Good news.  In a joint statement on Monday 11 May 2020, Italy Health Minister Roberto Speranza and Italy Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora, had given the ok for the Serie A group training to restart on Monday 18 May 2020.

According to Spadafora, “I think we will need at least another week to see the contagion curve and then decide on the championship.” The Serie A stopped on Week 26 due to the Coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak and will resume Week 27. Reportedly, COVID-19 has killed nearly 31,000 people in Italy.

Here are the Serie A  Standing 5 top positions with Juventus leading in the first position with 63 points followed by Lazio in the second position with 62 points.  The third position is for Inter with 54 points being -9 points below the leader.  Up to Serie A Week 26, it seems a two-way race for the Scudetto.

RANK TEAM GD
1 Juventus 26 20 3 3 50 24 26 63
2 Lazio 26 19 5 2 60 23 37 62
3 Internazionale 25 16 6 3 49 24 25 54
4 Atalanta 25 14 6 5 70 34 36 48
5 Roma 26 13 6 7 51 35 16 45

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) states that for the start of team training, each club should form a group of players, technical staff, doctors, physiotherapists, and other staff who have tested negative for the coronavirus and isolate them in a summer-style training camp. Protocol to follow include that all members of the group should be tested for the coronavirus in the 96 hours before the start of the training camp. They will also be subject to extensive swab and antibody testing during the camp.

Regarding players who have previously tested positive with COVID-19 and recovered will follow additional medical tests to find out if there are underlying health issues or side effects.

The Italian government has allowed the teams to return to individual training sessions in team facilities from May 4, 2020. However, since the return to training, Fiorentina and Sampdoria announced 10 positive tests. Torino also with the first player tested positive.
