Genoa promoted from the Serie B made a sour debut in the Serie A Week 1 losing the game against Fiorentina on Saturday 19 August 2023 at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.  Serie A debut for Coach Alberto Gilardino who replaced Blessin.   A nightmare for the Marassi public who embrace Serie A again after only one season of purgatory in the cadetteria. Fiorentina, on the other hand, starting the championship on the right foot.

Surely, it is a good first for Fiorentina. Very high quality first half from the Italian team who after eleven minutes are already two goals ahead thanks to Biraghi’s prowess and Bonaventura’s winning tap. Nico Gonzalez headed the 3-0, in the second half a wonderful assist from Bonaventura gave Mandragora the poker ball. Genoa tries to get back into the game with the goal scored by Biraschi, but the result will not change until the triple whistle
A more aggressive recovery by Genoa wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit in the first half, a bitter return to Serie A for Gilardino’s eleven

Fiorentina have not won on their Serie A debut in 1997 when they played it away; in the last seven occasions they have played their first away away game in the competition they have picked up just two points.

Stats before the game: Genoa have won only 18% of their Serie A matches played against Fiorentina (W18, D38, L46); among the teams faced at least eight times in the top flight, Viola is the one against which the Ligurians have the lowest percentage of successes.
Genoa lost their last Serie A home game against Fiorentina and have not suffered two home defeats in a row against the Viola since the period between November 2012 and September 2013. In the last seven seasonal debuts in Serie A, Genoa have never repeated the same result twice in a row (W3, D2, L2); defeat against Inter in the most recent match for the Ligurians, on 21 August 2021. Genoa haven’t drawn in their first home match in Serie A since September 2011 (2-2 against Atalanta); since then for the Ligurians four wins and one defeat in five home season debuts. Fiorentina haven’t drawn in their Serie A season debut since 2010 (1-1 vs Napoli); since then the Viola have won seven and suffered five defeats in the following 12 championships.

Inter started the new season with the right foot. Inter win the Serie A Week 1 game against Monza on Saturday 19 August 2023 at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan, Italy. The protagonist of the match without a doubt is Argentinean forward Lautaro Martinez, author of the two goals. A goal in each half for the Nerazzurri. The asisstmen were Dumfries and Arnautovic.

Six players made their debuts with Inter: Sommer, Thuram, Carlos Augusto, Cuadrado, Frattesi, Bisseck, and Arnautovic return to the pitch for the Nerazzurri for the first time since Inter vs. Atalanta in 2010, 4,865 days ago.

In the next round of the championship, Inter will play the away game against Cagliari while Monza will host Empoli.

Inter opened the score inthe 8th minute.  Forward Lautaro Martínez defeated Monza goalkeeper with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Denzel Dumfries.

Definitely, Lautaro sending positive messages to the fans. Lautaro scored a brace in the 76th minute from very close range with a right footed shot to the center. The assist is by Marko Arnautovic.

👉 Stats before the game: Last season Monza were one of only two teams, together with Juventus, against which Inter failed to win a single match in Serie A: 2-2 draw in the first leg at the U-Power Stadium, the Palladino’s men for 1-0 in the second leg at the Meazza (goal from Caldirola).  In the last six Lombard derbies in the first Serie A match of the season, the home team has remained unbeaten: four home wins and two draws in the period.  Inter have always won their last four matches on the first day of Serie A, but they haven’t recorded a longer streak of successes in the first round since the period between 1993 and 1997 (five in that case).  Inter have remained unbeaten in the last 10 championships in their first home game of the season; (8V, 2N); the last defeat dates back to 2012 with Andrea Stramaccioni on the bench (1-3 against Roma).  In the last three seasons between Serie A and Serie B, Monza have never won in their season opener in the league: 0-0 in 2020/21 vs SPAL, 0-0 vs Reggina in 2021/22 and 1-2 vs Turin in 2022 /23.

Frosinone failed to make a decent debut after their promotion from the Serie B. Napoli, current Italy’s Champions, crushed Frosinone claiming the Serie A Week 1 victory on Saturday 19 August 2023 at the Benito Stirpe Stadium in Frosinone, Italy. Napoli won from a comeback on a good Frosinone, the final 1-3 with a brace from Victor Osimhen on two assists from Di Lorenzo. Frosinone had found the momentary advantage thanks to the penalty scored by Harroui for Cajuste’s foul on Baez. Finally, Napoli that does not break down, draws with Matteo Politano and takes the lead with Osimhen.

Frosinone scored the first goal of the Serie A 2023-2024 season.  In the 7th minute, Abdou Harroui converts a penalty with a right-footed shot defeating Napoli goalkeeper Meret in the bottom right corner.  The penalty is conceded by Jens Cajuste after a foul on Jaime Báez in the penalty area.

Napoli equalized in the 24th minute, Matteo Politano defeated Frosinone goalkeeper Stefano Turati with a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner.

Napoli rocking and scoring again! Osimhen delighted the fans with a brace in the 79th minute defeating goalkeeper Turati with a right-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The assist is by Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

👉  Stats before the game: Among the opponents faced more than twice in Serie A, Napoli is one of the four – with Turin, Rome and Inter – against which Frosinone has always lost (4/4); moreover, the Neapolitan team is – among these – the one that has scored the most goals against the Ciociari in the top division (15).   After a run of three consecutive wins, Napoli lost their last Serie A match against a newly promoted team (0-2 vs Monza); the Neapolitans have not suffered two defeats in a row against teams from Serie B since 2015 (against Palermo and Empoli).  Frosinone have lost in both of their two Serie A season debuts: 1-2 at home against Torino on 23 August 2015 and 0-4 away against Atalanta on 20 August 2018.  Napoli are unbeaten in their Serie A season opener against newly promoted sides (W13, D4): the last of these matches was a 2-0 win against Venezia in August 2021.

Hellas Verona beat Empoli and win the Serie A Week 1 game on Saturday 19 August 2023 at the Carlo Castellani Stadium in Empoli, Italy. One goal was enough to conquer the victory. The defeat is a bad feeling for Empoli fans who were expecting a home victory to start the new season. Coach Marco Baroni wins with substitutions. In the second half, Verona grow while the Tuscans drop, Bonazzoli as soon as he enters wets his debut with a three-point goal, quick to take advantage of a serious indecision by Caprile on a corner play. Djuric had his double canceled for offside, Shpendi nearly scored the Euro goal from distance but Montipo was not surprised.

Let the party starts! Congratulations to Cagliari promoted to the Serie A 2023-24 Season on Sunday 11 June 2023. Cagliari earned their promotion after their playoff victory. Leonardo Pavoletti scored in stoppage time to secure their return to Serie A with a 1-0 win at Bari in their promotion playoff second leg. The aggregate result is a 2-1 victory. Coach Claudio Ranieri was delighted to see Cagliari back into the top flight after a one-year absence. Cagliari will join Frosinone and Genoa also promoted in Serie A for the 2023-24 season.
