✅   Greetings, my friends!  I present to you the latest front pages from the Italian newspapers La Gazzetta dello Sport, Corriere dello Sport, and Tutto Sport, dated Wednesday 21 August 2024.

Headlines featuring Platini: Yildiz shares my sentiments. Inzaghi’s game plan for Inter includes aiming for 20 goals with Thuram, while Palacios is on his way. Juventus is saying enough to the chaos. They’re welcoming Nico and steering clear of auctions. Arsenal is making another attempt to secure Victor Osimhen. One concerning piece of news is Paulo Dybala’s potential exit from Roma, with Arab interest intensifying. On the Argentine front, Palacios is set for a crucial meeting with Inter. Atalanta is on fire, pulling off another deal with Torino. Gasp is also eyeing Bellanova. The buzz is all about Thiago Motta and his fresh start at Juventus. Unfortunately for Torino, they’re losing another key player after Buongiorno’s move to Napoli, and now Bellanova is heading to Atalanta, a tough blow.

2024-25 Serie A Week 1 Live Result and Scores.

The 2024-25 Serie A Season started on Saturday 17 August 2024 with a series of draws.  Sixth draw in ten games on this first round of Serie A

Defending Champions Inter Milan faced a tough challenge, ending their match against a determined Genoa in a 2-2 tie.  AC Milan, meanwhile, staged an impressive comeback after trailing by two goals against Torino.  Fonseca making key substitutions that led to Alvaro Morata and Noah Okafor turning the tide, resulting in a dramatic equalizer in the 95th minute.  In sum, AC Milan managed to salvage a point with a last-minute goal from Okafor. Spanish forward Morata also made a strong impression by finding the net in his debut.  The game ended with a 2-2 in San Siro.  In another game, Empoli and Monza had to settle for a goalless draw 0-0 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium. Genoa Parma 1-1 Fiorentina Milan 2-2 Torino Empoli 0-0 Monza.

Antonio Conte’s inaugural match as Napoli’s coach in the 2024-25 Serie A Season has proven to be a dismal affair, with his team suffering a 3-0 loss to Hellas Verona at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium. As a matter of fact, despite a promising first half, Napoli faltered dramatically in the second half. As a result, they conceded three goals, including a brace from Mosquera, leaving Conte’s squad in a troubling position.

The game between Cagliari and Roma wraps up with a scoreless result. The first half lacked excitement, with only one shot on target from the home team. Things heated up in the second half, as the Giallorossi nearly scored several times, including a near miss from Dovbyk that hit the crossbar.  Cagliari responded with Marin, who also struck the woodwork, but in the end, neither side could find the back of the net.

Atalanta claimed the away victory after a rough first thirty minutes, struggling to find their rhythm.  Undeniable, once Gasperini’s team found their footing, they dominated the game.   Furthermore, Mateo Retegui and Marco Brescianini both netted two goals, effectively dismantling Lecce, who seemed to vanish after the first half’s midpoint.  Despite several key absences, Atalanta clearly signals their intent to their competitors.  In sum, Atalanta have now won four of their last five away games (L1) against Lecce in Serie A.

Juventus kicked off the 2024-25 season with a victory in their Serie A Week 1 match at the Allianz Stadium. Unfortunately for Como, who just moved up from Serie B, they struggled in this challenging encounter. The Thiago Motta era began on a positive note, as the team celebrated a winning debut with a solid performance, scoring three goals against Como. Samuel Mbangula, in his senior debut, got things started with a goal in the 23rd minute. Just after halftime, Timothy Weah, with an assist from Yildiz, doubled the lead in the 46th minute. Dušan Vlahović came close to scoring twice, hitting the post on both attempts, while Andrea Cambiaso capped off the match with a goal in the 91st minute.

It’s important to highlight that Serie A has three teams promoted from Serie B.  Let’s give a warm welcome to Parma, Como, and Venezia, and hope they have a great season! Cheers!

The new Serie A season kicks off for Parma and Fiorentina with a draw on Saturday 17 August 2024 at the Ennio Tardini Stadium. The home side was quite active in the first half, managing to score just once through Man. As the second half progressed, Fiorentina gained momentum and equalized with a free kick from Cristiano Biraghi. In the closing moments, Fiorentina aimed for a late victory, but Pongracic’s red card made things tricky, allowing Parma to push for a win, nearly succeeding with a chance from Cyprien.

The new Serie A season kicks off, and we’re diving into the exciting matchups at Tardini and Marassi. Parma, back in Serie A after a three-year absence, is filled with fresh hopes as they face a revamped Fiorentina. The Viola arrives with a new coach, Palladino, taking over from Italiano, and a host of new players ready to make their mark. From the goalkeeper to the forwards, Fiorentina’s transformation is still in progress. Meanwhile, Parma has made a few adjustments, but the core team remains largely unchanged from last season.

Parma took the lead in the 23rd minute. Dennis Man defeated Fiorentina goalkeeper with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Ange-Yoan Bonny.

Fiorentina equalized in the 75th minute. It is Cristiano Biraghi  to defeat Parma goalkeeper with a left-footed free kick shot to the top left corner.

Stats before the game

Fiorentina are the team against which Parma have drawn the most games in their history in Serie A: 18 out of 48, including the two most recent in the 2020/21 season, complete with 16 victories for the Viola and 14 successes for the Crociati.
Parma have remained unbeaten in eight of the last nine matches at the Tardini against Fiorentina in Serie A (2W, 6D), the only away success for the Viola in the period dates back to 5 July 2020 (2-1 with three goals from the penalty spot: a brace from Erick Pulgar and a goal from Juraj Kucka).

Only once in their history in Serie A have Fiorentina and Parma faced each other on the opening day of the championship: it was October 1, 2000, also in that case at the Tardini, and the match between Fatih Terim’s Viola (with Alessandro Pierini and Christian Amoroso on target) and Alberto Malesani’s Ducali (with a brace from Marcio Amoroso) ended 2-2.
Parma have won only one of their last 19 matches on their seasonal debut in Serie A (13D, 5L): 2-0 against Brescia on August 29, 2010 with goals from Valeri Bojinov and Stefano Morrone.  Fiorentina have never drawn in their last 13 games on their seasonal debut in Serie A (8W, 5L), winning the two most recent ones – the last “X” sign for the Viola in their first championship match dates back to August 29, 2010 (1-1 against Napoli).
