Atalanta won in grand style the UEFA Europa League Playoffs Second Leg game against Olympiacos on Thursday 24 February 2022 at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis in Piraeus, Greece.   The victory gives Atalanta the qualification to the Round of 16 with a brace by Ruslan Malinovskyi.   Previously, all three of Atalanta’s last goals in the Europa League were scored by defenders (Toloi and Djimsiti X2).

Atalanta opened the score in the 40th minute. It is Joakim Maehle to defeat Olympiacos goalkeeper Tomás Vaclík with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Marten de Roon.

Atalanta on fire… The second goal arrived in the 67th minute. Ruslan Malinovskyi with a powerful left-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Teun Koopmeiners.

Talking about being inspired!!! Ruslan Malinovskyi scored a brace in the 69th minute “securing” Atalanta’s win with a left-footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Jérémie Boga.

✅   Stats before the game: Olympiakos have been eliminated on 14 of the last 15 occasions they have lost the first leg of a double knockout match in Europe (including qualifying), only making it through the round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League against Arsenal in 2019 / 20.  Atalanta’s only previous European trip to a Greek side was in the European Cup Winners’ Cup round of 16 in October 1987, a 1-0 defeat to OFI Creta.
Olympiakos have won just one of their last 11 home games in the Europa League knockout stage (5D, 5L), beating PSV 4-2 in February 2021.  Atalanta lost just one of their nine Europa League games, 3-2 against Borussia Dortmund in the 2017/18 round of 32.  After winning all the away games played in 2020 (4-3 vs Valencia, 4-0 vs Midtjylland, 2-0 vs Liverpool, 1-0 vs Ajax), Atalanta have not won any of the four away games in European competitions. 2021 (2D, 2L).
