Italian Soccer Serie A

Hello, my friends. Here are the 2022-2023 Italian Serie A Week 27 RESULTS / Twenty-seventh Round on Friday 17, Saturday 18, and Sunday 19 March 2023.  Napoli remain the sole leader with 71 points.  The news is that Inter lost the 2nd position stepping down to the 3rd position after losing the Derby D’Italia against Juventus.   Lazio defeated AS Roma in the Derby della Capitale and overtook the 2nd position with 52 points while Inter remain with 50 points.

Sassuolo have won four consecutive matches in Serie A TIM for the first time since April 2021 and obtained their first clean sheet against Spezia in the top division.

Gian Piero Gasperini (802) became the 4th manager to cross the milestone of 800 points in Serie A, also taking into account victories, in the three points for a win era (since 1994/95), after Luciano Spalletti (974 ), Carlo Ancelotti (948) and Massimiliano Allegri (926).

Sassuolo scored 19 points in the eight matchdays of the second round, already two more than the entire tally of the first round (17).

In the last 50 years among Atalanta players aged under 21, only Domenico Morfeo has scored more goals in a single Serie A season in 1995/96 (11) than Rasmus Højlund (seven in 2022/23).

Daniel Ciofani is the oldest player in the top-5 of the 2022-23 European championships among those who have scored more than 5 goals.

Only Jeremie Frimpong (13) has participated in more goals than Carlos Augusto (9, including 5 goals) among the defenders of the top-5 European leagues 2022-23.

Lewis Ferguson is the fourth Scottish player to score at least four goals in a Serie A season, following Denis Law in 1961/62 (10), Graeme Souness in 1984/85 (5) and Aaron Hickey in 2021/22 (5). .

Charalampos Lykogiannis’ goal following an assist from Giorgios Kyriakopoulos is the first by a Greek player following an assist from another Greek in Serie A TIM since 14 December 2014 (in that case Christodoulopoulos after Tachtsidis’ winning pass against Udinese with Verona) .

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the oldest goalscorer in Serie A history (41 years and 166 days), surpassing Alessandro Costacurta (41 years and 25 days, in May 2007).

In the era of three points for a win, only Olivier Bierhoff (36) and Roberto Muzzi (45) took fewer games than Beto (55) to score 20 goals in Serie A for the Friulians.

The team that made the most shots was Atalanta with 27 total shots, followed by Fiorentina and Inter with 18. The player who made the most shots was Riccardo Saponara (6).

Ondrej Duda is the player who has made the most steals: 14 for the Hellas Verona midfielder, followed by Coulibaly from Salernitana, Winks from Sampdoria and Tameze from Hellas Verona, all three with 12.

The footballer who completed the most passes was Luis Alberto of Lazio (94). Followed by Pablo Mari from Monza (92) and Danilo Cataldi from Lazio (83).

Italian Soccer Serie A

Hello, my friends. Here are the 2022-2023 Italian Serie A Week 26 RESULTS / Twenty-sixth Round on Friday 10, Saturday 11, Sunday 12, and Monday 13 March 2023.   Napoli are the sole leader with 68 points are +18 lead over Inter with 50 points in the 2nd position. Inter fell against Spezia. At the moment, Napoli have a five-game lead over Inter and therefore, according to the calendar, the decisive match to claim the Scudetto could be that of May 3 away at Udinese.

The first win for Spezia against Inter in six games in Serie A (D1, L4). Inter have conceded at least 24 goals after 13 Serie A TIM away games for the first time since 1947/48.

Empoli have lost three games in a row in Serie A TIM for the first time since December 2018 (four on that occasion under Giuseppe Iachini). Five of the six goals scored by Rodrigo Becão in Serie A TIM have come with headers from corners.

Atalanta have failed to score for three consecutive Serie A TIM matches for only the second time in the Gasperini era: the first in October 2018.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is the Serie A TIM player who has been involved in the most goals (26) in all competitions this season: overtaking teammate Victor Osimhen, with 25.

Lazio have reached 15 clean sheets this season in Serie A TIM: only Barcelona (18) has done better in the top 5 European leagues.

Bologna made nine shots in the first half against Lazio: the Bolognese had recorded more shots in the first half of the game this season in Serie A TIM only on 27 January against Spezia (11).

Lecce have recorded two consecutive home games without finding a goal in the same top flight for the first time since March 2009 (in that case three against Inter, Lazio and Reggina).

It was 4 November 2020 against Genoa that Torino did not score at least two goals in the first half hour of play in an away Serie A TIM match.

The team that made the most shots was Inter, with 28 total shots. After the Nerazzurri there are Juventus and Milan, both with 24 points.

The player who recorded the fastest sprint speed was the Sampdoria defender Alessandro Zanoli (36.15 Km/h), followed by Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta (34.25 Km/h) and Festy Ebosele from Udinese (33.90 Km /h).

Hellas Verona was the team that completed the most dribbles: 17 in total for the Gialloblù, followed by Sassuolo with 14 and Lazio with 13 dribbles.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Inter, 2nd position with 50 points and a positive goal difference of +18
Spezia, 17th position with 21 points and a negative goal difference of -20

Spezia won the Serie A Week 26 game defeating Inter on Friday 13 March 2023 at the Alberto Picco Stadium in Spezia, Italy. Inter fell on the Spezia field in anticipation of the 26th day of Serie A and with the eighth defeat in the championship. This is a tough lost because Inter saw the chances of approaching Napoli vanish completely. Inter remain -15 from Napoli. Good news is for Spezia reaching 24 points, +8 on the third from last place.

Spezia gets the third victory at the Peak of its championship, the first since the derby with Sampdoria on 17 September. The race for salvation is still very open, there is a long way to go until the end of the season. However, Spezia seeming closer to remain in Serie A next season.

The sour note is for the Argentinean forward Lautaro Martínez failing to convert a penalty in the 14th minute. In fact, Lautaro missed five penalties in Serie A, out of fourteen attempts, of which three in the last four kicked, a sign of a bad relationship between the world champion and the eleven meters. The happiest would be Spezia goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski after saving Martinez’ penalty.

Spezia opened the score in the 55th minute. Forward Daniel Maldini defeated Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by MBala Nzola.

MBala Nzola scored the winner goal for Spezia in the 87th minute. Nzola converted a penalty with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The penalty is conceded by Denzel Dumfries after a foul on Viktor Kovalenko.
