Ecuador achieved a remarkable 2-1 comeback win against Germany in their last Group E match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday, June 25, 2026. Gonzalo Plata netted the decisive goal in the 77th minute, sending Ecuador into the Round of 32 alongside Group E champions Germany and second-place Ivory Coast. The dream became a reality for Ecuador, with the crowd erupting in tears, cheers, and joyous jumping, creating an atmosphere of pure excitement.  This important Group E match was at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

⚽️    In the 2nd minute, a lightning-fast goal by Leroy Sané, following an impressive play by Aleksandar Pavlovic, who skillfully evaded his direct opponent in the air, the German number 5 delivered a pass into the penalty area to Florian Wirtz. After controlling the ball, Wirtz sent a low, inviting cross into the center, which Leroy Sané converted into a goal with a first-time shot.

Pedro Vite steals the ball in the opponent's half and quickly turns it into an assist for Angulo, who controls it at the edge of the box and unleashes a powerful right-footed shot into the corner, leaving Neuer with no chance.
