Atalanta survived the moment of truth winning the UEFA Europa League Playoffs against Olympiakos on Thursday 17 February 2022 at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo, Italy.  Atalanta’s hero is Berat Djimsiti scoring the brace to claim the victory after being down by a goal.  The Second Leg will be played on Thursday 24 February at the Karaiskaki Stadium in Greece. Surely, this victory is an added boost for Atalanta because this was the first meeting in European competition between these two teams.

A cold shower at the Gewiss, Olympiakos opened the score in the 16th minute. Tiquinho Soares defeated Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Giorgos Masouras.

Atalanta equalized for the 1-1 in the 61st minute. It is Berat Djimsiti to defeat Olympiakos goalkeeper Vaclik with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Teun Koopmeiners with a cross following a corner conceded by Kostas Manolas.

Atalanta overturned the result in the 63rd minute for the 2-1. Berat Djimsiti with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner following a corner conceded by Pape Abou Cissé.

✅   Stats before the game.    Atalanta’s only official match against Greek sides to date came in the first knockout round of the Cup Winners’ Cup in 1987/88, when they eliminated OFI Creta. Atalanta will be the eighth different Italian opponent of Olympiakos, who beat Milan in their last match in 2018/19.  Atalanta have been eliminated in the knockout stages in each of their last two UEFA Cup / Europa League appearances – against Inter Milan in 1990/91 and against Borussia Dortmund in 2017/18. Atalanta have won only one of their last eight European competitions (3N, 4P): 1-0 last September against Young Boys in the Champions League, thanks to Matteo Pessina’s only goal in European club competition.
Atalanta have lost only two of their 13 home games in the round of 16 of major European competitions (7W, 4N), although one of those defeats came in the last such game against Real Madrid in the Champions League last season.

🏆👉 Lineup Atalanta: Musso, Toloi, Demiral, Djimsiti, Mæhle, de Roon, Pessina, Pezzella, Malinovskyi, Pašalić, Muriel.
