equalize temporarily for the visitors. Dybala’s outstanding performance added flair to a convincing display by Ranieri’s Roma, who are inching closer to the European spots.

In their next match, Roma will take on Udinese, while Genoa will face Monza.

Roma gained the upper hand in the 25th minute when Artem Dovbyk found the net with a left-footed shot from close range, sending the ball into the bottom left corner. A fantastic pass from Saelemakers set up Pellegrini, whose shot was initially saved by Leali. However, Dovbyk reacted swiftly, outpacing Bani to tap the ball back into the net, giving the Giallorossi the lead.

Genoa brought the score to 1-1 in the 35th minute. Patrizio Masini found the back of the net with a right-footed shot from the center of the box after a corner kick given away by Angeliño. A fantastic cross from Miretti set up Masini, who executed a brilliant strike on the fly, leaving Svilar with no chance.

Roma regained the lead in the 60th minute when forward Stephan El Shaarawy found the back of the net with a right-footed shot aimed at the bottom right corner. Paulo Dybala set him up perfectly, delivering a fantastic pass that allowed El Shaarawy to strike a precise, low curling shot from the edge of the box, leaving Leali with no chance.

Genoa is in turmoil! In the 73rd minute, Nicola Leali accidentally scores an own goal. Roma makes a bold move, with Dybala sprinting to the post and taking a shot at the net. Leali, in a bid to block the goal, ends up putting the ball into his own net.

Stats before the game:

Genoa have won 33 Serie A matches against Roma (D26 L54), only against Lazio (W38) have they done better in the competition; however, the Rossoblu have collected just one win in their last 19 matches against the Giallorossi in the competition (D5 L13).
Roma have collected four clean sheets in their last six Serie A matches against Genoa, as many as in their previous 14; furthermore, the Giallorossi have failed to score only once in their last 19 encounters with the Rossoblu in the competition.
Roma have not lost at home against Genoa in exactly 35 years, since 17 January 1990; their unbeaten streak of 21 home matches (W17 L4) is the third longest among those opened by the Giallorossi in the competition (21 also against Parma, 27 against Hellas Verona and 30 against Bari).

Roma are unbeaten in their last four Serie A games (W2 D2), having lost seven of their previous nine (W2); they have also won three of their last six games (D2 L1), as many as in their previous 15 (D4 L8).

Having lost two home games in a row, Roma have won each of their last three Serie A games at the Stadio Olimpico; they have not done better since a run of five consecutive home wins under José Mourinho between September and November 2023.
Roma have won six of their 20 Serie A games this season (D6 L8), their worst result in the three points for a win era at this point in the season; they have not won six or fewer of their first 21 games of a season since 1993/94 (five in that case).

Patrick Vieira has kept five clean sheets in his first eight Serie A games; There are only 12 coaches in the history of the championship to have kept six clean sheets in the first nine games, the last of which was Alexander Blessin with Genoa.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AC Milan, 8th position with 28 points and a positive goal difference of +9
Como, 16th position with 19 points and a negative goal difference of -10

Como faced a defeat in the Serie A Week 19 match on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, held at the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium in Como, Italy. After two draws at home, Milan bounced back to secure a victory in Serie A. This win allows Milan to surpass Bologna, who will be playing against Inter tomorrow, moving them up to seventh in the standings, just five points shy of fourth-placed Lazio, although they have a game in hand. Como’s run of positive results comes to an end at two, having not lost since their match against Inter on December 23. Fabregas’ squad remains in sixteenth place with 19 points, tied with Parma and Verona, and one point ahead of third-from-bottom Cagliari.

This game marks the first of three rescheduled matches involving the four teams that participated in the Italian Super Cup, which AC Milan claimed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It will be Sergio Conceiçao’s first away game in the league, having started his Milan coaching career with two victories before settling for a draw against Cagliari in his league debut last Saturday.

Como took the initiative in the 60th minute when Assane Diao found the back of the net with a left-footed shot aimed at the bottom right corner. The goal was set up by Maxence Caqueret, who delivered a pass to the former Betis player. Diao then made his way into the area on his left foot and fired a shot towards the near post, which Maignan couldn’t get to in time.

AC Milan equalized in the 71st minute for the 1-1. Theo Hernández scores with a left footed shot. Reijnders’ corner is badly cleared by Goldaniga, who unintentionally passes to Theo.

