Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AS Roma, 7th position with 54 points and a positive goal difference of +15
Hellas Verona, 14th position with 32 points and negative goal difference of -29

AS Roma won the Serie A Week 33 game on Saturday 19 April 2025 at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Rome, Italy.  Roma secured a slim win against Hellas, managing the match with ease and facing minimal challenges despite allowing their opponents to control the game for extended periods. However, Hellas struggled to create significant threats near Svilar. In the second half, the most promising opportunities came from Mosquera, who nearly scored in the 52nd minute, hitting the left post, and Dovbyk, who came close to doubling the lead with a shot from within the box.

Roma got off to a strong start in the 4th minute when Eldor Shomurodov found the back of the net with a close-range right-footed shot. Matías Soulé provided the assist. Cristante made a precise throw to Soulé, who entered the box and attempted a lob to bypass Montipò’s defense. Shomurodov charged in and tapped the ball into the goal, beating Ghilardi and Coppola, who were attempting to make a block.

The first half concludes with Roma leading 1-0. The Giallorossi took an early advantage when Soulé delicately lifted the ball over Montipò, allowing Shomurodov to charge in and score. Ranieri’s squad appears satisfied, allowing Zanetti’s team to take control of the play, which results in a few threatening moments near Svilar, though they fail to test him significantly. In stoppage time, Mancini had a golden opportunity from a corner but couldn’t convert from a prime position.

Monza, 20th position with 15 points and a negative goal difference of -31
Napoli, 2nd position with 68 points and a positive goal difference of +26

Mission accomplished for Napoli winning the Serie A’s Week 33 on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, Italy. Both Inter and Napoli are in a tight race for the Scudetto, currently sitting at 71 points each.

Napoli faced a challenging match but ultimately secured a crucial victory, thanks to the reliable Scott McTominay. In the first half, Monza created several problems for Napoli, particularly with Castrovilli coming close to scoring the opening goal. The game shifted when Raspadori came on. Politano made a great run, and although Turati managed to save, he later assisted McTominay, who scored his ninth goal of the season with a header. Monza remains in a tough spot, fighting to avoid relegation to Serie B.

The game…

The first half ends with Monza and Napoli locked in a 0-0 draw. Napoli’s first half was quite unexpected; they created three goal-scoring chances in just three minutes, starting with McTominay and then Rrahmani. However, Monza surprised them by coming close to scoring on several occasions. Castrovilli had a chance to give Monza the lead after getting around Rafa Marin in the box but missed the opportunity. At the end of the half, Dany Mota also failed to connect with a vital deflection from Kyriakopoulos.

Napoli gained the advantage in the 72nd minute when Scott McTominay found the net with a powerful header aimed at the top center of the goal. Giacomo Raspadori provided the assist. McTominay has finally broken the stalemate! Raspadori delivered a perfect pass for the Scottish midfielder, who managed to head it in just before goalkeeper Stefano Turati could reach it!

✅  Stats before the game:

Napoli has netted at least two goals in three Serie A matches against Monza, totaling 10 goals, while they were unable to score in the other two encounters. Only Atalanta (five times) and Inter (four times) have managed to score at least two goals more frequently against the Brianza side in the league.

Monza has also scored two goals in both of their home matches against Napoli in Serie A, achieving one win and one draw. The Neapolitan side could become the first team to allow at least two goals in three different away matches against Monza in the top division.

Since their inaugural home match in Serie A on August 13, 2022, Monza has faced 24 home defeats (with 14 wins and 16 draws). During this time, only Hellas Verona (26 losses) has experienced more home defeats in the league, with Empoli also suffering 24 home losses.

✅   What’s happening in Round 32?

The race for the Scudetto seems to be slowing down a bit. Inter reached 71 points keeping the 1st place after defeating Cagliari with a 3-1. Inter increased its lead in the standings to 3 points ahead of the second-place team. Cagliari remains at 30 points. In the first half, Inter dominated, with goals from Arnautovic and Lautaro Martinez. However, Piccoli quickly brought Cagliari back into the game in the second half. Shortly after, Bisseck restored Inter’s two-goal advantage. In the closing moments, the home team managed the game effectively, fending off any threats from the Sardinians.

