Result Mamelodi Sundowns 3 – 4 Borussia Dortmund, Saturday 21 June 2025, FIFA Club World Cup Group Stage

Borussia Dortmund managed to fend off a determined comeback from South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns, clinching a 4-3 win on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at the TQL Stadium. This victory brings Dortmund closer to advancing in the Club World Cup knockout stages, with Dortmund earning 4 points and Sundowns 3 points.

Dortmund found themselves trailing after just 11 minutes but fought back to secure their second win in Group F, placing them at the top of the group with four points, one ahead of Sundowns.

Lucas Ribeiro initially put Sundowns in the lead, while Iqraam Rayners and Lebo Mothiba found the net in the second half as they attempted to come back from a 4-1 deficit in a fiercely contested match played under the scorching midday sun.

Mamelodi Sundowns took the lead in the 11th minute when Lucas Ribeiro Costa scored with a left-footed shot from the center of the box into the bottom right corner, assisted by Tashreeq Matthews.

However, the lead lasted only five minutes. In the 16th minute, a disastrous mistake by Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, who made a short pass to Nmecha, allowed for an easy tap-in equalizer. Felix Nmecha scored with a right-footed shot from the right side of the box into the center of the goal.

Dortmund took the lead in the 34th minute when Serhou Guirassy scored with a header from very close range into the bottom left corner, assisted by Julian Brandt’s cross.

Just before halftime, in the 45th minute, Bellingham, making his second appearance for Dortmund, extended the lead to 3-1 as Williams parried Brandt’s cross directly to him, and he took a moment before wrong-footing the goalkeeper. Ouch!

Tough luck for Sundowns! In the 59th minute, Khuliso Mudau scored an own goal, bringing Dortmund’s tally to 4 goals.

In the 62nd minute, Iqraam Rayners scored with a header from very close range into the center of the goal, giving Sundowns their second goal.
