✅   What happened in Round 11?

The race for the Scudetto is getting more exciting after Serie A’s Week 11!  Napoli is in the lead with 25 points, followed by Inter at 24 and Atalanta with 22 points.

What a surprise! Napoli experienced a shocking 0-3 defeat against Atalanta at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. Although this is a major setback for Napoli, they still sit at the top with 25 points. Atalanta’s impressive win, however, boosts their morale, bringing them to 22 points, just three behind Napoli. They are celebrating their fifth consecutive victory!   Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman was the star of the match, scoring a left-footed volley in the 10th minute and a right-footed shot from outside the box in the 31st minute. Mateo Retegui also got on the scoresheet with a goal in the 92nd minute. In the upcoming round, Napoli will take on Inter away, while Atalanta will play at home against Udinese.

Inter secured a crucial victory in Serie A Week 11 by defeating Venezia at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium. This win brought Inter’s points total to 24, placing them just one point behind Napoli, who leads with 25 points. Unfortunately for Venezia, their hopes were dashed when a goal was disallowed in the dramatic 98th minute. Argentine forward Lautaro Martinez shone for Inter, netting the only goal of the match in the 65th minute. Inzaghi’s squad faced a tense moment late in the game when Marin Sverko connected with a cross from Haps, only to have the goal ruled out by VAR due to a handball by the defender. It was a bitter disappointment for Venezia, who were eager to secure at least a draw.

Milan is celebrating a return to victory, and they did it on the road, a feat they’ve only achieved in the derby against Inter this season. This win is a significant boost for Fonseca’s players, especially after Reijnders scored right before halftime. Although they squandered a few chances in the second half to secure the match, they successfully navigated Monza’s attempts to score. The red and white team continues their momentum with a home win that has been absent since March 16 against Cagliari.

This match is steeped in emotion, reflecting the rich history between AC Milan and Monza. Former President Silvio Berlusconi had a fondness for both clubs. Currently, Monza is coached by Alessandro Nesta, a former defender for Milan. Additionally, Daniel, the son of legendary Milan captain Paolo Maldini, is now playing for Monza.

Juventus secured an away victory in their Serie A Week 11 match against Udinese at the Bluenergy Stadium.  With this win, Juventus now has 21 points, while Udinese’s situation remains unchanged. The match concluded at the Stadio Friuli in Udine, with Abisso signaling the end of a highly competitive game that saw Juventus emerge victorious. The first half was largely controlled by the visitors, who took the lead with an own goal from Okoye and a goal from Savona in the 19th and 37th minutes, respectively.  Next up, Runjaic and Motta’s teams will face Atalanta away and Torino at home for the Derby della Mole in the 12th matchday.

Bologna secured a victory at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium. After a seven-month wait, Bologna celebrated a much-needed win against Lecce. The decisive moment came in the 85th minute when Orsolini scored his third goal in a row. Lecce put up a solid defense and attempted to counterattack, but they never truly threatened Ravaglia. The crowd at Dall’Ara also welcomed back Lewis Ferguson, who made his return after 203 days due to injury and played a key role in the buildup to the goal. Lecce, now sitting in second-to-last place, faced another defeat and remains without an away goal. In their next match, the Salento team will take on Empoli at home.  Bologna has moved up to eighth in the standings, accumulating 15 points and having a game in hand.

In their next match, the Felsinei will take on Roma at the Olimpico, and on Tuesday, November 5, the Dall’Ara will welcome Monaco for a Champions League clash.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Como, 15th position with 9 points and a negative goal difference of -9
Empoli, 13th position with 11 points and a negative goal difference of -2

Empoli secured a victory in their Serie A Week 11 match against Como on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. This marks their third win of the Serie A Enilive 2024-25 season, allowing them to leapfrog Roma and rise to 11th place in the standings with 14 points. Additionally, they achieved their fifth clean sheet of the season. On the other hand, Como, managed by Fabregas, faced their sixth defeat, which further drags them into the relegation zone, especially after Genoa’s simultaneous 1-0 win over Parma.

In the 47th minute, Empoli took the lead as Pietro Pellegri scored with a well-placed right-footed shot into the bottom left corner. Gyasi initiated a throw, but Moreno intercepted with a header that landed at the feet of Pellegri. He skillfully evaded Barba and unleashed a powerful right-footed shot that Reina couldn’t stop at the far post. Dossena’s sliding tackle also made a significant impact with a vital deflection.

Stats before the game

Empoli has managed to remain unbeaten in five out of their six Serie A encounters with Como, recording two wins and three draws. Their sole victory against Como in this league dates back to November 22, 1987, when they triumphed 3-2 at Sinigaglia. In their three Serie A home matches against Como, Empoli has drawn each time, including their most recent clash in the league, which ended in a 0-0 stalemate on February 2, 2003. This season, Empoli has yet to find the back of the net in their five home games, and they could potentially make history by being the first team to go six home matches without conceding a goal in Serie A.