Napoli secured a comfortable 3-0 victory against Empoli, who are struggling to avoid relegation. With Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku at the forefront, the home team maintained their pursuit of Serie A leaders Inter Milan. As the second-placed team, Napoli faced mounting pressure following Inter’s 3-1 win over Cagliari at home. With only six matches left in the season, they find themselves three points behind Inter, sitting at 68 points.  A significant win! Atalanta secures three points by defeating Bologna 2-0, reclaiming third place and surpassing Juventus. Retegui and Pasalic found the back of the net. As a result, Bologna drops to fifth place, now behind Juventus.

AC Milan has achieved a much-needed victory after going three games without a win, bringing their total to 51 points in the league standings. Milan crushed Udinese with a poker at the Bluenergy. This win is particularly encouraging as they are now just one point behind eighth-placed Fiorentina and four points shy of sixth-placed Lazio, which holds the final qualifying spot for the upcoming European cups.  On the other hand, Udinese suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, remaining in tenth place with 40 points, and they could be overtaken by Genoa if the rossoblù manage to defeat Verona.

What a thrilling encounter! The Derby della Capitale wrapped up with a 1-1 draw, meaning the bragging rights in Rome are shared. Lazio struck first with a header from Alessio Romagnoli, who capitalized on a free kick taken by Pellegrini. The Giallorossi responded with Soulé, who leveled the score with a stunning curling shot from long range. The match was intense and rough, and in the end, both teams walked away with a draw that didn’t serve either well.

Juventus secured a 2-1 victory over Lecce, gaining three vital points in their quest for a Champions League spot. The scoring opened just two minutes into the match with Teun Koopmeiners finding the net, followed by Yildiz extending the lead in the 33rd minute, both assists coming from Dušan Vlahović. Lecce’s Baschirotto managed to pull one back with a header in the 87th minute.

Venezia v Monza.  Venezia have not won in 14 league games (8D, 6P) – the last success of the Venetians in Serie A dates back to 22 December against Cagliari (2-1 at home)

Como secured a victory with a strong performance, highlighted by Douvikas’ goal in the 38th minute of the first half. The excitement peaked in the closing moments when Ilic had a goal ruled out during stoppage time. With this win, Como has now achieved two consecutive victories, bringing their total to 36 points and solidifying their position in 13th place.

Italian Serie A

The game between Fiorentina and Parma concludes without any goals. The Viola miss the chance to secure a victory, remaining just shy of the Champions League spots, while the Crociati make a slight move towards safety. The match lacked excitement, with a focus on defense and impressive performances from both goalkeepers. The final score is a 0-0 draw, resulting in one point for each team. In the upcoming round, Fiorentina will take on Cagliari, while Parma will go up against Juventus.

The Derby della Capitale was a thriller! Lazio and Roma concluded the Serie A Week 32 match with a draw on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the Olimpico di Roma Stadium in Italy’s capital.  A 1-1 tie, leaving both teams sharing the pride of ruling Rome. Lazio initially took the lead when Alessio Romagnoli scored with a header from a free kick delivered by Pellegrini. However, Soulé equalized for the Giallorossi with a fantastic curling shot from outside the box. In a tense and gritty encounter, neither Lazio nor Roma could claim victory, resulting in a draw that ultimately benefited neither side.

In the last 10 encounters between these two teams across all competitions, there has only been one instance where both sides found the net in the same game: during Lazio’s 3-2 league triumph on September 26, 2021.

Lazio and Roma have faced each other 161 times in the league. In previous matches, Lazio has won 42 times, Roma has won 58 times, while there have been 61 draws.

The action …

Lazio gained the advantage in the 46th minute when Alessio Romagnoli found the net with a header directed to the bottom left corner. Luca Pellegrini provided the assist. After a free kick for the Eagles, Marusic feigned a move, allowing the center-back’s header to reach the near post, where goalkeeper Mile Svilar was unable to make the save!

Roma leveled the score in the 69th minute when Matías Soulé found the back of the net with a left-footed strike into the top left corner. Alexis Saelemaekers provided the assist. Soulé’s curling shot struck the underside of the crossbar, and according to Sozza and the goal line technology, the ball crossed the line.

Stats before the game

Roma has successfully maintained a clean sheet in their last three league derbies against Lazio. In the history of Serie A, the Giallorossi have only achieved four consecutive clean sheets against the Biancocelesti on two occasions: from 1943 to 1947 and again from 1959 to 1960.

Following their 2-0 victory in the first leg on January 5, Roma has the opportunity to win both league derbies against Lazio in a single season for the first time since the 2015/16 season. Additionally, the Giallorossi could secure at least three consecutive league victories over the Biancocelesti for the first time since the stretch between May 2015 and December 2016, when they won four times.
