Argentina defeated Switzerland in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Quarterfinals at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on Saturday, July 11, 2026.   In a remarkable turn of events, Argentina has made it to the World Cup semifinals, where they will take on England on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in Atlanta. The match promises to be filled with excitement.

The match went into extra time with a score of 1-1. Argentina's Alexis Mac Allister scored first in the 10th minute, but Switzerland's Dan Ndoye leveled the game in the 67th minute.  In a thrilling conclusion, Julián Alvarez netted the decisive goal for Argentina in the 112th minute. Then, in the 121st minute, Inter forward Lautaro Martínez scored a third goal to secure the win.

Switzerland was down to 10 players starting from the 72nd minute. Striker Breel Embolo received a red card in the second half of the World Cup quarterfinals against Argentina after a VAR review resulted in a second yellow card for simulation. This incident took place in the 72nd minute when Leandro Paredes seemed to catch Embolo's heel. Initially, referee Joao Pedro Silva Pinheiro issued a yellow card to Paredes for the foul.