Milan turned the game around and took the lead. In the 76th minute, Rafael Leão found the back of the net with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. Tammy Abraham provided the assist, sending a vertical pass to Leão, who skillfully slipped the ball under Butez.

Stats before the game:

Como and Milan return to face each other in Serie A after 21 years and 256 days, that is, since May 3, 2003: victory for the Rossoneri 2-0 at the Meazza, with goals from Filippo Inzaghi and Alessandro Nesta.

Milan have remained unbeaten in the last 11 matches against Como in Serie A (6W, 5D), winning the two most recent; the last success of the Como team against the Rossoneri in the top league dates back to January 13, 1985 (2-0 at the Meazza, with Ottavio Bianchi as coach of the white and blues).

Milan won the last away match against Como in Serie A (2-1 on December 15, 2002); the Rossoneri have never obtained two away wins in a row against the Como team in the top league.

Como have lost only one of the last six league games (2W, 3D), after having been defeated four times in the previous five (1D).

Milan are coming off two draws in a row in the league (vs Roma and Cagliari) and could end three consecutive games in a draw in Serie A for the first time since September 2018, under Gennaro Gattuso. Como have won their last two home league games (vs Roma and Lecce, both 2-0), the last time they achieved three home wins in a row in Serie A dates back to the period between October and November 1984, with Ottavio Bianchi at the helm.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Napoli, 1st position with 44 points and a positive goal difference of +18
Hellas Verona, 17th position with 19 points and a positive goal difference of +18

The competition for the Scudetto is heating up! On Sunday, January 12, 2025, Napoli triumphed over Hellas Verona in their Serie A Week 20 match held at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, Italy. This win propels Napoli to the top of the standings with 47 points from 20 matches. They are currently four points ahead of Inter, who have two games in hand, and five points clear of Atalanta, who have one game less than Napoli. Meanwhile, Verona sits at 19 points, just a point above third-from-bottom Cagliari. This was a solid performance from Conte’s squad, who dealt with Hellas Verona effectively, scoring once in each half and missing several chances to increase their lead.

The visitors struggled to pose any threat to Meret’s goal, allowing the league leaders to secure their fifth straight win and their seventh victory in the last eight matches. Looking ahead, a crucial match awaits Conte’s team as they prepare to take on Atalanta in Bergamo this Saturday. Verona will face Lazio at the Bentegodi next Sunday at 18:00.eir last four matches and looking to improve their chances of survival.

Napoli got off to a great start in the 5th minute when Hellas Verona’s goalkeeper, Lorenzo Montipò, accidentally scored an own goal. After Lukaku set up Di Lorenzo, the latter’s left-footed shot from the edge of the box struck the post, but the ball ricocheted off Montipò and found its way into the net.

Napoli is taking charge of the match. In the 61st minute, Frank Anguissa found the net with a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner, assisted by Romelu Lukaku. The fans are definitely rallying behind the team to secure this win.

✅  Stats before the game

Following their impressive 3-0 victory on the opening matchday of the 2024/25 Serie A season, Hellas Verona has the chance to make history by defeating Napoli in both league encounters this season.

Napoli, on the other hand, boasts an impressive record, having gone 19 home games without a loss against Hellas Verona in Serie A, with 14 wins and 5 draws. This marks the longest active streak of home games without defeat against a single opponent for the Neapolitans. Only Atalanta and Udinese have managed to achieve longer unbeaten runs at home against other teams, with 23 and 21 games respectively. As for Napoli, they wrapped up the first half of the season with 44 points, and historically, they have only surpassed this total after 19 matches in Serie A on three occasions: 50 points in 2022/23, 48 points in 2017/18, and 48 points in 1987/88.

Napoli has achieved the highest number of clean sheets this season among the top five European leagues, totaling 11. This marks the first time since the 1986/87 season that the Partenopei have managed such a feat after 19 matches in Serie A. They are on track to potentially keep a clean sheet in 12 of their first 20 games, a milestone not reached since the 1981/82 season.

In their last four home matches, Napoli has alternated between a win and a loss, and they haven’t secured two consecutive victories at home in Serie A since their first five matches of the current tournament.  With the win against Bologna and the draw against Udinese, Hellas Verona remained unbeaten in two matches in a row for the first time in this championship; the Scaligeri could record three games in a row without defeat in a single Serie A season for the first time since the period between November and December 2023 (three draws in that case).
