Morocco triumphed over Canada with a decisive 3-0 win in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Houston Stadium. Azzedine Ounahi netted two goals (50' and 82'), while Soufiane Rahimi capped off the match with a goal in stoppage time.  Meanwhile, Canada becomes the first of the three co-hosts to exit the tournament. Despite their loss, they made history by winning a knockout match and reaching the Round of 16.

This victory marks Morocco's advancement to the quarter-finals for the second consecutive World Cup. They are set to face either France or Paraguay in Boston.

The match featured three players from Serie A. For Canada, Juventus forward Jonathan David played the full match, and Sassuolo midfielder Ismael Kone, despite his injury, stayed with the team to support his teammates. On the Moroccan side, AS Roma midfielder Neil El Aynaoui also played the entire game.

Morocco dominated the match, leaving Canada unable to respond. The scoring began in the 50th minute when Azzedine Ounahi scored with a side-footed shot from the edge of the box following a short free-kick routine. Ounahi struck again in the 82nd minute, finishing a quick counter-attack initiated by former AC Milan player Brahim Díaz, making it 2-0. The final touch came in the 98th minute when Soufiane Rahimi scored a third goal during another swift break, sealing the victory.
Fact:  This matchup is a rematch from the 2022 World Cup Group Stage, where Morocco triumphed over Canada with a score of 2-1 before embarking on an unexpected journey to the semifinals.

Canada: Under the guidance of coach Jesse Marsch, Canada made history by securing their first knockout stage win in the Round of 32, triumphing over South Africa with a last-minute goal from Stephen Eustáquio, finishing 1-0.

Morocco: The Atlas Lions, currently ranked 6th in the world, advanced to the Round of 16 after a thrilling Round of 32 match, where they defeated the Netherlands 3-2 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