Buy Serie A tickets

Empoli has faced setbacks recently, losing three out of their last four league matches, with one draw included. This equals the number of defeats they had in their previous 14 Serie A games.  Empoli managed five wins, six draws, and three losses. On the other hand, Como has struggled as well, securing just one point over the last four matchdays in Serie A, with one draw and three losses. In October, this performance ranked among the three worst in the league, matching the one point earned by both Empoli and Genoa.

Como has managed to win just one of their last 11 away games in Serie A, with a 3-2 victory over Atalanta on September 24. The team has drawn once and lost nine times during this stretch, allowing goals in every match and totaling 25 goals conceded, averaging 2.3 per game. Additionally, Como has given up the most goals in the final 15 minutes of play this season, with eight goals conceded after the 76th minute. Only Inter has a higher percentage of goals conceded in this timeframe at 46%, compared to Empoli’s 44% (four out of nine). On the defensive side, Ardian Ismajli leads the league with 92 clearances, including 43 headers, while Mattia Viti has recorded the most tackles this season with 29.

Player Stats

Patrick Cutrone, a former standout player, had a notable season with Empoli in Serie A during 2021/22, where he made 28 appearances and netted three goals. He started the championship strong, scoring four times in the first six matches, but has since gone without a goal in the last four games, despite consistently playing at least 85 minutes in each match.

Andrea Belotti has found the back of the net four times against Empoli in Serie A, with all those goals coming in away matches, including his last hat-trick on May 1, 2022, while playing for Torino.

✅    Stats before the game.

Inter has enjoyed a strong run against Venezia, remaining unbeaten in their last five Serie A fixtures with four wins and one draw. Their last losses to the Venetians in the top flight occurred in 1999, when they faced two consecutive defeats. At home, Inter has only experienced one loss in 13 Serie A matches against Venezia, with ten wins and two draws to their name. That defeat was a 1-4 loss on April 25, 1943.

In their last six meetings, Inter has come out on top every time, scoring at least two goals in each match, totaling 17 goals and averaging 2.8 goals per game.

Inter are unbeaten in 34 of their last 35 games against newly promoted teams in Serie A (W28 D6), their only defeat in the period against these teams came against Monza on 15 April 2023 (0-1 at the Meazza).
After drawing 4-4 against Juventus, Inter could draw in two consecutive home Serie A games for the first time since September-October 2021 (against Atalanta and Juventus in that case).

Inter have conceded eight goals in their last three home league games, as many as in their previous 17 Serie A home games.
After coming from behind to win 3-2 against Udinese in their most recent match, Venezia could win two games in a row for only the second time since 2000 in Serie A, after November 2021 (against Roma and Bologna in that case).
Venezia drew their last away league game (2-2 against Monza) and have not drawn two away games in a row in Serie A since March 2000 (against Bologna and Piacenza in that case).

Player Stats

Lautaro Martínez has netted 12 goals in his last 12 encounters with newly promoted teams in Serie A. However, his most recent goal in a home league match was on February 28 against Atalanta, and since then, he has played nine home games without finding the back of the net in Serie A.

Alfred Duncan made his Serie A debut with Inter during the 2012/13 season, and he has started more matches against Inter than any other club, with 15 starts out of 17 total appearances in the top division.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Napoli, 1st position with 25 points and a positive goal difference of +13
Atalanta, 4th position with 19 points and a positive goal difference of +12

Wow! Napoli faced a surprising defeat in their Serie A Week 11 match at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, losing 0-3 to Atalanta. This is a significant setback for Napoli, but they still hold the top spot with 25 points. Meanwhile, Atalanta’s impressive win lifts their spirits, bringing them to 22 points, just three behind Napoli. The race for the Scudetto is heating up! Kudos to Atalanta for their fantastic performance!

Hats off to Atalanta for their stellar performance at the Maradona!   🇳🇬 Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman was the standout player, scoring a left-footed volley in the 10th minute and a right-footed shot from outside the box in the 31st minute.  🇦🇷 Mateo Retegui also got in on the action with a goal in the 92nd minute. In the next round, Napoli will be playing away against Inter, while Atalanta will be at home against Udinese.

Atalanta celebrates their fifth straight victory in the 2024-2025 Serie A Enilive: In Matchday 11, the Nerazzurri sport their yellow jerseys today.

The action…

Atalanta took the lead in the 10th minute when Ademola Lookman found the back of the net. He executed a left-footed shot from the left side of the six-yard box, sending the ball into the bottom left corner. The assist came from Charles De Ketelaere, who delivered a precise headed pass. After receiving the ball from De Ketelaere, Lookman, wearing the number 11 jersey, volleyed a left-footed shot from a challenging angle, and despite being close to the goal, it slipped past Meret.

It’s the Lookman moment! In the 31st minute, Lookman found the net once more with a powerful right-footed shot from outside the box, sending the ball into the bottom right corner. The assist came from Charles De Ketelaere during a swift counterattack.
Napoli 0 – 2 Atalanta

In a thrilling finish, Mateo Retegui secured the victory in the 92nd minute. He struck a right-footed shot from the heart of the box, finding the bottom right corner of the net. Raoul Bellanova provided the assist with a well-placed cross. The sequence kicked off with Samardzic, leading to Bellanova’s delivery, and Retegui’s volley was simply unstoppable for Meret.

