Norway stunned five-time champions Brazil with a remarkable 2-1 victory in the Round of 16 at New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) on Sunday, July 5, 2026.  Erling Haaland emerged as the match's hero, scoring two late goals to secure this historic win for the Scandinavian team.

Brazil managed to score a consolation goal in the 90+10' with Neymar Jr. converting a penalty kick.

This defeat marks Brazil's earliest exit from the World Cup since 1990, concluding their campaign under manager Carlo Ancelotti.   Norway now moves on to the quarter-finals, where they will compete against the winner of the Mexico vs. England match.

In summary, Erling Haaland scored the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute and added another for good measure in the 90th minute, both assisted by Andreas Schjelderup.
Earlier in the match, Bruno Guimarães had a penalty saved by Norwegian goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland in the first half.

Despite having a star-studded lineup that included Vini Jr. and Rodrygo and dominating possession, Brazil faced elimination.

❌ In the 14th minute, a penalty was saved! Bruno Guimarães hesitated during his run-up, unable to fool Norway's goalkeeper Nyland, and his weak shot was saved! The goalkeeper dove to his left and deflected the ball away!

⚽️ In the 79th minute, Erling Haaland scored with a powerful header. The Scandinavian striker timed his jump perfectly on Schjelderup's cross, leaving goalkeeper Alisson with no chance. A cold shower for Brazil!

⚽️ In the 90th minute, Erling Haaland steals the spotlight at MetLife: he takes a touch at the edge of the box and fires a left-footed shot that goes through Danilo's legs for the City star. Wow, what a surprise for Brazil! It's officially Haaland time!

In the 90+10', Neymar Jr. scores from the penalty spot. After a hesitant run-up, he places the ball into the right corner of the net, leaving goalkeeper Nyland with no chance. At last, Norway's keeper is defeated, but it seems too late for Brazil to turn things around! A consolation goal, indeed.
