✅   What happened in Round 10?

AC Milan faced a tough loss at home in San Siro Stadium.  Napoli triumphed over Milan, maintaining their lead at the top of the table. This marks Napoli’s first victory in a significant match and their sixth consecutive win in the league.  Napoli reached 25 points. For Milan, this was their third defeat in Serie A, breaking a two-match winning streak and putting them at risk of being surpassed by Torino, who will take on Roma on Thursday.

Inter is resolutely committed to maintaining their pursuit of the Scudetto. The objective is to challenge Napoli, who currently occupies the top position. Inter secured a victory against Empoli at the Castellani Stadium.  Inter got three crucial points that allow them to respond to Napoli while remaining four points adrift of the Neapolitans. The pivotal moment in the first half was the red card issued to Goglochidze, following a review for a serious foul on Thuram. In the second half, the Nerazzurri solidified their lead with Frattesi’s first brace in Serie A and Lautaro Martinez’s return to scoring. The Tuscans, reduced to ten men, struggled to match the intensity of Inzaghi’s squad, who celebrated their third consecutive away victory.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Napoli, 1st position with 22 points and a positive goal difference of +11
AC Milan, 8th position with 14 points and a positive goal difference of +7

AC Milan faced a tough loss at home in San Siro Stadium on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, during Serie A Week 10. Napoli triumphed over Milan, maintaining their lead at the top of the table. This marks Napoli’s first victory in a significant match and their sixth consecutive win in the league, bringing them to 25 points and putting them seven points ahead of second-placed Inter, who are set to face Empoli tomorrow. For Milan, this was their third defeat in Serie A, breaking a two-match winning streak and putting them at risk of being surpassed by Torino, who will take on Roma on Thursday.

In their recent matchups, Milan has triumphed in three of the last five Serie A games against Napoli (with one draw and one loss), equaling their total wins from the last 22 league encounters (three wins, eight draws, and eleven losses).

Napoli got off to a flying start, scoring just five minutes into the match. Romelu Lukaku found the back of the net with a precise left-footed shot aimed at the bottom right corner. The setup came from Frank Anguissa, who skillfully received the ball in a pocket of space and delivered a vertical pass to Lukaku. The Belgian forward managed to hold off Pavlovic’s challenge before slotting the ball past Maignan at the near post.

Napoli increased their advantage in the 43rd minute when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored with a powerful right-footed shot into the bottom right corner. Mathías Olivera provided the assist. It was a fantastic individual effort from number 77, who made a run from the left, cut back to the right, evading Emerson Royal and Fofana before unleashing a strong shot to the far post that Maignan couldn’t stop. The Azzurri double their lead.

Stats before the game

Milan have won only one of their last nine first-half matches against Napoli in Serie A (D2 L6): 3-1 on November 22, 2020 (Ibrahimovic scored twice and Hauge scored for the Rossoneri, Mertens for the Partenopei).

Among the teams that have played more than one Serie A game on Tuesday, Napoli have the highest goal average: 2.4 (31 goals in 13 matches); on the other hand, Milan have failed to score in their three most recent league games played on this day of the week, but have kept a clean sheet in three of their last four (the exception being a 0-4 win against Lazio on January 24, 2023).

Buy Serie A tickets

Milan have kept a clean sheet in three of their last five Serie A games (as many as in their previous 14) and could go back-to-back in the tournament for the first time since last March (against Lazio and Empoli).

AC Milan have won three consecutive home Serie A games without conceding a goal for the first time since May 2022 and have not done better in the league since a run of four between March and May 2014.

Napoli are unbeaten in their last three away games in Serie A, having won two of them (D1), as many wins as they had in their previous 13 away league games (W2 D5 L6).

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Bologna, 12th with 9 points and a negative goal difference of -2
Cagliari, 17th position with 8 points and a negative goal difference of -7

Bologna secured a victory in Serie A Week 10 by defeating Cagliari on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at the Unipol Domus in Cagliari, Italy.  Bologna reached 12 points, placing them in 10th position.  Cagliari faced their second consecutive loss and remain at 9 points. Bologna has one game to make up for since their match against AC Milan was delayed due to inclement weather.

