What a stunning result!  Lazio flopped and lost  the Serie A Week 1 game against Lecce on Sunday 20 August 2023 at the Via Del Mare Stadium in Lecce, Italy. Previously, Lazio have won their last four matches on their league debut, already a record streak for the Biancocelesti in their first Serie A match of the season.

For the first time, Lecce won their season debut in Serie A, before today the Apulians had obtained six draws and 11 defeats in this league match.

Lazio started the season with a goal in the 26th minute. Forward Ciro Immobile defeated Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone with a right-footed shot to the center. The assist is by Luis Alberto.  This is an important goal because Ciro Immobile has reached 200 goals in the big five European leagues. Furthermore, this was Immobile’s 100th away goal across the big five European leagues.

👉 Stats before the game: Lecce are one of only two teams (the other is Turin) against which Lazio have not won a single league game last season: Salento won 2-1 in the first leg at the Via del Mare, drew 2- 2 upon return to the Olimpico. Lecce have remained unbeaten in their last three matches against Lazio in Serie A (W2 D1), the Salento have never recorded a longer unbeaten streak against the Biancocelesti in the tournament. Lecce have won their last two matches at the Via Del Mare against Lazio in the league (both 2-1), the last opponent against whom the Salento achieved three home wins in a row in Serie A was Brescia (between 2004 and 2020). Among the teams that have not achieved even one success in their debut match in Serie A, Lecce is the one that has played the most (D6, L11). Lazio is the team that has drawn the most times in their debut match in Serie A: 29 Xs for the Biancocelesti, but only one in the last 11 championships (W8, L2).

👉 Lineup LECCE (4-3-3): Falcone; Gendrey, Baschirotto, Pongracic, Dorgu; Rafia, Ramadani, Gonzalez; Alqmqvist, Strefezza, Banda.

👉 Lineup LAZIO (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Patric, Romagnoli, Marusic; Kamada, Cataldi, Luis Alberto; Felipe Anderson, Immobile, Zaccagni.
