Napoli, 10th position with 35 points and a positive goal difference of  +5

Napoli rushing to climb to the top 6 positions ended the Serie A Week 25 game against Genoa with a draw on Saturday 17 February 2024 at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, Italy.  Napoli managed to grab one point after the late equalizer goal in the 90th minute by Cyril Ngonge. Napoli are six points away from fourth place, with the possibility for Atalanta and Bologna, however, to move to +9, in the event of victories against Sassuolo and Lazio respectively. Fifth consecutive useful result away from home, however, for Genoa, they have 30 points, with ten points ahead of the relegation zone, awaiting the Verona match, which will soon be playing against Juventus.

Surprise, surprise. Genoa silenced the Maradona Stadium in the 53rd minute with the leading goal. Morten Frendrup defeated Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret with a left footed shot to the top right corner conceded by Matteo Politano.

Napoli equalized in the 90th minute. Cyril Ngonge defeated Genoa goalkeeper with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The headed assist is by Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

✅   Stats before the game: After the 2-2 draw in the first leg, Napoli and Genoa could draw both matches in a single Serie A season for the first time since 1993/94, in which case Marcello Lippi was in charge of the Neapolitans while on the Grifone bench there was Claudio Maselli on the first leg and Franco Scoglio on the return. Napoli have remained unbeaten in 20 of the last 21 matches against Genoa in Serie A (14W, 6D): Grifone’s only success in the period dates back to 6 February 2021 (2-1 at Ferraris). Napoli are unbeaten in 13 home games against Genoa in Serie A (9W, 4D) and have never recorded more home games in a row without defeat against the Ligurians in the top flight – Grifone’s latest success away to the Neapolitans in the tournament it dates back to 22 February 2009 (1-0 thanks to a goal by Bosko Jankovic with Gian Piero Gasperini as coach). Napoli have lost eight of 23 matches in this championship, in the previous two full Serie A seasons the Neapolitans had never achieved more than seven defeats after 38 matchdays (seven in 2021/22 and four in 2022/23). Genoa lost their last championship match against Atalanta, interrupting a streak of eight games without defeat (3W, 5D) – in this Serie A only once have the Ligurians lost two games in a row: in October against Milan and Atalanta.

What a historic victory. Udinese won the Serie A Weekk 24 defeating Juventus on Monday 12 February 2024 at the Allianz Arena in Turin, Italy. This is a painful defeat and a slap for Juventus. The hero for Udinese is Giannetti scoring the only goal of the match and enough to claim this prestigious victory. First success of 2024 and an important leap in the rankings for Udinese, now fifteenth with three points ahead of the relegation zone.

On the other hand, it is the second consecutive defeat for Juventus, after the one in the direct clash with Inter, for Juventus, who lose at home for the first time this season, extending their winless streak to three. Juventus with 53 points remained seven points behind Inter, who have a game to recover, and just +1 above AC Milan.

Sadly, this defeat is not a good way for Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri to celebrate his 405th appearance.

Udinese scored the only goal in the 25th minute. Lautaro Giannetti defeated Juventus goalkeeper with a free kick from outside by Samardzic which is extended by Kristensen. Alex Sandro responds but leaves the ball in Giannetti’s area, who only has to push the opening goal into the goal.

👉  Stats before the game: Juventus have won their last four matches against Udinese in the league without conceding a goal, only once have the Piedmontese recorded five successes in a row without conceding a goal against the Friulians in Serie A: between March 2001 and March 2003. Juventus have won all of their last seven matches at the Allianz Stadium against Udinese in the league and have never achieved eight home wins in a row against the Friulians in Serie A; Furthermore, among the teams currently in Serie A, none have a longer streak of home successes against them. The last draw between Juventus and Udinese at the home of the “Vecchia Signora” in Serie A dates back to 18 March 1990 (Dino Zoff was the coach of the Piedmontese while Rino Marchesi was the coach of the Friulians): since then in 29 matches at the home of Juventus, 24 internal successes and five external victories. After five wins in a row in the league, Juventus have recorded just one point in the last two matches, the Bianconeri have no longer recorded consecutive games without a win in Serie A since last April (four in that case – 1N, 3P). Udinese have gained 19 points in 23 matches this season, equaling their worst season in Serie A after as many matches in the three points for a win era (19 points in 2018/19). In fact, starting from 1994/95, the Friulians have always collected at least 22 points after 24 Serie A matches of the season.

👉    Hello, my friends. Here are the 2023-2024 Italian Serie A Week 24 RESULTS / Twenty-fourth Round on Friday 9, Saturday 10, Sunday 11, and Monday 12 February 2024. Inter are in the lead with 60 points after defeating Roma,  Inter also have a game to recover.  Juventus wasted the chance to win the home game and although they are in the second place with 53 points, they are now -7 points below Inter and just +1 over AC Milan.  Udinese claimed a very important away victory by defeating Juventus causing a total upset for the Bianconeri.  In other words, the second position might change in the next round.  Your take?

Salernitana not finding a way out.  Salernitana was defeated at home and remained in the last position.  The good news is for Empoli because the victory helped them leave the relegation zone.

Lazio got an away victory defeating Cagliari and reached 37 points, moving closer to the Champions League zone, while Cagliari remained second to last with only 18 points. Lazio celebrate also their 4000th game in Serie A, just a perfect day. Deiola’s own goal opened, Ciro Immobile doubles (who scored 200 goals in Serie A), Gaetano reopened, and Felipe Anderson sealed the game.