A goal in each half is enough for Vincenzo Italiano’s Bologna to prevail over a good Cagliari that did not take advantage of the opportunities created. In the first half, Orsolini unlocked the match in the 35th minute, while in the second half it was Odgaard’s turn to score the goal for the final 0-2 with a powerful shot from distance in the 51st minute. After the goal of the double advantage, Davide Nicola used all the weapons in his arsenal to try to break down the Bologna defense that absorbed (not without suffering) the opponents’ charge with order. Cagliari had a sensational double chance in the 58th minute with Gaetano and Marin who found an insurmountable obstacle in Skorupski.

In their next Serie A fixture, Nicola’s squad will travel to the Stadio Olimpico in Rome to take on Lazio.

Bologna took the lead in the 35th minute when Riccardo Orsolini found the back of the net with a right-footed shot aimed at the bottom right corner. The assist came from Dan Ndoye. Nikola Moro won a tackle in midfield and quickly sent the ball to Ndoye, who cleverly spotted Castro’s run and delivered a precise pass. With a smart play from the Argentine, the ball reached Orsolini, who opted for a powerful right-footed strike to the near post, leaving goalkeeper Simone Scuffet unable to react!

Jens Odgaard found the back of the net with a left-footed strike aimed at the bottom left corner. Jhon Lucumí provided the assist, making a clever play from the left side. He sent a low ball back to the advancing Odgaard, who unleashed a strong first-time shot, scoring his second goal of the championship and beating Scuffet at his near post once more!

Stats before the game

The home side has been particularly strong, winning their last five home matches against Bologna in the league. In fact, Cagliari has only achieved more consecutive home wins against two teams in their Serie A history: Ascoli (six wins from 1980 to 2007) and Sampdoria (eight wins from 1970 to 1982).

After winning all of their first three Serie A matches played between Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday against Cagliari, Bologna have failed to find any success in the following four (1D, 3L). After the 2-2 draw in the last round against Genoa, Bologna have drawn six of their first eight Serie A games of the season for only the second time in their history, after 1989/90. Considering the first nine games of the season, they have never recorded seven draws in the top flight.

Bologna have not won any of their last seven Serie A matches played on Tuesday (D3 L4), without finding the back of the net in four of them; the Emilians had found success in all of their previous five matches played on this day of the week in the tournament.

Cagliari won their last home match in Serie A (3-2 vs Torino), after remaining winless in their previous seven (D4 L3); the Sardinians have not obtained two consecutive home wins in the competition since the period between October and November 2023, against Frosinone and Genoa in that case.

Bologna have scored exactly two goals in each of their last three away games in Serie A (W1 D2) and have not reached at least four consecutive away games in the competition with at least two goals scored since February-April 2004 (six in that case).

Mission accomplished! Napoli triumphed in their Serie A Week 9 match against Lecce on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Naples, Italy. This victory is crucial as it keeps Napoli firmly in first place in the league standings. With this win, they now have 22 points.  Lecce, on the other hand, remains in the relegation zone with just 5 points.

The Derby d’Italia between Inter and Juventus ended with a draw at the iconic Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.  A total of eight goals, and it will definitely be remembered in history. Motta’s substitutions played a crucial role, particularly the introduction of Yildiz, who scored an incredible brace to help Juventus equalize. The first half concluded with Inter leading 3-2. The Nerazzurri extended their lead to 4-2 thanks to Dumfries and came close to scoring a fifth on multiple occasions with Dimarco, Thuram, and Dumfries again. In the end, Juventus fought back to secure a thrilling 4-4 draw, with both teams earning a point.

Atalanta crushed Hellas Verona with an astonishing score 6-1.  What a fantastic way to honor Atalanta’s 117th birthday! The club founded on October 17th, and the celebration to commemorate this milestone today Saturday, October 26th, at the Gewiss Stadium. Happy Birthday, Atalanta!

The match between Bologna and Milan has been postponed due to inclement weather, with a new date yet to be decided. It was originally set to take place on Saturday, October 26, at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium. This decision was made following an emergency meeting of the Lega Calcio’s board of directors. They are currently exploring all possible options to reschedule the game amidst a packed calendar.

