Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Lecce, 14th position with 21 points and a negative goal difference of -6
Juventus, 2nd position with 49 points and a positive goal difference of +20

Juventus won the Serie A Week 21 game defeating Lecce on Sunday 21 January 2024 at the Via del Mare Stadium in Lecce, Italy.  The victory gave Juventus the lead reaching 52 points.  Inter (with a game to recover) are now in the 2nd position.   Inter are playing the Supercoppa Italia Final against Napoli in Saudi Arabia. Juventus beats Lecce 3-0 grabbing their fifth consecutive victory.

The protagonist of the match Dušan Vlahović, author of a brace. The Serbian center-forward broke the deadlock in the 59th minute using an assist from Cambiaso and doubled the lead in the 68th minute with an opportunist goal after a header from McKennie. Bremer closed the score in the 85th minute. Bianconeri at the top of the table.

Juventus opened the score in the 59th minute. Forward Dušan Vlahović defeated Lecce goalkeeper with a left-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Andrea Cambiaso.

A brace by Vlahović adding a boost to the morale of the team and the party is all for Juve fans.

✅   Stats before the game: Lecce have won only one of the last 15 matches against Juventus in Serie A (D3, L11) – 2-0 on 20 February 2011 at Via Del Mare – losing all four of the most recent games, with a score of 1-8. Lecce have lost 10 of their 17 home matches against Juventus in Serie A (3W, 4D): against no team have the Salento team suffered more home defeats in the tournament (exactly the same results recorded against Inter in 17 matches). After the 1-0 in the first leg, Juventus can win both seasonal matches against Lecce without conceding a goal for the first time since the 1997/98 championship (two 2-0s on that occasion, with Marcello Lippi on the bench ). Lecce have remained unbeaten in their last four league matches at Via Del Mare (1W, 3D); the Salento players have not recorded a longer streak without any home defeat in Serie A since the period between January and April 2012 (eight in that case with Serse Cosmi as coach). Juventus have remained unbeaten in their last 15 league matches (W12, D3), since the return of Massimiliano Allegri only once have the Bianconeri recorded a longer streak without defeat in Serie A: 16 matches between November 2021 and March 2022. Juventus have conceded only one goal from a set piece in this Serie A, only Real Madrid has done better (zero goals conceded) from a set piece in the five major European championships underway.

Genoa, 12th with 22 points and a negative goal difference of -4
Salernitana, 20th position with 12 points and a negative goal difference of -23

The salvation mission is on for Salernitana failing to win the Serie A Week 21 on Sunday 21 January 2024 at the Arechi Stadium in Salerno, Italy. Three golden points for Genoa who overturned a Salernitana team who had actually played a good match especially in the first half. Mateo Retegui responds to Martegani’s quick opener. In the second half, it is the usual Albert Gudmundsson who completes the comeback by converting the penalty awarded by Orsato for Lovato’s handball. Sixth consecutive useful result for Genoa, who won a direct clash of fundamental importance

Salernitana with a fast start. In the 2nd minute, Agustin Martegani  defeated Genoa goalkeeper with a left footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is is by Domagoj Bradaric.

Genoa equalized in the 13th minute. Mateo Retegui defeated Salernitana goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa with a left-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Milan Badelj.

Genoa claimed the victory in the 57th minute. Albert Gudmundsson converted a penalty with a right footed shot to the center. The penalty was conceded by Matteo Lovato after a handball.

✅  Stats before the game.  Great balance in the five matches between Salernitana and Genoa in Serie A: two successes for each side and a draw. The first leg match last October 27th between the two teams was won by Grifone, 1-0, thanks to a goal by Albert Gudmundsson. Salernitana won both home matches against Genoa in Serie A (9 November 1947 and 2 October 2021); only against Lazio and Sampdoria have the Campanians achieved more home successes in the top division (three against both). Genoa are unbeaten in five league games (1W, 4D); in the period (since mid-December), only Inter, Juventus and Milan have not suffered any defeat like the Grifone. Salernitana have won only one of their last 10 matches at Arechi in this Serie A (4N, 5L) – 2-1 against Lazio last November 25 – and have conceded 20 goals in the period: a negative record in home matches in the championship in course. Salernitana occupies last place in the standings with only 12 points, the result of two wins and six draws (12P); in the era of three points for a win, only two teams survived with 12 or fewer points collected after the first 20 Serie A matches of the season: the Granata team in 2021/22 (11 points at this point of the tournament) and the Crotone in 2016/17 (10).

👉 Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Empoli, 19th position with 13 points and a negative goal difference of -24
Monza, 11th position with 25 points and a negative goal difference of -5

Empoli won in grand style the A Week 21 game on Sunday 21 January 2024 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. Debut to remember for Davide Nicola on the Empoli bench. The Tuscans prevailed with a clear 3-0 over Monza and once again began to glimpse more than one possibility of survival thanks to what, for the Tuscans, was only the second home victory of this championship, the fourth overall. A day to remember also for Simon Zurwkoski, author of the hat-trick that characterized the match. Monza, however, failed to react and returned home after conceding 10 goals in the last three championship matches. Palladino will have his work cut out for him to reverse the trend.

Empoli rises to 16 points in the standings, one less than third from last Hellas Verona and two less than the duo formed by Cagliari and Udinese. Monza, on the other hand, remains anchored at 25 points, the margin on the relegation zone remains large but the only four points scored in the last six matches cannot leave the team from Brianza calm.

Two teams eager to get a result compete, the hosts, after the change on the bench which led Nicola to replace Andreazzoli, are looking for a victory that has been missing since November 12th at Napoli, while the guests have instead scored only four points in the last five championship races and must try to reverse course to remain in calm waters.

Empoli opened the score in the 13th minute. Szymon Zurkowski defeated Monza goalkeeper Alessandro Sorrentino with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner.

Empoli punished Monza with another goal in the 38th minute.  A brace for Szymon Zurkowski this time with a headed shot to the high center.

A brilliant game for Zurkowski collecting a hattrick. In the 73rd minute, Zurkowski scored with a left-footed to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Stiven Shpendi.

Image

Stats before the game: Monza won two of the three matches against Empoli in Serie A (1P), the Tuscans could in fact become the first team against which the Brianza team achieve three successes in the top division. In the three matches between Empoli and Monza in Serie A, the host team has always won: 1-0 for the Tuscans on 15 October 2022 at Castellani, 2-1 on 4 March 2023 and 2-0 last 26 August at U-Power Stadium in favor of the Brianza. Empoli have never lost in the last six games played at home against Monza between Serie A, Serie B and Serie C: five victories for the Tuscans and a draw, with four ‘clean sheets’ in the partial, including the two most recent. Only Clermont (four) have scored fewer goals than Empoli (five in 10 games) in home games this season in Europe’s top five leagues. Empoli have only collected 13 points in this championship, the result of three wins and four draws (13P): this is the worst performance recorded by the Tuscan team after the first 20 seasonal matches of a major tournament.