Fiorentina are on a sprint race to climb to the top 6 positions. Fiorentina defeated Frosinone.  Surely, a big celebration at the Franchi, both for the goal and for three very important points in the fight to reach the European zone. With this success, Fiorentina reached to 37 points, provisionally two away from the Champions League zone (Atalanta at 39, but with one game less). Frosinone instead suffered defeat number 13 in this Serie A and continued the away nightmare: 12 games, zero wins, three draws, and nine defeats.

AC Milan are not slowing down and get back to the race for the Scudetto.  Milan keep the 3rd position with 52 points being -8 points below Inter and -1 below Juventus.  Napoli failed and their chances to be among the top 4 is a mirage. The Italian champions need points to get closer to fourth place which means the Champions League. Now in ninth place and with their top scorer, Victor Osimhen, currently involved in the Africa Cup of Nations final between his Nigeria and the Ivory Coast.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Napoli, 8th position with 35 points and a positive goal difference of +6
AC Milan, 3rd position with 49 points and a positive goal difference of +19

AC Milan are not slowing down and get back to the race for the Scudetto. Milan won the Serie A Week 24 game on Sunday 11 February 2024 in San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy. Napoli failed and their chances to be among the top 4 is a mirage. The Italian champions need points to get closer to fourth place which means the Champions League. Now in ninth place and with their top scorer, Victor Osimhen, currently involved in the Africa Cup of Nations final between his Nigeria and the Ivory Coast, they will rely on Simeone in attack.

Milan continues to win and takes home three precious points that keep fifth place at a distance, now at 13 points.

Milan and Napoli meet with the Rossoneri ahead in the standings by 14 points. On the one hand, the Rossoneri are in a sort of limbo, far from the top, but also from the Europa League zone and with an eye on the first leg of the Europa League match against Rennes next Thursday.

AC Milan opened the score in the 25th minute. Forward Théo Hernández defeated Napoli goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini with a left-footed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Rafael Leão.

✅  Stats before the game: Great balance in the last 10 matches between Milan and Napoli in Serie A: three wins for each side and four draws, after in the 10 previous matches between the two teams in the championship the Neapolitans had recorded seven successes (2N, 1L). After the 2-2 draw in the first leg, Milan and Napoli could draw both seasonal Serie A matches for the first time since 2019/20 (1-1 at Meazza and 2-2 at Maradona in that case). Milan and Napoli have drawn 26 of the 75 matches at home to the Rossoneri in Serie A (32 victories in Lombardy and 17 in Campania): on the one hand, only against Juventus (34) have the Rossoneri achieved more draws in home matches in the tournament, on the only against Roma (29) have the Neapolitans recorded more “X” signs away from home in the top division. Since mid-December 2023, Milan has earned 2.5 points on average in Serie A (in eight matches, six wins and two draws), only Inter (2.7) has recorded a higher average points in the period.

👉 Lineup AC MILAN (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Kjær, Gabbia, Hernández; Bennacer, Adli; Pulisic, Loftus-Cheek, Leão; Giroud.

👉 Lineup NAPOLI (3-5-1-1): Gollini; Østigård, Rrahmani, Juan Jesus; Di Lorenzo, Anguissa, Lobotka, Zieliński, Mazzocchi; Kvaratskhelia; Simeone.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Atalanta, 4th position with 39 points and a positive goal difference of +18
Genoa, 11th position with 29 points and a negative goal difference of -2

Atalanta pressing to climb to the 3rd positionby winning the Serie A Week 24 game against Genoa on Sunday 11 February 2024 in Genoa, Italy. Atalanta regained away success after four matches and consolidated their Champions League position. Two pearls from Charles De Ketelaere and Teun Koopmeiners brightened up the evening. On a sad note, VAR disallowed a goal from Scalvini, joy in the long recovery for the former Zappacosta and El Bilal on his debut after the serious summer injury. The former Malinovskyi is not enough.

Previously, Genoa, unbeaten in eight championship matches (3W, 5D), face the Nerazzurri, eager to consolidate fourth place in the standings but capable of picking up just two points in their last four away games.

Charles De Ketelaere defeated Genoa goalkeeper Josep Martínez with a left footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Mario Pasalic.

The ex-Atalanta players equalized for Genoa in the 51st minute. Ruslan Malinovskyi defeated Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi with a left-footed shot to the top left corner. The assist is by Milan Badelj

Atalanta back in the lead thanks to the goal by Teun Koopmeiners with a left-footed free kick shot.

Atalanta just don’t want to stop scoring and got 2 more goals in the 90+10 and 90+13 minutes.

Stats before the game: Atalanta has remained unbeaten in 13 of the last 14 matches against Genoa in Serie A (9W, 4D): Grifone’s only success in the period against the Dea dates back to 22 December 2018 (3-1 at Ferraris). Atalanta have kept a clean sheet in their last three games against Genoa in Serie A, the Dea have never recorded four clean sheets in a row against Grifone in the top flight. Furthermore, only against Pisa (four) do the Bergamo players boast a longer streak of matches without goals conceded in the tournament. Genoa have remained unbeaten in their last eight league matches (W3, D5): they are one of only three teams to have never lost in the tournament since mid-December (Inter and Milan are the others). Furthermore, the Grifone could record nine matches in a row without any defeat in Serie A for the first time since the period between October and December 2014, with Gian Piero Gasperini at the helm. Atalanta have won the last three championship matches, the Dea have not achieved at least four successes in a row in Serie A since the period between November and December 2021 (six in that case).