Udinese defeated Cagliari at the Bluenergy Stadium.  Historically, Udinese has now triumphed in 28 out of their 57 Serie A encounters with Cagliari, recording 17 draws and 12 losses. This makes Cagliari one of the teams Udinese has had the most success against in the league, alongside Atalanta and Lazio.

Torino beat Como at the Olimpico di Torino Stadium.  This victory marks a turning point for Torino.   After suffering three straight losses in Serie A against Lazio, Inter, and Cagliari, they were on the brink of a troubling streak.   This victory boosts the Granata to 14 points. Meanwhile, Como’s struggles continue, as they face their second loss in three matches.

Fiorentina claimed victory crushing Roma with a 5-1 at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.  Roma faced a significant defeat! After going down 3-1 in the first half, the Giallorossi couldn’t find their footing in the second half. The Viola quickly scored again, making it 4-1 with a goal from ex-player Edoardo Bove, followed by Kouame’s header that led to an own goal by Mats Hummels. To add to their woes, Roma finished the game with ten men after Marion Hermoso was shown a second yellow card in the 65th minute. In short, it was a match to erase from memory for Roma, while Fiorentina supporters have much to cheer about.

Parma and Empoli ended with a draw.   Parma has secured their third consecutive draw, climbed the standings but still fallen short of their second win in this championship. Their comeback was promising, especially in the second half, where they played with greater determination. They equalized in the 80th minute thanks to Charpentier, who found the net with an assist from Valeri. However, just three minutes later, Bonny missed a golden opportunity to put Parma ahead when he failed to convert a penalty. Bonny hit the crossbar instead.

Monza and Venezia ended with a 2-2 draw at the U-Power Stadium.  It was an electrifying first half, packed with four goals and Monza equalizing against Venezia twice. The second half, however, was a bit dull. Monza found themselves down to ten men after Warren Bondo was shown a red card in the 80th minute, but Venezia couldn’t make the most of it. Both teams ended up sharing the spoils with one point each. Venezia is struggling in 19th place with only 5 points, while Monza sits in 15th with 8 points.

However, just three minutes later, Bonny missed a golden opportunity to put Parma ahead when he failed to convert a penalty. Bonny hit the crossbar instead. As the match drew to a close, neither team could find the winning goal, resulting in a shared point for both.

In their last six encounters in Serie A, neither team has managed to replicate the same result twice in a row: Parma has secured two victories, while Empoli has claimed one, along with three draws, including their most recent face-off, which ended in a thrilling 3-3 tie on March 2, 2019.

The action…

Empoli gained the upper hand in the 35th minute when Woyo Coulibaly scored an own goal. The sequence was a result of excellent teamwork, with Colombo assisting Gyasi on a well-timed run into the box. Gyasi’s low cross for Fazzini was slightly touched by a teammate, leading to a crucial deflection off Coulibaly that found its way into the goal.

In a thrilling moment in the 80th minute, Parma equalized the match. Gabriel Charpentier scored with a right-footed shot from the center of the box, successfully getting past Empoli’s goalkeeper Devis Vásquez into the bottom right corner, with a helpful assist from Emanuele Valeri.

Parma missed a golden opportunity to secure the win in the 83rd minute when Ange-Yoan Bonny couldn’t convert a penalty, hitting the crossbar with his right foot. The penalty was awarded after Devis Vásquez committed a foul in the box. You can bet he’s regretting that moment!

Empoli, close to totaling 600 points in their history in Serie A (currently 598), have lost their last two league games after remaining unbeaten in the previous eight (W3, D5); the last time the Tuscans recorded more consecutive defeats in the competition was last April (four in that case).

Players Stats

Ange-Yoan Bonny has scored three goals so far in the current tournament; only two Parma players have scored more goals in their debut season in Serie A in the first nine games of the season for the Ducali in the competition: Alessandro Melli (five in 1990/91) and Hristo Stoichkov (four in 1995/96).

Emmanuel Gyasi, close to 150 appearances in Serie A (currently at 149), scored his only multiple goals in Serie A against Parma, on 27 February 2021; furthermore, in the current tournament he is the striker who has recovered the most possessions (32).
