🏆👉    The USA made a significant impact in Group D by defeating Paraguay 4–1 in their World Cup opener. The match, held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at SoFi Stadium, was a source of joy for USA fans. Two Serie A stars, Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie and AC Milan forward Christian Pulisic, played pivotal roles for the USA. Folarin Balogun shone with two goals, while an early own goal from Paraguay and a late strike from Gio Reyna in the 92nd minute rounded off the scoring.

This victory places the United States in a strong position at the top of Group D with 3 points. The USA's upcoming matches are against Australia and Turkey. Balogun's outstanding performance received widespread acclaim from fans and media alike, with many considering it one of the most remarkable opening performances of the tournament thus far.  Paraguay, on the other hand, struggled to assert themselves in the match. It was a tough loss for Paraguay, while the USA celebrated a fantastic win, one of the most convincing victories in their World Cup history.

The U.S. maintained control of possession, applied high pressure, and restricted Paraguay to very few scoring opportunities. After Paraguay managed to score in the second half, Gio Reyna secured the win with a goal in stoppage time.

In the 7th minute ⚽️ An own goal by Damián Bobadilla!!!   The play kicks off as Weston McKennie carries the ball into Paraguay's territory, then passes it to the left for Christian Pulisic. Pulisic skillfully maneuvers between two defenders, attracting a third towards him before passing it to the late-arriving McKennie. The Juventus midfielder nudges it ahead, forcing Gill to come off his line, but it's Bobadilla who ultimately puts it into his own net!

What a fantastic beginning for the Serie A dynamic duo, Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic, as they play a part in Bobadilla's own goal, putting the United States in the lead!

In the 31st minute ⚽️ Goal by Folarin Balogun!  Christian Pulisic’s is found in depth and passes to Balogun in the center of the area, who slots a first-time shot into the bottom left corner of the goalkeeper.

In the 45+5 minute ⚽️ Folarin Balogun scores again! Tillman gets the ball from defense close to the center circle and delivers a perfectly weighted pass through the lines for Balogun's run. He skillfully evades Alderete, who falls in a last-ditch effort to block him, then cuts inside to fire a shot into the top of the net!






 

Christian Pulisic is substituted by Sebastian Berhalter in the 46th minute before starting the second half.



 

🏆👉 🇺🇸 USA 3 - 1 Paraguay 🇵🇾

In the 73rd minute, Paraguay managed to close the gap. ⚽️ Goal scored by Mauricio Magalhães Prado. Gill sends a long free-kick down the field, which the United States defense fails to handle, allowing Almiron to skillfully control the bouncing ball before passing it to Enciso. With great awareness, the forward takes a moment to glance to his left before delivering a pass to the unmarked Mauricio, who finishes brilliantly just 27 minutes after coming on!

In the 98th minute ⚽️ Giovanni Reyna scores! Freeman passes to Weah on the right side, who then sets up Reyna. Unmarked, Reyna enters the 18-yard box and delivers a stunning shot with the outside of his right foot, sending the ball past the goalkeeper and into the far post! That's a wrap, everyone! The show's over.
