Atalanta failing to qualify to the Quarterfinals.  Atalanta lost the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, Second Leg game against Real Madrid on Tuesday 16 March 2021 at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano in Madrid, Spain.   Atalanta lost the First Leg game with a 0-1.  The aggregate result is Real Madrid 4 – 1 Atalanta.   The European dream is over for Atalanta but we give them a standing ovation and thank the team for their effort.

  • 👉  Atalanta facing for the second time a Spanish La Liga  opponents away from home in European competition. Their previous game came at this exact stage of the UEFA Champions League last season, winning 4-3 away at Valencia in the Round of 16 second leg (8-4 on aggregate victory).  Real Madrid have won 11 of their last 12 games against Italian Serie A opponents in the UEFA Champions League (L1), scoring at least 2 goals in 10 of these fixtures. The last Serie A team to stop Real Madrid from scoring in the competition was Juventus back in November 2008.   Atalanta are on the longest current run of away victories of any team in the UEFA Champions League, having won each of their last 5. They have scored 14 goals across these five games, while keeping four clean sheets in the process (only three goals conceded).  Real Madrid are winless in their last four home games in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League (D1 L3), including defeats in each of the last two (v Ajax in 2018-19 and Man City in 2019-20).  Atalanta are yet to concede a goal away from home in the UEFA Champions League this season.
