Fiorentina claimed victory in their Serie A Week 9 match crushing Roma on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the Artemio Franchi Stadium in Florence, Italy.  Roma faced a significant defeat! After going down 3-1 in the first half, the Giallorossi couldn’t find their footing in the second half. The Viola quickly scored again, making it 4-1 with a goal from ex-player Edoardo Bove, followed by Kouame’s header that led to an own goal by Mats Hummels. To add to their woes, Roma finished the game with ten men after Marion Hermoso was shown a second yellow card in the 65th minute. In short, it was a match to erase from memory for Roma.  Conversely, Fiorentina supporters have much to cheer about the game.

Raffaele Palladino’s team win in three consecutive matches in the competition for the first time since last December.

Previously, Fiorentina has managed to secure only two wins in their last 12 encounters with Roma in Serie A (with 4 draws and 6 losses).

The beginning of the match

Fiorentina struck first in the 9th minute when Moise Kean found the back of the net, sending a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner past Roma’s goalkeeper, Mile Svilar. The setup came from Lucas Beltrán. It was a quick restart from Viola, with Beltrán feeding Kean, who then skillfully curled a left-footed shot into the far post from just outside the penalty area!

Penalty for Fiorentina

Referee Sozza awarded a penalty to Fiorentina. In the 17th minute, Lucas Beltrán successfully converted the penalty with a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner. The penalty was given after Zeki Çelik fouled Edoardo Bove inside the penalty area.

In the 39th minute, Roma closed the gap as Manu Koné found the net with a right-footed strike into the bottom right corner. The assist came from Evan Ndicka. What a fantastic goal from the newcomer! He picked up the ball in left midfield, outmaneuvered Colpani, and fired a powerful, accurate shot with his right foot into the far post. Roma is back in action!

More goals for Fiorentina to delight the fans

Fiorentina responded swiftly in the 41st minute. Moise Kean found the net with a right-footed shot from close range, sending the ball into the bottom right corner. Edoardo Bove set him up perfectly, sprinting down the left after Gosens made a move on Celik. Bove reached the byline and delivered a pass to the center, allowing Kean to slide it home!

Roma in trouble

Fiorentina has now secured a poker! In the 52nd minute, Edoardo Bove found the net with a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner, thanks to an assist from Yacine Adli. The former Giallorossi player skillfully maneuvered past Celik before finishing from close range!

What a disaster for Roma! In the 71st minute, Mats Hummels scored an own goal. A corner kick to the far post led to a header from Kouame, and Hummels’ awkward attempt ended up sidelining goalkeeper Svilar!

Roma have not won any of their last three away games (W2 D1) against Fiorentina in Serie A, after having recorded three wins in the previous four (D1); furthermore, the last time the Giallorossi kept a clean sheet away from home against the Viola in the league dates back to 19 April 2014 (1-0 with a goal from Radja Nainggolan), since then they have conceded at least
one goal in 10 consecutive away games.

The Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus ended with a draw in the Serie A Week 9 match on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the iconic Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy.  A total of eight goals, and it will definitely be remembered in history. Surely, Motta’s substitutions played a crucial role.  For instance, the introduction of Yildiz, who scored an incredible brace to help Juventus equalize. The first half concluded with Inter leading 3-2. The Nerazzurri extended their lead to 4-2 thanks to Dumfries and came close to scoring a fifth on multiple occasions with Dimarco, Thuram, and Dumfries again. In the end, Juventus fought back to secure a thrilling 4-4 draw, with both teams earning a point.

Inter has faced Juventus more than any other team in Serie A, suffering 87 defeats, which accounts for 13% of their total losses in the league. However, Juventus has only managed to secure two wins in their last six encounters with Inter, recording two draws and two losses.

The rivalry between Inter and Juventus features a total of 248 matches, with 182 of those occurring in the single-round Serie A since the 1929/30 season. Juventus leads the series with 87 wins, while Inter has secured 49 victories and there have been 46 draws. At home in Milan, the Nerazzurri have won 37 times against Juventus.

Detail:  Simone Inzaghi has won two Serie A games as Inter coach against Juventus; only five coaches in the Nerazzurri’s history have done better, none of them in the three-point-for-a-win era: Helenio Herrera (seven), Giovanni Trapattoni (four), Árpád Weisz (three), Aldo Olivieri (three) and Eugenio Bersellini (three). In the 15th minute, Inter took the lead thanks to a penalty converted by Piotr Zielinski, who struck the ball with his right foot into the upper center of the goal. The penalty was given after Danilo fouled Marcus Thuram in the box. Thuram cleverly anticipated Danilo’s move, resulting in the center-back making contact, and Referee Guida had no doubts about awarding the penalty.

Juventus equalizer

In the 20th minute, Dušan Vlahović brought Juventus level with a close-range left-footed shot right down the middle. Weston McKennie provided the assist, delivering a fantastic ball from Cabal that allowed McKennie to make a run. He volleyed it perfectly for Vlahović, who found the net from just a couple of steps away!

Juventus score…

Timothy Weah found the back of the net in the 26th minute with a right-footed shot. The assist came from Francisco Conceição, who made a clever dribble into the box before crossing to Weah, who scored effortlessly from close range. The current score is Inter 1, Juventus 2.

Another draw…

The Armenian star, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, expertly handles Thuram’s touch and, using his left foot, deceives Di Gregorio at the goal. The match is now level at 2-2.

