Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lecce, 10th position with 13 points and a negative goal difference of -1
Torino, 14th position with 9 points and a negative goal difference of -6

Mission accomplished, Torino won the Serie A Week 10 game on Saturday 28 October 2023 at the Via del Mare Stadium in Lecce, Italy. Torino returned to victory and goals, moving to 12 points, just one behind the Salento team at 13. Alessandro Buongiorno’s goal at the end of the first half decided a match with few scoring opportunities and which saw Lecce try more insistently, without however managing to undermine the Granata rearguard.

In the second half, as the minutes passed, the pace dropped and the opportunities disappeared. Lecce has fallen and has not found the three points in five matches, 1-0 at home against Genoa.   The bad news is that Torino Coach Ivan Juric was sent off in the 95th minute. Yet, the party is on for Torino fans celebrating this awaited victory.

In the next round, Lecce will play at the Olimpico against Roma, while the Granata will play at home against Sassuolo.

Torino scored in the 41st minute. Alessandro Buongiorno defeated Lecce goalkeeper from very close range with a left-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Samuele Ricci.

✅   Stats before the game: Lecce has lost the last two matches without scoring against Torino in the league – one defeat more than those suffered in the previous eight matches (4W, 3D) against the Granata in Serie A – and could suffer three consecutive defeats against Torino for the first time in the top tournament. Torino have won at Lecce only twice in the nine away games (4D, 3L) played in Serie A; however, one of these successes came in the most recent match against the Salento team at Via del Mare, last March 12: 0-2, thanks to goals from Singo and Sanabria. Lecce have only picked up one point in their last two home league matches, after having managed full points in the first three (nine points out of the nine available); the Giallorossi won 77% of the overall spoils at Via del Mare (10 points out of 13): only Frosinone boasts a higher percentage of points gained in home matches on the total table (83%, or 10/12) compared to the Salento in Serie A 2023/24. After remaining unbeaten in seven of their previous eight league away games (W6, D1, L1), Torino lost their last two Serie A away games against Lazio and Juventus without finding a goal (both 0-2); only once under the management of Ivan Juric, the Granata team suffered three consecutive defeats away from home, remaining without a goal in the top tournament: between October and November 2021 (four in that case).

👉 Lineup LECCE (4-3-3): Falcone; Gendrey, Baschirotto, Pongracic, Gallo; Rafia, Ramadani, Gonzalez; Almqvist, Kristovic, Banda.

👉 Lineup TORINO (3-5-2): Milinkovic Savic; Vojvoda, Schuurs, Rodriguez; Bellanova, Linetty, Ricci, Gineitis, Lazaro; Sanabria, Pellegri.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Bologna, 8th position with 14 points and a positive goal difference of +3
Sassuolo, 13th position with 10 points and a negative goal difference of -4

Sassuolo and Bologna ended the Serie A Week 10 game with a draw on Saturday 28 October 2023 at the Mapei Stadium in Sassuolo, Italy.  Sassuolo are -4 points below Bologna. With this result, Bologna rises to 15 points in the standings and is currently 7th alone, while Sassuolo reaches 11, four points behind the Bolognese. Both teams had various opportunities to claim the victory. Goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Daniel Boloca decided the final result, while the Dutch striker also had a goal disallowed in the second half. The rossoblù extended their unbeaten streak and achieved their fifth consecutive away draw.

The action started fast at the Mapei. Bologna opened the score in the 4th minute. Joshua Zirkzee defeated Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Michel Aebischer.

Sassuolo equalized in the 45th minute before ending the first half. It is Daniel Boloca to defeat Bologna goalkeeper Skorupski with a right footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Jeremy Toljan.

Stats before the game: Sassuolo lost each of the matches in the first round of the last two Serie A championships against Bologna without scoring, with Alessio Dionisi on the bench, after having been defeated only once in all seven previous matches (W4, D2) played in the first half of the major tournament against the Emilians. Sassuolo has conceded goals in all nine Serie A home matches against Bologna; among the teams faced at least five times at home in the top division, only against Napoli have the neroverdi played more matches without ever managing to keep a clean sheet (10 matches against the Neapolitans). Sassuolo have lost two of their last three league matches (1N), after having won three of their previous four (1L); in 2023, no team has suffered more defeats than the neroverdi in Serie A (15, equal to Empoli). Bologna have drawn all four away games played in this championship and could score five “X” signs in the first five away games of the season for the first time in their history in Serie A; more generally, only four teams have drawn all the first five matches away from home in a single top tournament: Juventus (1980/81), Perugia (1979/80), Napoli (1974/75) and Turin (1973/74).

👉 Lineup SASSUOLO (4-2-3-1): Consigli; Toljian, Erlic, Ferrari, Vina; Boloca, Thorsdvedt; Berardi, Bajrami, Laurientè; Pinamonti.

👉 Lineup BOLOGNA (4-2-3-1): Skorupski; De Silvestri, Beukema, Calafiori, Lykogiannis; Aebischer, Freuler; Orsolini, Ferguson, Saelemaekers; Zirkzee.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Genoa, 15th position with 8 points and a negative goal difference of -4
Salernitana,  19th position with 4 points and a negative goal difference of -13

Salernitana crying out loud for salvation after losing the Serie A Week 10 game on Friday 27 October 2023 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy.  Salernitana are in the relegation zone with only 4 points.  The good news is that Genoa claimed all 3 points and climbed the Standings. Genoa beat Salernitana 1-0 and returned to victory after three rounds. The decisive goal is by Albert Gudmundsson. Two posts hit by Salernitana with Retegui and Badelj. Chance also for Dragusin and Sabelli. Dangerous guests with Mazzocchi and Dia. Bottom line, at the end, Salernitana failed to get at least an honor goal.

