Hellas Verona battling for salvation. Verona and Frosinone ended the Serie A Week 22 with a draw on Sunday 28 January 2024 at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy. Frosinone took the lead with Suslov’s penalty (previously Duda’s penalty saved by Turati), the guests draw from Kaio Jorge on an assist from Barrenechea. Verona are struggling not to be relegated with just 18 points.

In the next round, both teams have tough games. Frosinone vs AC Milan and Napoli vs Hellas Verona.

Verona took the lead before ending the first half in the 45+3. It is Tomás Suslov to defeat Frosinone goalkeeper converting a penalty with a left-footed shot to the top left corner. The penalty was conceded by Mehdi Bourabia following a handball in the penalty area.

Frosinone equalized in the 58th minute. Kaio Jorge defeated Hellas Verona goalkeeper from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The headed assist is by Enzo Barrenechea following a corner conceded by Juan Cabal.

✅   Stats before the game: Frosinone have won all three previous matches against Verona in Serie A, against no opponent have they recorded more successes in the top division (three also against Empoli but in five matches). Although Frosinone won all three matches against Verona in Serie A, both teams have always scored in these three matches: 11 goals in total (3.7 on average). Frosinone regained victory in the last championship match, after a series of seven games in a row in which they had collected just one point: the Ciociari have not achieved two consecutive successes in Serie A since April 2019, when Frosinone was on the bench the current Hellas coach Marco Baroni. Monza won the Serie A Week 22 game on Sunday 28 January 2024 at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, Italy. Monza regained victory after two consecutive defeats with 8 goals conceded and just 1 scored. A goal arrived today too, but it was enough to defeat Sassuolo. Clean sheet for Di Gregorio and return to scoring for Andrea Colpani who gives three fundamental points to Monza. Sassuolo, however, collapsed again, this time bereft of Berardi and with Pinamonti and Laurientè far from incisive.

In the next round,  Monza will face Udinese, while Sassuolo will be guests of Bologna.

Genoa made a comeback and won the Serie A Week 22 game on Sunday 28 January 2024 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa, Italy. The favorable moment continues for GGenoa with their second consecutive victory, after the one in Salerno. Lecce, on the other hand, is suffering its third consecutive defeat and is unable to emerge from this negative period.

The first half was dominated by the Giallorossi, with Lecce first missing a penalty with Nikola Krstovic saved by goalkeeper Joseph Martinez. The redemption moment arrived for Krstovic scoring later the opening goal.

In the second half, both teams came close to scoring, but Genoa had the upper hand, scoring two goals in just a few minutes. In the 70th minute, Gudmundsson took a perfect free kick, hitting the ball first onto the crossbar, then onto the goal line, where Retegui pounced and headed the score level. Six minutes later Vasquez hits the crossbar, Retegui is ready again on the rebound, and this time he passes to the center where Ekuban hits an overhead kick and doubles the score.

Genoa have only fallen at home twice (against Fiorentina and Milan), holding teams like Inter and Juventus to a draw. Lecce, on the other hand, far from the friendly walls has not yet won.

Nikola Krstovic defeated Genoa goalkeeper  Josep Martínez with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Valentin Gendrey.

Genoa equalized in the 70th minute. Mateo Retegui defeated Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom left corner.

Genoa overturned the result in the 75th minute. Caleb Ekuban scored with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The headed assist is by Mateo Retegui.


✅   Stats before the game: Lecce won the first leg against Genoa (1-0, 22 September 2023) and could beat Grifone two matches in a row for the first time in Serie A – the Apulian team had achieved only one success in the previous 14 matches against the Ligurians in the competition (5N, 8L). AC Milan are slowing down the race for the Scudetto. Milan failed to win the Serie A Week 22 game on Saturday 27 January 2024 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. A brace from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and two penalties conceded by Referee Davide Massa and missed by Olivier Giroud and Théo Hernandez were not enough for Milan to grab a victory. Bologna snatched a point thanks to Joshua Zirkzee and a penalty from Riccardo Orsolini in full injury time – awarded by VAR for a hold by the debutant Terracciano on Kristansen.

In the twenty-third round, Pioli’s team will visit Frosinone while Thiago Motta’s boys are expected in the Emilian derby with Sassuolo.

The Rossoneri, fresh from four victories in a row, wanted to continue their march to shorten the distance from the top. Bologna capable of picking up just one point in the last three matches, need to find success again in order not to lose the Champions League lead.

Bologna opened the score in the 29th minute. Joshua Zirkzee defeated AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan with a right footed shot to the bottom right corner.

AC Milan had the chance to equalize in the 42nd minute, though, forward Olivier Giroud failed to convert a penalty saved by goalkeeper.

The Rossoneri got the equalizer goal in the 45th minute. Ruben Loftus-Cheek defeated Bologna goalkeeper with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Davide Calabria.

AC Milan took the lead again in the 83rd minute. Ruben Loftus-Cheek equalized with a headed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Alessandro Florenzi.

Cagliari lost the Serie A Week 22 game against Torino also with a sad heart after the passing of icon legend Gigi Riva. There was a minute of silence before the game to commemorate Gigi Riva.   Cagliari failed to continue the positive internal streak (4W, 2D in the last six home games) to build their salvation;  Torino, without victories in five away games, are looking for a success to get into the wake of the Europe zone. Probelems for Cagliari conceding another goal before ending the first half. In the 45+3′ minute, the goal by Samuele Ricci with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Valentino Lazaro.

Cagliari shortened the distance in the 77th minute. Nicolas Viola defeated Torio goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic with a left footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Gabriele Zappa.

✅ Stats before the game: Cagliari have lost only one of their last nine Serie A matches against Torino (W3, D5), after picking up just one point in the previous seven matches against the Granata; after the 0-0 on matchday 1, the two teams could draw both matches of the season in the league for the first time since 2018/19 – even in that case the first leg match ended goalless.
