The Serie A Week 3 between Bologna and Empoli ended with a draw on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium.  Bologna now has two points in the standings, just one more than Venezia, who sit at the bottom.  D’Aversa’s Empoli has accumulated five points, currently placing them fourth, just two points shy of the leaders Inter and Torino.

Fabbian scoring in the 2nd minute and Gyasi equalizing just a minute later. The first half was filled with action and goals, but the second half saw a lack of excitement, allowing Empoli to maintain their unbeaten run and continue their fight for survival. Bologna, on the other hand, struggled to find their rhythm in attack and remains winless in this season’s league.

Looking ahead, Bologna will face Como after the break, while Empoli will take on Juventus at the Castellani.

Last season, Bologna triumphed in both encounters against Empoli. Interestingly, the Emilians have never managed to secure three straight wins over the Tuscans in Serie A history. Will they break that streak, or will Empoli claim the win?

  • Bologna and Empoli have met 20 times in Serie A. The Azzurri have a narrow advantage with seven wins, compared to the Emilians’ six. There are also seven draws to round out their encounters.

What a quick goal! Just two minutes in, Giovanni Fabbian found the net for Bologna with a right-footed shot from close range after a corner given away by Ardian Ismajli.

Are you serious? Empoli quickly bounced back, scoring just a minute after Bologna’s goal. In the 3rd minute, Emmanuel Gyasi equalized for Empoli with a header from close range, sending the ball into the bottom right corner, assisted by a lovely cross from Giuseppe Pezzella.

Bologna have kept a clean sheet in their last two games against Empoli in Serie A, only once have they recorded more clean sheets in a row against the Azzurri in the tournament: four between 1998 and 2003. Great balance in the last six matches between Bologna and Empoli in Serie A at the home of the rossoblù: two wins each and two draws – 3-0 victory at the Dall’Ara in the most recent one (1 October 2023).

What a thrilling one-sided showdown! Inter triumphed in Serie A Week 3, decisively defeating Atalanta 4-0 on Friday, August 30, 2024. The atmosphere at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium was electric, leaving Inter fans overjoyed.  Thanks to this victory, Inter has extended their unbeaten streak to 12 league matches against Atalanta, with an impressive record of 7 wins and 5 draws.  This impressive run marks a record streak for them in Serie A. They’ve also triumphed in their last four games. The last time Atalanta celebrated a victory over Inter was on November 11, 2018, when they won 4-1 at the Gewiss Stadium.

It’s an own goal by Berat Djimsiti to give the lead to Inter in the 3rd minute! Mkhitaryan and Pavard connect at the three-quarter mark, passing to Thuram, who tries to send a low cross to the far post. Djimsiti inadvertently touches the ball, surprising Carnesecchi at his post.

Atalanta’s last Serie A win against Inter at the Meazza dates back to 23 March 2014 (2-1 thanks to a brace from Giacomo Bonaventura), since then the Milanese club has won seven games and drawn three times, with an overall score of 23-6.

Inter have alternated a draw and a win in their last six home league games (2-0 against Lecce in the most recent one), after having obtained nine consecutive home wins in Serie A.
After the defeat against Torino, Atalanta could lose two of their first three Serie A games of the season for the first time since 2017/18 (in that case defeats against Roma and Napoli).

Torino FC won the Serie A Week 3 against Venezia FC on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium in Venice, Italy.  Torino secures a win, bringing their points total to 7. Venice, despite putting up a strong performance, stays stuck at just one point. The first half was tough for Torino, but they held on, thanks in part to an impressive display from goalkeeper Milinkovic Savic. In the second half, Torino bounced back and scored the decisive goal through Saul Coco.

Interestingly, the last five matchups between Venezia and Torino at the Penzo have ended in draws, and the Granata have only had a longer streak of away draws against SPAL, which stands at six.