In the next round of the championship for Genoa away match at Cagliari, Salernitana will face Napoli at home.

Genoa opened the score in the 35th minute. Albert Gudmundsson defeated Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Ruslan Malinovskyi.

Mexican teammates playing in opposite teams, but still united: Genoa defender Johan Vásquez and Salernitana goalkeeper Guillemo “Memo” Ochoa.

Stats before the game: Genoa have won only one of the last seven matches (3D, 3L) played against Salernitana between Serie A, B and C (including playoffs) – the 2-1 match, at home, in Serie C in June 2006 – after recording six successes in the eight previous matches (1N, 1L), all of which took place in the cadet tournament (six clean sheets out of eight in this partial). Considering the three professional championships (Serie A, B and C), Salernitana has achieved only three successes in 16 away games against Genoa (5N, 8P), with the Granata’s last away victory against the rossoblù coming in the tournament cadet, in April 2004 (1-2 in that case). Furthermore, again between Serie A, B and C, the Campania team have conceded goals in 13 games in a row at Grifone (27 in total, 2.1 on average per match) and have not kept a clean sheet since March 1953 (0-0 in B series). Genoa have lost their last two league games without scoring; the rossoblù could suffer three defeats in a row without finding a goal in Serie A for the first time since March 2018, with Davide Ballardini as coach. Salernitana have lost their last three away games in the championship without scoring and could suffer four consecutive away defeats, remaining without a goal for the third time in Serie A: after the period between September and November 1998 and December 1947 and January 1948 .

👉 Lineup Genoa (3-5-2): Martinez; Dragusin, Bani, Vasquez; Sabelli, Malinovskyi, Badelj, Frendrup, Martin; Gudmundsson, Retegui.

👉 Lineup Salernitana (3-4-2-1): Ochoa; Lovato, Gyomber, Pirola; Mazzocchi, Coulibaly, Maggiore, Bradaric; Cabral, Candreva; Dia

Italian Soccer Serie A

👉    Hello, my friends. Here are the 2023-2024 Italian Serie A Serie A Week 9 RESULTS / Ninth Round on Saturday 21, Sunday 22, and Monday 23 October 2023.  The battle for the Scudetto is still neck-to-neck between Inter and AC Milan.   Inter with 22 points took the lead after defeating Torino.  AC Milan wasted the chance to remain in the 1st position stepping down to the 2nd position after losing against Juventus.   This means, that  now, it’s a 3-way race for the Scudetto between Inter, AC Milan, and Juventus.

Salernitana Coach Filippo Inzaghi made his debut with a draw after replacing coach Paulo Sousa.  Salernitana will face Cagliari who are also in the relegation zone.

The good news is that Empoli won the Tuscan Derby and left the relegation zone after defeating Fiorentina at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.   Empoli won their second game this season and climbed from the 18th to the 17th position.  The bad news is for Udinese because they went down to the 18th position and will have to recover to leave the relegation zone.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Empoli, 18th position with 4 points and a negative goal difference of -5
Fiorentina, 4th position with 17 points and a positive goal difference of +7

Empoli won the Serie A Week 9 game on Monday 23 October 2023 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy. Empoli finally got their second game winning the Tuscan Derby. The match is constantly played at a high pace, with Fiorentina constantly maintaining control of the game, but with Empoli becoming almost always more dangerous thanks to the rapid counterattacks of their trident.

The victory also helped Empoli to leave the relegation zone. Empoli climbed from the 18th to the 17th position.

The match broke the deadlock in the 21st minute. Francesco Caputo defeated Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Alberto Grassi.

Image

Empoli with another goal in the 81st minute. Emmanuel Gyasi scored with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Jacopo Fazzini.

✅    Stats before the game: Fiorentina and Empoli drew in both matches of the last championship (0-0 against Castellani and 1-1 against Franchi) and only once did they have an impact in three consecutive Serie A matches: in the period between 1987 and 1988 (in that case once 1-1 and twice 0-0).  Empoli have won only two of the 13 Serie A matches played in Florence against the Viola (5N, 6L), the last of which was on 15 April 2017, when Giovanni Martusciello’s Azzurri won 2-1 over Fiorentina. Paulo Sousa (El Kaddouri scored, Tello and Pasqual scored from a penalty). Only Milan (12) has a longer unbeaten streak at home than Fiorentina in Serie A: 11 games in a row at the Franchi without losing for Viola (7W, 4D), a series that began with the 1-1 draw against Empoli. Fiorentina have gained at least 17 points after the first eight Serie A matches for the third time in the three points per win era (in 1998/99 and 2015/16 with 18 points on both occasions); in neither case have they ever reached 20 in the first nine (with a victory over Empoli, this would be a new record for the Viola club since 1994/95).  Empoli have collected only four points so far: on the three occasions in which they collected less than seven points in the era of three points for a win (therefore in the event of a failure to win in Florence) in the first nine matches of a Serie A championship, they have always been relegated at the end of the championship (2018/19, 2016/17 and 2003/04).

👉 Lineup FIORENTINA (4-2-3-1): Terracciano; Kayode, Milenkovic, Quarta, Parisi; Arthur, Duncan; Gonzalez, Bonaventura, Brekalo; Nzola.

👉Lineup EMPOLI (4-3-3): Berisha; Ebuehi, Walukiewicz, Luperto, Cacace; Marin, Grassi, Maleh; Cambiaghi, Caputo, Cancellieri.
