Roma living a special moment after the qualification for the final of the Conference League.  Yet, Roma failed to win the Serie A Week 36 against Fiorentina.  Fiorentina reached 59 points same as Roma and are in full swing for positioning in football Europe.

A tough defeat for Roma because with only 2 games left they remain in the 6th position with 59 points failing to join Lazio with 62 points.  At the moment Fiorentina and Roma are paired in sixth place in the standings valid for access to the next Conference League. Lazio, on the other hand, one step away from qualifying for the Europa League.

Vincenzo Italiano’s Fiorentina returns to win after 4 consecutive defeats between the league and the Italian Cup.  Fiorentina does it against a direct competitor to Europe and, above all, thanks to a high-level performance from a physical and technical point of view.

Fiorentina opened the score in the 5th minute. Referee Guida gave a penalty to Fiorentina conceded by Rick Karsdorp after a foul on Nicolás González. It is González to defeat AS Roma goalkeeper Rui Patricio converting the penalty with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AC Milan, 2nd position with 77 points and a positive goal difference of +31
Hellas Verona, 9th position with 52 points and a positive goal difference of +9

AC Milan win the Serie A Week 36 game defeating Hellas Verona on Sunday 8 May 2022 at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy.  The victory returned the first position to AC Milan reaching 80 points and getting closer to the Scudetto.  There are only 2 more games to end the season.  Inter following closely in the second position with 78 points.

Simply put, Milan put their heads ahead of Inter in the standings, winning a fundamental victory on the hostile field of Verona, breaking the tabu.  Milan continue the dream towards the Scudetto thanks to the spectacular performance of the Dynamic duo Leao-Tonali who gave Pioli’s men the victory. The brace of midfielder Sandro Tonali (celebrating today his 22nd birthday) overturns Tudor’s formation, before the final icing is signed by Florenzi who has just taken over the field. A perfect evening for the first of the class who, after the goal of Pharaohs, was able to raise his head and win a match that was anything but easy.

In the next round, Milan will face Atalanta at the San Siro Stadium while Verona will face Torino.

The first attempt for AC Milan is positive though Referee Daniele Doveri ruled out the goal by Sandro Tonali in the 17th minute for offside.

Hellas Verona opened the score in the 38th minute. Marco Faraoni defeating AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan from very close range with a headed shot to the center. The assist is by Darko Lazovic.

Milan equalized for the 1-1 in the 45th minute just before ending the first half. It’s the birthday boy Sandro Tonali to defeat Hellas Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò from very close range with a left-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Rafael Leão.

Image

Let’s keep celebrating the “Birthday Boy!” In the 50th minute, Sandro Tonali in perfect combination with Rafael Leão break the draw and scored to give Milan the lead. Should we say, blow the candles?

The motivation to win the game is clear for Milan. In the 86th minute, there it is Alessandro Florenzi “a super Sub” scoring with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Junior Messias.

Stats before the game: Hellas Verona and AC Milan playing their 60th match in Serie A: 10 wins for Verona (the last one was back on 17th December 2017, 3-0), 21 draws and 28 Milan wins, including four in the last six matches (D2).  In the three points for a win era, only in 2001/02 have AC Milan won both Serie A matches in a single season against Verona (both 2-1). AC Milan have won their last two away games against Verona in Serie A and in their history have never achieved three wins in a row on the road against the Gialloblu in the top-flight.  Verona could win two Serie A games in a row for the first time since January; they have never repeated the same result twice in a row in their last 13 league games.
Only Liverpool have a longer unbeaten run than AC Milan in the big-5 European leagues: 13 games without losing for the Rossoneri in Serie A, with eight wins and five draws.

👉 Lineup HELLAS VERONA (3-4-2-1): Montipò; Ceccherini, Günter, Casale; Faraoni, Tameze, Ilić, Lazović; Barák, Caprari; Simeone.

👉 Lineup AC MILAN (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kalulu, Tomori, Hernández; Tonali, Kessie; Saelemaekers, Krunić; Leão; Giroud.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Napoli, 3rd position with 70 points and a positive goal difference of +36
Torino, 10th position with 47 points and a positive goal difference of +8

Napoli win the Serie A Week 36 game defeating Torino on Saturday 7 May 2022 at the Olimpico di Torino in Turin, Italy.  Torino, therefore, remains nailed to 47 points, minus five from Hellas Verona which, however, has one game less.  Napoli remain in the 3rd position with 73 points, waiting for AC Milan’s match tomorrow night which could sanction the mathematical exclusion of Napoli from the fight for the Scudetto.

We might argue it is a narrow victory for Napoli that flies to +4 over Juventus and locks third place with two games to go. The match-winner is Fabian Ruiz who, in the 73rd minute, steals the ball from Pobega, flies towards Torino area, and blasts Berisha.  Previously, Lorenzo Insigne had had a penalty saved by the Albanian goalkeeper. Torino’s positive streak stops at six while Napoli manages to give continuity to their results after the affirmation against Sassuolo.

In the next round, Torino will face Hellas Verona at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium while Napoli will face Genoa at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.

Napoli opened the score in the 73rd minute. Fabián Ruiz defeated Torino goalkeeper Berisha with a left-footed shot to the center.