Curious fact:  Paolo Vanoli, the coach of Torino, managed Venezia in a total of 69 Serie B matches, spanning the regular season and playoffs, from November 2022 to June 2024. He successfully guided the team to Serie A last season, clinching promotion with a playoff final win against Cremonese. On top of that, Vanoli also played for Venezia in 56 matches during the 1993-1995 period, netting two goals in the cadet championship.

Torino took the lead in the agonizing 86th minute. Saúl Coco defeated Venezia goalkeeper with a headed shot.

Following their win against Torino in Serie A (2-1 on February 12, 2022, at the Olimpico Grande Torino), Venezia has a chance to pull off two consecutive wins against the Granata, something they’ve never done in the top league before.

Cagliari and Como ended the Serie A Week 2 match with a draw on Monday, August 26, 2024, at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, Italy.  Como secures their first point in the championship, while Cagliari adds another to their tally. For Nicola and Fabregas, the quest for victory continues, but both teams see a boost in their standings. Cutrone levels the score against Piccoli, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

The first half was evenly matched, with the home team taking the lead, but Como came out strong in the second half, equalizing thanks to Cutrone and nearly clinching a win on a few occasions. Cagliari also had their chances, but ultimately, neither side could find the decisive goal.

In the upcoming round, Cagliari will face Lecce, while Como heads to Udine.

This will be the seventh challenge between Cagliari and Como in Serie A: the Lombards lead for three two wins – completes the picture a draw. The two teams will return to face each other in the maximum championship for the first time after 42 years and 151 days, or from March 28, 1982 (Victory 2-0 of the Sardinians at Sant’Elia). Cagliari is unbeaten in three home challenges against Como in Serie A (2v, 1n), all between 1976 and 1982, with four goals scored and just one immediately. After the draw against Roma, Cagliari could remain unbeaten in the first two races of a Serie A championship for the first time since 2011/12 (two wins in that case). Como could win one of the first two seasonal Serie A races for the first time since 1951/52 (two out of two in that case); Since then the Lombards have no longer found success in the first two matches in the following 10 Serie A championships.
Como has won only one of the last 35 Serie A trips (11n, 23p)-1-0 against Piacenza on March 2, 2003-specifically losing each of the six most recent in the tournament.

Juventus FC secured a victory in their Serie A Week 2 match on Monday, August 26, 2024, held at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy. They triumphed over Hellas Verona. Juventus stands out as the sole team with a perfect record after two matchdays. They achieved their second consecutive win, dominating the game from the first half, despite Verona’s intense start. Vlahovic was the first to score, thanks to an assist from Yildiz, and the young Savona followed up with a header for his inaugural Serie A goal. In the second half, Vlahovic put the final nail in the coffin by scoring a penalty that Mbangula had won, dashing any remaining hopes for the Gialloblu.

After a solid 3-0 victory over Como, Juventus won their first two Serie A matches of the season for the first time since the 2019/20 season. Additionally, since their return to the top division in 2007/08, they have only achieved the feat of winning their first two Serie A games without conceding a goal once in 17 seasons, which was back in 2014/15.

The beginning

Dušan Vlahović got the scoring underway in the 28th minute.  Vlahović found the back of the net with a left-footed shot aimed at the bottom left corner. Kenan Yildiz provided the assist with a perfectly timed through ball.

Nicolò Savona made an incredible debut! He scored in the 39th minute with a well-placed header into the bottom left corner, thanks to a fantastic assist from Samuel Mbangula.

Juventus have won four of their last five league games against Hellas Verona (D1), keeping four clean sheets in the process, after failing to win any of their previous four games against the Scaligeri in Serie A (D2 L2), always conceding at least one goal (six conceded in the process).

Hellas Verona have remained unbeaten in eight of their last 10 home games against Juventus in Serie A (W3 D5); in this run, both teams have scored 16 goals at the Bentegodi. Hellas have won their first league match in two seasons in a row in Serie A for the second time, after the period between 1983/84 and 1984/85.