Inter took the lead again…

In the 37th minute, Piotr Zielinski successfully converted another penalty with a right-footed strike. The penalty was awarded after Pierre Kalulu fouled Denzel Dumfries in the box. Zielinski skillfully placed a diagonal shot just inside the post, outsmarting goalkeeper Di Gregorio.

A poker for Inter

In the 53rd minute, Denzel Dumfries found the back of the net with a right-footed shot aimed at the bottom left corner after a corner was given away by Andrea Cambiaso. Following an Inter corner, Danilo managed to deflect it short, but the Dutchman controlled it perfectly and fired just past the post, leaving Di Greforio unable to make a save. The score now stands at Inter 4 – 2 Juventus.

In the 71st minute, Kenan Yildiz found the back of the net with a left-footed strike aimed at the bottom right corner. The assist was from Weston McKennie. Juventus launched a counterattack, with the number 10 bringing the ball to his left foot for a cross-field shot, goalkeeper couldn’t quite connect, and, voilaaaa… goal!

The final equalizer

Juventus managed to level the score at 4-4 thanks to a stunning brace from Yıldız in just over ten minutes. In the 82nd minute, Kenan Yıldız found the back of the net after receiving a cross from Conceicao. He unleashed a powerful shot that left goalkeeper Sommer with no chance.

Inter have won two of their last four Serie A games (D1 L1) played against Juventus in Milan: as many wins as in their previous 11 league games (D4 L5).

Juventus are the only team unbeaten (W4 D4) after the first eight games in a Serie A season for the first time since 2019/20; on the other hand, Inter have won five of their last seven league games (D1 L1), after failing to win in four of their previous five (D3 L1).

Inter have lost only one of their last 19 home games (W14 L4) in Serie A: 1-2, on 22 September, against Milan; Juventus, on the other hand, have won two of their last three away games (D1 L1), after failing to win in their previous eight (D5 L3). Monza and Venezia ended with a draw during the Serie A Week 9 match on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, Italy.  It was an electrifying first half, packed with four goals and Monza equalizing against Venezia twice. The second half, however, was a bit dull. Monza found themselves down to ten men after Warren Bondo was shown a red card in the 80th minute, but Venezia couldn’t make the most of it. Both teams ended up sharing the spoils with one point each. Venezia is struggling in 19th place with only 5 points, while Monza sits in 15th with 8 points.

In their last two encounters, specifically in Serie C 2014/15 and Serie B 2020/21, Monza claimed victory in the first leg, while Venezia triumphed in the return leg. Interestingly, all these wins occurred on the road.

Venezia got on the scoreboard first in the 14th minute when Mikael Ellertsson found the back of the net with a stunning left-footed shot into the top left corner, assisted by Gaetano Oristanio.

Venezia has triumphed in their last two away league matches against Monza, with a combined score of 6-2, spanning Serie C and Serie B. Additionally, Venezia has the unfortunate distinction of conceding the most goals in the first half hour of play this Serie A season, with seven goals—matching the total they allowed in the entire first half of the previous season.

Monza is currently the only team in Serie A that hasn’t scored from a dead ball situation, with all eight of their goals coming from open play. In the top five European leagues for the 2024/25 season, Real Sociedad, Toulouse, and Bochum also have all their goals scored from open play.

Dany Mota has been a key player for Monza, netting four of their eight goals, which accounts for 50% of their total.

The only player with a higher percentage of goals for his team in Serie A is Nikola Krstovic, who has scored two out of three attempts, giving him a 67% success rate. Additionally, Filip Stankovic made his debut against Atalanta 11 years and 224 days after his father Dejan last played in Serie A back in March 2013. The scoring began in the 21st minute with Noslin finding the net. Pedro added the second goal in the 86th minute, and Vecino sealed the victory with a header in the 94th minute, ending the match at 3-0.

In the upcoming round of the championship, Lazio will play away against Como, while Genoa will host Fiorentina at home.

Lazio opened the scoring in the 21st minute when Tijjani Noslin found the back of the net with a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner, assisted by Nuno Tavares.

In the 86th minute, Lazio extended their advantage to 2-0. After a low cross from Castellanos was deflected by Leali, the ball found its way to Pedro, who easily slotted it into an empty net.

In the dying moments of the game, specifically in the 94th minute, Matías Vecino sealed the deal with a powerful header into the high center of the goal. Nuno Tavares provided the assist with a well-placed cross after a corner given away by Milan Badelj.

Additionally, this is just the second instance in the past 60 years where the Biancocelesti have failed to secure a single clean sheet in their opening eight games of a Serie A season; the first occurrence was during the 2021/22 season, when they finally achieved a clean sheet in their 10th match.

Genoa is the team that has conceded the most goals (13) during the second halves of this Serie A; furthermore, the rossoblù is one of the three teams, together with Lecce and Roma, to have scored the fewest goals before the break (two each).

Boulaye Dia has scored two goals in the first three home games played with Lazio in Serie A; among foreign players, only Juan Sebastián Verón (three in 1999) has done better in his first four home appearances with the Biancocelesti in the competition in the three points for a win era (since 1994/95).

Andrea Pinamonti has scored three goals in this championship; only three Italian players have scored more goals in Genoa’s first nine Serie A games of the season in the three points for a win era (since 1994/95): Marco Borriello (five in 2007/08); Alessandro Matri (four in 2014/15) and Mattia Destro (six in 2021/22).