Who else? Player of the game….

Atalanta players celebrating at the end of the game their victory against Napoli

Stats before the game

Historically, there has been only one draw in the last 18 encounters between Napoli and Atalanta in Serie A, which occurred on October 30, 2019, at the Maradona, resulting in a 2-2 scoreline. This record includes 10 victories for Napoli and seven for Atalanta. Notably, Atalanta triumphed in their most recent away match against Napoli in the league, winning 3-0 on March 30, and they have achieved consecutive away victories against Napoli only once in Serie A, back in 1997 under the management of Emiliano Mondonico.

From 2022 onwards, Napoli have won four of the five matches against Atalanta in Serie A, losing the most recent one; in the period, the Bergamo team have lost more matches only against Inter (1D, 5P).  Napoli is the only team that has found 100% success at home in this championship: 5/5; only twice in their history have they won each of their first six games in a Serie A season (in 1930/31 and 1987/88).

Atalanta have won five of their last eight away games in Serie A (D1 L2), as many wins as they had in their previous 18 away games in the competition (D4 L9).
Napoli have won five games in a row in Serie A for the first time since a run of eight between January and February 2023, with Luciano Spalletti on the bench; furthermore, only Barcelona (10) have won more games than Napoli (eight) in the current top five European leagues.

After five wins in the first five home games of this season, Antonio Conte can become the first coach in Napoli’s history to win each of his first six home games in Serie A on the bench for the Partenopei.

Player Stats

Romelu Lukaku stands out as one of only two players, alongside Ademola Lookman, who have achieved the feat of scoring at least four goals and providing a minimum of four assists in this Serie A season. The Napoli striker, who netted a goal in the most recent round of the championship, has already scored in both of his initial appearances this season, against Parma and Cagliari.

Mateo Retegui has netted four goals in his initial five away matches of this championship. In the context of the three-point system for victories, only two players from Atalanta have surpassed this achievement in their first six away games in Serie A: Germán Denis, who scored six goals in 2011, and Luis Muriel, who found the net five times in 2019.

In the upcoming match, Marten de Roon is set to make his 281st appearance in Serie A, thereby matching Stefano Angeleri’s record of 281 appearances, placing them both at the top among Atalanta players for the most games played in the tournament’s history, excluding play-offs.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
AC Milan, 8th position with 14 points and a positive goal difference of +5
Monza, 16th position with 8 points and a negative goal difference of -3

AC Milan won the Serie A Week 11 defeating Monza on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the U-Power Stadium in Monza, Italy. Milan is back to winning form, achieving victory on the road, a feat they’ve only accomplished in the derby against Inter this season. This win brings three crucial points for Fonseca’s squad. After Reijnders scored just before halftime, they had several opportunities in the second half to secure the game but managed to hold on without feeling the pressure from Monza. The red and white team continues their streak with a home win that has eluded them since March 16 against Cagliari.

In their previous four Serie A encounters, Monza and Milan have never ended in a draw: the Rossoneri have claimed three victories, while Monza triumphed in their latest clash on February 18, winning 4-2 at the U-Power Stadium.

The goal arrived…

AC Milan gained the upper hand in the 43rd minute when Tijjani Reijnders found the back of the net with a close-range header after a swift counterattack. It was a quick restart from Milan, with Morata directing the ball past Izzo from just a couple of steps out, and Reijnders was right there to finish it off with a simple tap-in into an open goal.

Stats before the game

In their last home fixture, Monza ended in a 1-1 stalemate with Inter, a team from Lombardy, on September 15. They have yet to go unbeaten in two consecutive home games against Lombardy teams in Serie A. Meanwhile, Milan emerged victorious in their latest encounter with a Lombardy side, defeating Inter 2-1 in the derby. They haven’t managed to secure two consecutive wins against local rivals since February 2023, when they won against both Monza and Atalanta.

Monza is struggling at home, having not secured a single victory in their last nine Serie A matches (D4, L5). This is the longest ongoing streak among teams in the top division, with only Bari, Benevento, Reggiana, Salernitana, and SPAL having longer waits for a home win in the league. On the other hand, Milan has managed to win just one of their first four away games this season (D1, L2), with that lone victory coming in a derby match against Inter (2-1). The last time the Rossoneri had such a slow start, with only one win in their first five away matches, was back in the 2018/19 season.

Milan has experienced at least three losses in their first nine matches of a Serie A season for the first time since the 2019/20 season, where they faced five defeats but managed to win their 10th game. Recently, they have lost two out of their last three league matches (with one win) against Fiorentina and Napoli, matching the number of defeats they had in their previous 11 games (which included four wins and five draws).

Player Stats

Dany Mota and Milan Djuric are Monza’s two top scorers at home in this championship, with two goals each – the Portuguese has therefore reached eight home goals in total with the Brianza team in Serie A, just two goals behind Andrea Colpani, top scorer at the U-Power Stadium.

Christian Pulisic has already scored three goals in four away games in this Serie A championship, while in the whole of last season he had scored four goals in 18 away games – considering the top five European leagues, only in 2019/20 did he find more than four goals away from home (seven in that season).
