Spezia, 16th position with 26 points and a negative goal difference of -20

Spezia needed to win the Serie A Week 27 game against on Sunday 27 February 2022 at the Alberto Picco Stadium in Spezia, Italy.  The victory for Roma helped them to climb towards the European zone.   Forward Tammy Abraham converted a penalty in the 99th minute to claim all 3 points.  With Mourinho disqualified in the stands, Roma in numerical superiority, they waste a lot, hit four poles, but in the end, they bring home the three points and hook Atalanta in fifth place (two games less) at 44 points. Spezia remain with 26 points.   In the next round, Roma-Atalanta and Juventus-Spezia.

Spezia playing with 10 players since the 45th minute. Referee Michele Fabbri gave a second yellow card to Kelvin Amian for the automatic  🟥 red card.

Spezia have won two of their last three games against teams that, at the start of the day, occupied the top eight positions in the Serie A (1P) standings: as many as in the previous 17.  La Spezia is the team with the longest open streak of consecutive games with goals underway in the current Serie A: nine matches, already a record for the Ligurian club in the top league.  Roma have drawn their last three league games, and since March 2015 they have not obtained any consecutive draws in Serie A (four). Only once, however, José Mourinho has drawn more consecutive career matches in the league (five in 2007 with Chelsea).  Only Empoli (16) have conceded more goals than Roma (13 in 7 matches) in 2022 in Serie A. More generally, only Genoa (-11) recorded a greater negative point difference than Roma (-9) compared to the same number of games played in the last Serie A season.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Hellas Verona, 9th position with 37 points and a positive goal difference of +7
Venezia, 18th position with 22 points and a negative goal difference of -21

Hellas Verona won the Derby del Veneto in grand style the Serie A Week 27 game defeating Venezia at the Marc’Antonio Bentegodi Stadium in Verona, Italy.  The hero is Argentinean forward Giovanni Simeone “the Cholito” who returns to scoring after two and a half months and does it great with a hat-trick!  The last time Simeone scored was last December 12 when he put his team ahead against Atalanta.

Simeone scoring now a total of 15 goals this season (his A record), becoming the Argentine footballer who has scored the most goals in the five major European leagues. Hellas reaching 40 points in 27 games, since the 1994/1995 season only once (in 2013/2014) had they done better in Serie A at this point in the championship. For Venezia, the negative streak continues, with only 1 success in the last 13 games.

Venezia have won only three away matches in this league (3D, 6L): in their history in Serie A, only in 1942/43 have they achieved more successes (four) away from home in a single season.

Hellas Verona opened the score in the 54th minute. Forward Giovanni Simeone defeated Venezia goalkeeper Sergio Romero with a right-footed shot to the center.

Rocking! Giovanni Simeone just having a great time scoring again in the 63rd time, this time with a left-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Marco Faraoni.

Venezia shortened the distance in the 81st minute. It is David Okereke to defeat Hellas Verona goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipò with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. The assist is by Dennis Johnsen.

The party has a name: “Giovanni Simeone!” Yes, Simeone scoring a hat-trick in the 88th minute with a right-footed shot to the top right corner. The assist is by Kevin Lasagna.

Stats before the game.  Verona are unbeaten in the previous five (4W, 1N) of Serie A against Venice: only against Catania, the yellow and blue have played more matches (six) in the tournament without ever losing. Verona won both home matches against Venezia in Serie A with a score of 1-0: in December 1999 (goal by Adailton) and in January 2002 (goal by Massimo Oddo). The host team has remained unbeaten in five of the last six Venetian derbies (3W, 2D) in Serie A; however, the only defeat came precisely in the first leg match between Venice and Verona, at Penzo – a match won 4-3 by the Gialloblù, after falling behind by three goals. Only Napoli (15) and Milan (14) have earned more points than Verona (13: 4W, 1D, 2L) in 2022 in Serie A; on the opposite front, only Bologna and Empoli (both 4) have obtained fewer points than Venice (5: 1W, 2D, 3L) in the new calendar year in the league.  Verona is both the team that has scored the most goals (15 in 7 matches) in 2022 in Serie A, and the one that has played the most balls (223) in the opposing area in the new calendar year.

👉Lineup Hellas Verona (3-4-2-1): Montipò; Retsos, Coppola, Sutalo; Faraoni, Tameze, Ilic, Lazovic; Barak, Caprari; Simeone

👉Lineup Venezia (4-3-2-1): Romero; Haps, Ceccaroni, Caldara; Cuisance, Ampadu, Busio, Crnigoj; Okereke, Aramu; Henry

Stats before the game.   Perfect balance in the last nine confrontations between Turin and Cagliari at the home of the grenades in Serie A: three wins on each side and three draws. The Sardinians, however, have won the last of these challenges and only in 2012 have they won two away wins in a row against the Piedmontese in the tournament.
Torino have not won any of the last four league games (2D, 2L): with Ivan Juric at the helm, the granata have never recorded five matches in a row without success in Serie A.
Cagliari scored 12 points (3W, 3N, 1P) in the seven Serie A matches of 2022: two more than in the entire first part of the season (10 in 19 matches). Since last January, in fact, only Napoli (15), Milan (14), Juventus and Verona (both 13) have earned more points than the Sardinians (12) in the top flight.

Serie A Standing BEFORE the game:
Fiorentina, 7th position with 42 points and a positive goal difference of +10
Sassuolo, 11th position with 33 points and a negative goal difference of -1

Sassuolo win the Serie A Week 27 game defeating Fiorentina on Saturday 26 February 2022 at the Mapei Stadium in Sassuolo, Italy.   A superb victory for Sassuolo grabbing the winning goal in the 94th minute.  Sassuolo have lost only one of their last eight Serie A matches against Fiorentina (1-2 in October 2019) – for the neroverdi four wins and three draws complete the set.

Sassuolo opened the score in the 19th minute. Hamed Traorè defeated Fiorentina goalkeeper Bartlomiej Dragowski with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner.

🟨 In the 68th minute,  Referee Alessandro Prontera gave a yellow card to Fiorentina Coach Vincenzo Italiano for too many protests.

Fiorentina down to 10 players since the 79th minute. Giacomo Bonaventura got a red card following a handball then shown a second yellow for protesting.

Fiorentina equalized in the 89th minute for the 1-1. It is Arthur Cabral to defeat Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli from very close range with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Riccardo Saponara.

What a thriller! Gregoire Defrel scored the winning goal in the 94th minute from very close range with a headed shot to the bottom left corner. Assisted by Domenico Berardi.

Stats before the game.  After the 2-2 in the first leg, Sassuolo and Fiorentina could draw two consecutive matches for the first time in the top flight – more generally they do not repeat the same result for two straight matches in the competition since 2016 (two Viola wins in that ‘occasion). With a 2-0 win over Inter Milan in the last round of the championship, Sassuolo interrupted a streak of 19 games without keeping a clean sheet in Serie A – the neroverdi have not recorded two clean sheets in a row in the competition since December 2020 (v Roma and Benevento).  Sassuolo have not won in four Serie A home games (2N, 2P): the green-and-blacks have not reached five straight matches at the Mapei Stadium without success in the competition since December 2018 (seven on that occasion).  Fiorentina have scored 42 points in this championship, already two more than those obtained at the end of last Serie A (40) – the Viola are also only three goals away (currently 44 goals) from equaling the scoring tally recorded in the Serie A whole Serie A 2020/21 (47).

👉 Lineup Sassuolo (4-2-3-1): Consigli; Müldur, Chiriches, G. Ferrari, Kyriakopoulos; Frattesi, M. Lopez; D. Berardi, Raspadori, Traore; Scamacca.
